That scoop is increasing the pressure in the engine bay and therefore making the radiator less effective. If the pressure behind the radiator is greater than in front of the radiator, or the pressure behind the radiator increases at all, no or less air will travel through the radiator. The goal is to evacuate air from the engine bay through the hood in order to reduce nose lift and promote better cooling. Adding scoops is often counterintuitive and will lead to overheating. Manufacturers who design scoops do so with those concepts in mind to prevent overheating.
@@andyossie still won’t work that well. Ideally you want louvres so the air traveling over the hood creates a “vacuum” effect where it meets the air escaping from the hood vent. You want those streams to mix for maximum efficiency. You also want them to meet with laminar flow to reduce turbulence/drag.
@omg_stoppit -- When the bonnet is opened near the end of the video, it looks like the air intake is directly under the scoop and seals against it. I could be wrong, but that would mean it has nothing to do with high/low pressure through radiator.
@@sheldonaubut ah, didn’t see that part. However, given the design, if that’s the only channel for air to enter the intake, then it’ll work. If it’s a secondary hole for “additional cooling”, it effectively creates the same problem.

I was thinking that misha was driving like a mad man on this one but I think it’s just where the guy didn’t have a bucket seat and harness keeping him in really shows how fast he is really going
Youre right about the anti roll bar. Most fwd come way to stiff in front when it comes to anti roll. I wouldnt remove it personally but if you can get a lighter one and get adjustable links that will help so much adjustable links in rear too and this will be so dope.
For the IATs I would check the intake seal, because it should be ambient if it's sealed to the hood/bonnet duct well. It it's not, it'll suck right out any small crack and pull directly from the engine bay and gets hot and terrible quick; even with the big hole out front it still will pull from the tiny hole
Nice car, he needs to do something with those IATs. From half lap onward the engine was struggling, look at the speed climbing Kesselchen, the PCM was pulling back big time.
Seems like nothing has moved forward since I was last in the Mini game 10+ years ago, surprised people still fitting 17% reduction pulleys and still hitting knock/intake temp limits like the brummies did back then because "want muh low down torque bocz bruised ego on the road". Great till about 90mph then flat after as the ECU pulls all the fun. If you are tracking it mostly, ported head, bigger valves, springs etc, more compression (high comp pistons) cams and adjustable gear and run an 11-13% reduced pulley max if you need it is the way to go. Mess around with overlap on the dyno until its where you want the power band (for me it was 4.5 to 7.8k). Dont mess around with meth injection, waste of time/money and dangerous on a car if you stack it and mapping for meth is a engine blow waiting to happen (the geezer I sold mine to fitted meth and a 17% and toasted the engine by mapping for meth and running out of it lol). Spend the money on a Link G4X instead, bin the oem ecu and get an oil temp sensor plumbed in (had one on my setup). Chassis is capable af and the car looks to handle nice so just focus on keeping the power you can make without high temps and spend your money in the driving seat (advice from 2010-2013) 😅
Loved the Lap! I usually dont like Bini laps but this one was a cracker :-) I'd LOVE to see a 60's Morris Mini Cooper or similar do a lap of The Ring, theres a lot of nice race and tracked prep units in Aus so im sure Europe has plenty!
Looked like great fun. One car I miss owning is my r53 Cooper s race chipped with a small supercharger pulley and oversize intercooler. 2 years running I took that car to the ring. 1st year as standard. 2nd year all done up. Only got rid because of kids and the boot would only hold 2 helmets and nothing else would fit
The mini platform especially the R53 are so raw and fun to drive. like a street legal go cart. Misha if you ever do a budget hot hatch build for the channel id love to see what you could do to dial in a mini for the track. proper upgraded supercharger pully and a tune would give you plenty of power to dance with on the track. just a thought!
Il be over later in the summer with my facelift r53 daily from ireland hopefully, grs motorsport intercooler, 550cc injectors and a catcam461 camshaft, 17% reduced s/c pulley, stainless exhuast, front control arms polybushed, 1320mini bytronic ecu tune, fresh clutch, chain, s/c serviced, mapped to 220bhp, has bilsteins b12 suspension kit fitted, new bushs all around, toyo proxys, and r56 mini rear trailing arms and will have r56 jcw front calipers fitted in time 😁 r53s are brilliant cars once a few mods are done to make them more realible
Nurburgring is special exactly for this kind os situation. Where if you like cars and stuff and you go there it will be the best time of your life and you'll remember for ever like the glorification of your passion making you smile like a baby and enjoying every single moment of that lap. You wouldn't need it though as your car is still very low on power. But a dominator cam from rmw and big valve head from rmw would be my next steps in acquiring some hp. Also get yourself a r53s front hood that hood is doing nothing bad but negative things for temps Your top mount is getting absolutely no air whatsoever.
Minis always have staggering grip, they were meant for this. Even non S models have awesome grip all around. Definitely one of the better options out there for the track if not one of the best options for the track. 84c intake temps? That's insane, surprised it didn't blow up! Water meth would definitely help get those down. Also, if the car has headlight washers then run the hose off them to the intercooler and run with the headlights on and it'll spray them, that's what I've done lol. But, water meth really is the way, or front mount. Anything to get below 50c
Yeah -17% isn't the ideal choice for track with a regular top mount setup and you'd want some bigger injectors aswell once opening up the tuning side. -13.2% is what I recommend for Airtec Top mount on track. For GP or GRS top mount on track, on track, -11.5%. Much higher average rpms achieved on track when compared to street eh and there's only so much air the scoop can let in and the engine bay let out
@@cllris the beauty with the headlamp washers is it runs off its own tank and also all the pipework is already in the bonnet so can literally unplug the light jets and run a line straight to the scoop and it's done. Also the pump seems pretty powerful so give a good couple of blasts. I've not had chance to fully test it yet but it definitely slowed temps down when in traffic. I have water meth and it's crazy to watch the iat's go down under acceleration than up.
