The first sign of a #blockeddrain is your kitchen or bathroom drains will start to run slowly. And then you see the #drain overflowing out in your backyard. But that’s a good sign because if it’s not, it’ll be overflowing inside your house.

I have an old sewer line here in Sydney with terracotta pipes....used the mop method several years ago and it worked beautifully....but had another two episodes where I had to get the plumber out at $180 a go.So last week the sewer backed up big time but my plumber is not taking jobs because of Covid! So I had no option but to use the mop method and tried something a bit different with this old style sewer....The pit was full of sewage so I got a chair..sat down and had the mop at a 45 angle and wedged the mop head in the sewer pipe and pumped several times...I tried to pull the mop out but it was stuck hard with suction...but eased it out and wooshka my long blocked sewer just cleared...hosed it down..poured some bleach down the pipe...good as new!!!! Great tips, fixed my blocked drain. Only thing I would add is don't plug your sinks etc. I did and we had some blow back around the dishwasher. I guess if the sink was not plugged it would have just moved up to the sink and back down again once the blockage is cleared. Lucky this pipe was just for the kitchen. Cheers.

Awesome video... found my drain was blocked yesterday, down to Bunnings at 7am this morning, drilled and screwed the mop, into the drain and not long after it's all cleared and running happily, a few days of drain cleaner ahead just to be sure but definitely a great result... thanks :-)

I had a blocked kitchen drain outside. I bailed it out and fished out the stuff lodged down there. It included a dead bird and one of my long screwdrivers (thanks son). With those gone there was still a lot of thick grey stinking sludge, but a drain plunger disc on rods shifted it.

I didnt use a mop because I didnt have one so I got the top off then pulled out anothe plastic thing and got a long , large metal spoon (I couldnt reach so far down) and got all the crap out...then ran water from my tap tp flush it through and it worked! I improvised a bit but ot worked, thankyou!

Mate, my basin in the bathroom and my launchdry sink was overflow everytimes we try to use it for a couple of weeks already. I can't even brush the teeth as water won't go away. it got worse yesterday, I bought some powder to put them in these as try to fix it but the probem won't go away, lucky i came across this video so i head down to Bunning yesterday and bought the mop for $20 and did what the video taught me and i find my problem go away but i have to do it twice. The first time i only move my mop up and down a few times then i turn water on for my basin and find out it's only improve a little bit and the water still not going anywhere, i lost my hope but then i decide to try a second time which i move the mop up and down longer than before approx 10 min then it works perfectly. I would say it depends on how bad is your blockages that you may need to increase your times to move the mop up and down longer than mine. also if the mop does not fix in the hole you need to trim the outside skirt to fit in the pipe hole. My Miss said give a thump up for you guys to say thank you so i do that. i also share your video to my friends and family. Thank you again

My overflow gully is blocked and it seems that the blockage is far down the pipe because the laundry sink overflows too which is in the front on the house and the ORG is in the backyard. Should I try this method or use one of those snakes from bunnings?

trust the aussie guys to share some knowledge :) thanks Bud Qld but if its a T underground ,one way to the street the other to a downpipe, why wont it go the easiest way to raise the level in the downpipe ?this is just straight storm water no P traps or S bends

What can you do if the mop gets stuck in the pipe… the head is still attached to the handle, but I cannot pull it out? Is it airlocked?
PS! We’re now keeping that mop in the shed as our “plunger” mop . woohoo.
Mate, I can’t say how much I need to thank you for this video. I tried everything from draining to pulling apart the S trap under sink. Then I learnt about over flow relief valve and found mine exactly like this. Went to Bunnings and got a mop head for 10 bucks. 10 minutes problem solved!! And I had the plumber en route. Cancelled and probably saved $500

Hi Ben....I just want to thank you for sharing, I'm in the USA, but have been trying to fix this situation. My kitchen drain is coming into my shower, I tried liquid drain product, but its still blocked a slow drain. So tomorrow I will try your advice, but your kindness, great smile, helped my distress. I can't thank you enough, tried everything for 2 weeks to clear the drain outside my kitchen, from baking soda and vinegar to Easy-Off Draino turbo gel and nothing worked. Was about to call a plumber in tomorrow and found your video on UA-cam. Didn't have a mop so I used my Black n Decker cobweb brush and it worked perfectly, drain cleared in 2 minutes. I feel like a professional. Wish I saw this weeks ago- I’ve been struggling for weeks with a blocked drain!! Our ORG drain was overflowing today. Came across this video. Went to Bunnings and bought cheap Sabco mop. It worked perfectly.

Contemplated spending £90 to unblock a drain. It took the length of this video plus 3 minutes screwing a nail into a mop to do the job for free. Many thanks to you sir❤

I just did this with the mop and it worked ! Tried the baking soda / Hot water / baking Soda / Vinegar suggestion first. It may have broken down some of the scum, tho not sure. Had to screw my mop head onto the handle first then plunged it up and down the drain. Really felt the suction, then the gurgle as the water drained away. Cheers boys. Saved me a call to the plumber.
