Great video, very professional job done and great communication with the customer. Though once the blockage was cleared and you had the lying dirty water my thought would’ve been to use a yard broom to get rid of the worst of it then do a gentle hosing down and cleaning so using far less water and not getting it right up the wall.
Most every plate you wash has minute traces of grease/fat on them, and it goes down the drain when you wash them. Over time it builds up. Most people do not pour it down the sink, they simply wash a dirty plate, and a more micro grams of fat goes down the drain. Make a sandwich, wash the butter off the knife - it’s fats.
Great video I’ve just my hand into my kitchen gulley and it comes with a fitting that overflows the kitchen sink dirty water into the downpipe . But over time the overflow fitment blocks up with fat.
I've got a 5ltr metal can in the kitchen with a funnel in it, any fat or grease residue from cooking gets poured into it. I learnt my lesson years ago blocking up the kitchen waste pipe. Now once a week I let the hot tap run for 5 minutes to clean out any fat that does get down there from washing pots & pans.
Nice job done by a very pleasant drain man! Had to get Dynorod out a few months ago for a similar drain blockage (another helpful and nice guy) but it's happened twice since, loo paper etc backing up through the gully. Fortunately I've managed to clear it myself pushing a stiff hosepipe down there plus buckets of water. I'm sure I'll have to do it again but it's important to catch it before a big build-up.
Or save the container it came in and then empty the used fat into that container when cold and make sure it sealed, bag it up and put it into your outside general bin for refuge collection.
I've recently moved into a wheelchair adapted property and the drains been dreadful since moving in,the neighbours tell us that the previous tenant used to tip a bucket of grease down the drain everyday! No wonder it's blocked!!! 😱I learnt from my dad that you keep your old coffee jars etc to fill up with fat then you put the lid back on and throw it away when full, anyhoo,we've got to get something done about it,we've seen the karcher pressure washer drain unblocking kit so was thinking about getting 1 of those and see if my hubby can do the job without us having to call the landlord lol has anyone ever used this kit? If so is it any good? Great informative video, what a great guy! Does he want to pop down to Walsall by brum and tackle this monster of a job 😉 I'll give him as much water as he wants and I'll even make him a brew with bickies too
Yes,luckily the actual blockage was close to the top so my carer put a bin bag over his hand and arm and scooped as much as he could out and thankfully they're flowing through ok although for how long I'm not sure but for the last few months they've been ok,I contacted my landlords repair company and explained and they said if fat is inside the drains that they'll charge ME for it even though I hadn't caused it personally. Are you struggling with a blocked drain too
@@cetamillington wow that situation stinks! But I’m sure your drains are flowing fine since you haven’t had issues in the past few weeks, just don’t let too much fat/ food particles flow down! I’m a dishwasher in a fairly busy retirement home, and I had issues with my drain in my work area for the past three or four months. Bottle after bottle of chemical drain cleaner plus me using a plunger didn’t make a difference at all. It took a ton of me bothering the bosses to finally get them to pay a plumber to come check the situation out. And well within ten minutes of him running his “snake” tool through the drain, he pulled out a disposable plastic bag out of there, which was surprising since there are several drain covers that prevent large items from flowing down. Safe to say my drain is fine for now and now I’m a little bit less stressed at work :)
You're a nice man! I'm going to buy some of those rods and see if I can fix my own drain, I like to do things myself if I can. It's the drain from the kitchen sink but the washing machine also drains into it, and I eat a lot of fat as I'm on the Ketogenic diet which is high fat.
I managed to clear my drain today after 2 failed attempts with drain unblocker. I ended up cutting off slices of White clay-like stuff lining the drain. Assume it was fat

You guys have such different plumbing systems than we do in the us. Australia as well from what I see from Ollie. I guess in Britain in your case many houses and buildings were built before indoor plumbing and had to add it later?
My mother used to get most of the fat off cooking trays with newspaper and bin it. My friends mum always got the family to wipe their plates clean with bread.
When you were cleaning up at the end it looks like there was water in the drain. Is it meant to have water or is it suppose to be completely drained out dry after you cleared the blockage?
Why do people still pour oil/fat/grease down the sink? I put oils in old milk bottles when cooled for when I go to the council site. The fat/grease us allowed to cool in a tub lined with old newspapers then once solidified it goes in the household waste bin as per council guidance.
Once cooled I just throw it away. However, If you are my father you believe toliets are magically on a different sewer system and is designed to handle it.
The oil will turn into a solid, and the rest of the water will be disinfectant, then filters will make it clean enough to take showers and wash the car :) Same goes for sewage, the solids fall to the bottom and float, and the water is treated. I would never drink it or recommend anyone to drink tap water 🤢

Does the fat stay emulsified after you jet it, or does it reform as solids later on in the mains?
The pipes get larger and larger so those clumps shouldn't be a bother further down the system.
When it's backed up like this there's typically enough water to flow through to flush it on through
Question,: what if you just dropped a heating element into the drain, put in some detergent, then boiled the backed up water?
Regarding running out of water, can you not refill from a fire hydrant?
