The problem is, that, ever since I began watching Hockey, in 1970, with certain few drought years, The Rangers have had all of these Goalies/Tandems to present. First, Giacomin & Villemeur Tandem, then JD (John Davidson) & on & on to John Van Bysbrook & Mike Richter to Henrik Lundqvist & Company (Talbot, Raanta, Et. Al.) & Igor Shesterkin. They've had Goalie Crutches since The 1970s. Therefore, how do you, even if you want to, not sign & depend on Igor Shesterkin, is GM Chris Drury's Issue. Let me know what you think
I’m more on the side of keeping igor. You have some good points that sound great if it works out perfectly but we’re talking about the rangers, i don’t think i have the trust in this organization to go through w a move like this. Moving on from igor is a whole lot of unknowns. We know even if igor has just a decent season, he’s always been elite in the postseason. Ullmark hasn’t proven anything in the postseason and he was on a team that won 65 games. You really need the stars to align to move on from a guy like igor when you already have the best player at the position. Land a combination of like rantanen/chychrun and it’ll be easier to deal w, players of that caliber could potentially get you over the top. It’s a very risky decision.

I don't trust the organization in hamstringing itself with a long term albatross contract and being able to surround Igor with the components to be able to win a cup. Thats the danger here. While I wasn't a fan of them paying King Henrik Lundqvist $8.5M/yr, I can see that more than paying Igor Shesterkin $12M/yr, because, at least, we had so many great years of the former. I think you’re way off on this one. Putting Markstrom and Ullmark in the same sentence as Igor is disrespectful. He’s better than Hellybuck too. He’s the best goalie in the league at this point. 7 for 85 is fair and I would do it as Drury. Laf isn’t going anywhere and if Brandon Schneider would cost me Igor I’ll keep Igor.

I do factor in as well that in three years, Igor would be under contract and other goalies who emerge or have good seasons may end up getting paid more than Igor. I also still think Igor hasn’t hit his ceiling yet.

There is nothing promising in the pipeline. If you could get a top-quality player and prospects/draft picks for Igor, it would probably be the better route to go. Not the popular one but it would be prudent. The Rangers could easily get a decent young goalie for half the price they would have to pay Igor. Remember we had Cam Talbot when they gave Hank that ridiculous contract. I was one of the few that loved Hank but would have let him walk and went with Talbot in the net. They would have been in a much better position to surround Talbot with some talent since he was making peanuts at the time and playing like a #1 starter. No guarantee that they win a cup, but the Hank contract was an albatross contract that really hamstrung the team and prevented the team from getting some quality players to make a push for a championship.
