- Want to learn how to bend your own dotting tools? Then you have come to the right place. Step by Step tutorial on how to bend your dotting tools.
I did a video on this a long time ago which seems to have gotten lost to the UA-cam wasteland ....so here is a refresher on how to create your own angled tools for dotting
Many of you have told me you do not have the pliers or strength in your hands so I will still be selling them in my shop because I am aware of the need now.
The order is supposed to be in this week so keep an eye on my Shop

Disclaimer: I said this in the video...but in case you do not watch all the way through.
Some types of tools do not work well to be bent and will break. You need to be careful not to break the ball and off of the stylist. Others may break in the handle if you are too strong with your bending and don't brace it properly. This is another reason I am happy to make them for you to reduce your risk of break your own tools.

I have learned alot from you. I am a beginner but love dotting. Thank you
You are so welcome! I think you are going to love this! :) welcome to the dotting world :)
I bent my tools last night and used them (and used them again today). This is BRILLIANT! So much better placement on my pieces. Thank you so much for sharing this technique. I haven’t seen any other dotters explain why this is easier.
I started it from seeing a brush that was like that...I am so glads it was helpful :)
Thank you so very much ... Did it to all my tools. It's a game changer ❤
Wonderful!! It is my pleasure. I am so glad it helped
Thank U once again for teaching us how to do something that we all love doing. There again Ur showing all of us what a GREAT TEACHER U R... The sign of a GREAT TEACHER is wanting those that U teach to EXCEL in all that they do & even if they pass U by in their skill or CRAFT, U don't take that as a slam, but as a Crown!!!! Thank U
Thanks so much! Newbie here & this is a big game changer for me! Unfortunately the large end of the green one did break on me & that was my favorite size : ( BUT as compensation I do find that not only is it easier to see but my dots are so much more consistently ROUND! Before bending I was just practicing making dots on scrap cardboard trying to get better at making them actually round - lo & behold, bending the tools solved that instantly! Thanks again for this SUPER tip which I would not have thought of!
Thank you Miranda, you are a sweet and kind person 💗💗💗 Congratulations to your daughter, how exciting college at 15, off on a new adventure 👏🏻💫 Your other daughter must be excited too to start at a new school so she has her own new adventure as well 👏🏻💫 I love your tutorials and art work. You’re fun to watch and learn from 💗👏🏻💗👏🏻💗
I'm new to this and have learned so much from your videos. I just received my set of tools today and was able to bend them after watching your video. Thank you for your help and your beautiful designs
Welcome aboard! How is it going for you now? 1 month in? :)
Thank you so much for sharing this with all.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I've only ever seen these tools on videos and have been trying to find them here in South Africa. I can't thank you enough!
What a good heart to share this with your followers. Bless you🙏🏼
Thank you so much for this video!!!
Thank you .. perfect!
I would suggest using a vise to grip the handle to help hold it steady and not hurt your hands.
Thank you for sharing.
Great tip. I found it challenging to control and broke a few, so I went back to the "hand held" method. Some people may have more finesse than I do with a vice. 😉❤️
@@MirandaPitrone did you have the vise mounted to the workbench? I've found that you can use the rubber type drawer liners to help snug up the round shapes to keep them from slipping.
Thank you so much for sharing this video. I was getting ready to order some bent tools but then I saw your video. It saved me from placing that order. Thanks again
Glad I could help!
Thank you for sharing this, you are so sweet and kind. Love your tutorials and your a beautiful person 💗💗💗👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
You are very sweet. It is really my pleasure. I have learned a lot over the years but even I am learning new things too! This art adventure is a rewarding experience
I just did mine, thanks Miranda, so appreciate your instructions on bending them.....worked out GREAT!!
Wonderful! I am so glad it worked for you!
A friend sent me a bent dotter and I love it!!! I had my husband bend several of my tools for you! Thanks for the idea!!!
awesome! My pleasure!
Thank you for sharing.
My pleasure. I hope it helps
Thank you so much for this - I immediately had the confidence to bend my spare set of tools, with no problems (just the larger nail on the green tool was too large to bend). Thank you!
The green was a challenge...and usually the one I break the most,😁
Thanks again Miranda for the video. I managed to bend my tools tonight (without breaking anything, lol) and it is SO much easier to see with that bend!
Really appreciate it ❤️

