Two words that should put all of this to rest. Carey Price (& boy did he Carry A Price - Pun Intended). They're still paying him for not playing in the last few years or The Contract only recently ended. If you want another, Rick DiPietro, the one & only Goalie The Islanders couldn't do without, but, had to after his injury/retirement. The Goalie, getting bombarded, is The #1! Dangerous Position (Garth Snow, after he was hurt by being fallen upon with his legs behind him). The list can go on & on. Let me know what you think

I like how you leave out when Hill won the cup higher over the cap than Tampa. Matt Murray - Prime Crosby. Neimi/Crawford - Prime Toews/Kane. Kuemper - Mackinnon/Makar notice the real trend first Ballot HOF number 1 centers.

The problem is, that, ever since I began watching Hockey, in 1970, with certain few drought years, The Rangers have had all of these Goalies/Tandems to present. First, Giacomin & Villemeur Tandem, then JD (John Davidson) & on & on to John Van Bysbrook & Mike Richter to Henrik Lundqvist & Company (Talbot, Raanta, Et. Al.) & Igor Shesterkin. They've had Goalie Crutches since The 1970s. Therefore, how do you, even if you want to, not sign & depend on Igor Shesterkin, is GM Chris Drury's Issue. Let me know what you think

I’m more on the side of keeping igor. You have some good points that sound great if it works out perfectly but we’re talking about the rangers, i don’t think i have the trust in this organization to go through w a move like this. Moving on from igor is a whole lot of unknowns. We know even if igor has just a decent season, he’s always been elite in the postseason. Ullmark hasn’t proven anything in the postseason and he was on a team that won 65 games. You really need the stars to align to move on from a guy like igor when you already have the best player at the position. Land a combination of like rantanen/chychrun and it’ll be easier to deal w, players of that caliber could potentially get you over the top. It’s a very risky decision.

You said it yourself, "we are talking about the Rangers here". I don't trust the organization in hamstringing itself with a long term albatross contract and being able to surround Igor with the components to be able to win a cup. Thats the danger here. Another 10 years of mediocrity but hey we got the best goalie in the NHL.

While I wasn't a fan of them paying King Henrik Lundqvist $8.5M/yr, I can see that more than paying Igor Shesterkin $12M/yr, because, at least, we had so many great years of the former. Igor Shesterkin hasn't had all of those great years that The King Had. Therefore, while I didn't like either, I would say The King's Contract was In Essence, The Lesser Of Two Evils. Peter Mrazek was The Savior of The Detroit Red Wings & he is The Chicago Blackhawks respectable Goalie, now & not what he once was. Goalies, other than Chicago Black Hawks, Tony O Esposito & The other Premier Goalies are the Exceptions, not the rule. More Goalies are mediocre than they are Elite. We don't even know if Illya Sorokin is done or not, as Islanders' Goalie. Let me know what you think. PS. This is how you get A Jack Campbell not even an NHL Goalie.

@@mariovaccarella6854 in your origional comment you say Igor has 1 Vezina and your looking at things objectively. You dont want to say Igor has been a better playoff performer than Panarin, just like Hank/Nash that had a 700k difference in salary. Because if Igor is more valuable in the playoffs when it matters, then why shouldnt Igor take a contract that pays him more than Panarin signed 6 years ago (counting this year) with 11m more in cap space. Instead the dont pay a goalie camp, uses teams that a team failed to utilize 87% of the cap around a first ballot hall of fame goalie as the point. While arguing that if they had 2mil more in cap space that and a downgrade in the one true playoff performer on the roster, that they would use that 2mil better and have gotten over the hump.

I think you’re way off on this one. Putting Markstrom and Ullmark in the same sentence as Igor is disrespectful. He’s better than Hellybuck too. There is nothing promising in the pipeline. If you could get a top-quality player and prospects/draft picks for Igor, it would probably be the better route to go. Not the popular one but it would be prudent. The Rangers could easily get a decent young goalie for half the price they would have to pay Igor. Remember we had Cam Talbot when they gave Hank that ridiculous contract. I was one of the few that loved Hank but would have let him walk and went with Talbot in the net. They would have been in a much better position to surround Talbot with some talent since he was making peanuts at the time and playing like a #1 starter. No guarantee that they win a cup, but the Hank contract was an albatross contract that really hamstrung the team and prevented the team from getting some quality players to make a push for a championship.
