This is a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new Land Rover Defender 90 2-door SUV. Durable and capable, the Land Rover Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE, a two door Defender option. Land Rover says the Defender is the strongest, most capable vehicle it has ever built. The Land Rover Defender 90 P400 has a 3L supercharged, turbocharged inline 6 with a mild hybrid system and an 8-speed automatic transmission, 395 horsepower and 406 lb-feet of torque. Standard AWD. Premium fuel is required, you get about 716 km/445 miles per fill. The Land Rover Defender’s capability lets you tackle more challenging conditions on and offroad with confidence. The AWD system combines with electronic traction control and the available Air Suspension Package comes with both adaptive damping and electronic air suspension which offers a more comfortable drive. You can choose from an access height of 2" below normal ride height, to an extended height of up to 3". For extreme off-road conditions, a further extended ride height of 2.8" is available. The adaptive damping monitors wheel position 500 times per second and body movements 100 times per second to give you precise control and minimize body roll. An optional off-road package is available with electronic active differential with torque vectoring by braking as well as off-road tires. The Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE comes standard with 10” touchscreen, available 11.4” which our test model has, a 12.3” digital driver display, heated seats, a heated steering wheel, wireless charger, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, Meridian Surround Sound System, panoramic sunroof, 3D surround camera and blind spot monitoring and rear-cross traffic alert This model can tow 8,201 pounds and has a starting price of $82,750 CAD/$69,100 USD. Price as tested $96,470 CAD.

I’m 54. Daughters grown & gone. Had a Bronco Big Bend 2 door. Loved it. After 6 months it was wrecked in a roll over. Have a new Defender 90 on order arriving in May. If the Bronco hadn’t been destroyed, would have kept it for years to come. However, having the opportunity to have a “do over” the Defender 90 is such an easy decision. 😊

"A subway sandwich" LOL. I think this is your best review yet! I have a big soft spot for Landy having spent a lot of time working on them as a teen in the UK. But the price, lack of reliability and practicality really make it a no.

Great review, owned the Def X 90 P400 for a year now, no issues so far and it’s been great fun. I live in south west London, heading to the south of France in a few days for a couple of weeks, travelling along the coastline. For extra storage I have put two roam adventure boxes on the roof, so no issues in finding additional storage space when you need it 🤓😎👍🙏

My wife (an accountant!) loves her Defender 90. It does so many things so well - cruising the freeways, shopping trips to the mall, towing the boat and driving Australia’s forest tracks. It’s the fifth LR/RR we’ve owned and, as it happens, we’ve had no problems with any of them.

What a machine! Absolutely the Best 4x4xfar! Despite reliability ‘concerns’, I can’t think of anyone’s Dream Garage that doesn’t have one. Having achieved my mechanics card working with a Land Rover/Rolls Royce/Jaguar dealership (Montréal), I have always been in love with them. There is nothing like them. Thanks for the video.

Our family has an over 15 years old one. Unless u hv someone can fix your car regularly. Otherwise it is very expensive to maintain its shape. The electrical issues n tiny parts deteriorations that u have to get used to it.

As a 2022 Defender 110 owner, here is what I'd like to add: I have the LCD rearview mirror, so rear visibility is no issue. The seats are NOT supportive. The thigh supports are pretty much FLAT, so thighs get very tired on long trips. The moonroof is for rear passengers to enjoy, as you don't see any of it from the front. You do feel the wind tho. And the wind noise when it's open is substandard. Wind buffeting is absolutely attrocious, so remember to open more windows to counter that. It's always slow off the line (but hilarious when the turbo kicks in). But then in the end, this is a purpose built vehicle, so if you're not going off road with it, you're only going to notice the short comings of it on the road. Give it a chance to impress you with its strengths, and the weaknesses will mostly fade away.

Ever since the mid 90s, I've had to stop myself from buying/leasing a land rover because, I (Almost) let my emotions get the best of me. This one however, while still being expensive for a 2 door, is Gorgeous!!! That color and package, is exactly how I would spec mine out. Great video you two.

I'm with Zach: I secretly love the looks of the 2 door Defender 90. Especially in light green with white trim. I don't like that if you can find one in the USA, it's tens of thousands over MSRP. And I'm not a huge fan of 1960s era fuel economy. This would be pretty cool as a BEV. Somebody parks one of these near me and I drool every time I bicycle past it. And yea, it's parked in front of an art gallery. That Defender 90 will never see anything but city pavement. We owned a 2-door RAV 4 last century. This car so reminds me of that little runabout. This needs a rear seat delete!

Quite capable vehicles, but horror stories about electrical, electronic, and early mechanical failures. Keep that same design and completely electrify it with a respectable range and Land Rover will be the ones to beat for at least a decade.

You always here so much in social media and quality surveys about how unreliable land rovers are, but I never hear a good explanation of the reasons why? Is it something fundamental about their designs? Their approach to manufacturing? The quality of their suppliers? I’m genuinely curious. Hope they can improve it as they are such appealing vehicles in many other respects.

You should watch the documentary about BMW and Toyota's joint development of the Z and Supra. BMW sent over their engine to Toyota for testing and they had to reject it multiple times because Toyota has such high standards for reliability. It's just like people. Some will hand in homework or career work that is just OK and others will check it and make it perfect. Europeans just like to spend their time & budget on passion & design, American brands spend it on large space, while Asian brands spend it on longevity and let their car designs go to the sh!tbox. To each their own.