Thank you for this! 💕
You're so welcome! I figure people might as well make their own if they want to :)
@@MirandaPitrone Your very kind, ty again.💕
I did make my own using your video and it worked very well. I did break the thickest one though trying to pull it back after bending too far. That wasn't a good idea. Lol! But the others turned out perfectly.
@@freedomrdmo oh..no....That is why I gave the warning...I have broken a few in my days too.😉 I hope they work well for you. I love them
Thanks so much for showing how to bend these. I was wondering how you did that.
If you have tools that have teeth, wrap them with electrical tape before bending your dotters. This helps either prevent or reduce the dents the pliers make.
Great tip. Thank you
Thank you
nope...I just paint it
Thanks so much for sharing this, when I asked hubby he said they will break...mine are wooden of course 🤨🤨☹️☹️ ....but I am still giving it a go if I can’t do it myself, I don’t have a lot of strength in my hands, I will get hubby to watch video and try for me ... love your artwork too !! xo 💕💕 stay safe and healthy!
Awesome! I hope it worked for you!
I love these. I use E6000 on the hole of the one that the tip comes out of. It takes longer to dry than superglue. However, I find that eventually the superglue becomes dry and flakes. Where as the E6000 does not. Just my little tip.
That is a great tip! Thank you so much for sharing
Thank you for your guidance I had my first go at dotting art today it's harder then you think x
Hi Sylvia, yes in the beginning it can be quite daunting, but hang in there it will get better in time.
I guess I could still be considered a newbie, I’ve not been doing it very long, but I have overcome
a few things. You can do it Sylvia. 😊
Keep at it❤ You will improve so quickly, it does not take long. Thinner paint is easier to work with...I find the biggest problem people have is that their paint is too thick.💙💙💙🖌🖌 Thank you for watching! I wish you the best on your new art adventure. Welcome to the dotting addition🤣🤣
Miranda Pitrone Art
Oh you are so right Miranda about the thickness of the paint, I found that out the hard way, and certain brands are thicker than others.
Come to think of it I think you did a video on that didn’t you, great help 😊
@@sherry9284 yes I did a video a long time ago. I was hoping to save others all the time and money of finding a good dot paint
Sylvia Watts I have been working with the paints that have and some are definitely better than others. Silvia, I am in the same boat. I have been practicing and I am having difficulty with my spacing but I think partly because of my eysight. Lol. I really want to master this so I will keep trying.
AWESOME. I just happen to have a pair of robo grip pliers.
Just be careful not to break of the ends :)
I accidentally bent one side of my blue handled one and I was tempted to do it to the rest!
Go for it!! :)
Thanks for the helpful video, Miranda. Would it help to heat the stylus end first? I wonder if that would help prevent it from breaking?
it might...my only concern would be melting the plastic part
Lock tight glue is the best
yes another good one...and 9001 I have used as well...
Miranda Pitrone Art I’ll have to try it as well.. luv your work by the way xx
Thank you so much!!
I wonder if you heat the metal end first it would be easier to bend?
It is a possibility. I have been making them for about ten years now. I guess I got used to the force it takes. Heating may help but I am not sure of the integrity of the metal or melting the handles...maybe a lampwork torch?
Hi Miranda...thank you for this great video. I was just wondering ...do the pliers mark the ball at all? Or damage the smoothness of the ball? Thanks 😀
I have only had that happen once on a chincy set that I bought from wish. It will make a bend mark after the ball. Sometimes depending on the tools the metal is coated in some kind of laminate and that will peel a bit, but for the most part I have not had any issues. also I recommend just giving it one good bend and don't try to adjust it afterwards sometimes that will just break the ball off
@@MirandaPitrone thank you. I've bought a spare set....wish me luck and thanks again for the video
@@karenjoyce2932 good luck
@@MirandaPitrone Oiii Miranda Boa tarde! Vou fazer uma simulação me fala uma coisa você e de qual país? Pq minha filha mora fora do Brasil ai vejo aqui e dependendo ela ver la também.
I can't access the FB page, Instagram page, or active Etsy Shop.
I’d love to number mine smallest to biggest. Is there a guide for the colored handle tools to show the numbers?
Each set made from different companies is a little different. Usually largest is green. Then blue, white, yellow, pink
I used permanent marker & covered it with tape so it wouldn't run off. Clear nail polish might work as well.
Do the plastic dotting tools crack while bending them?
Yes the plastic ones but would ones they all will break if you bend them too hard. That was how I started selling some of them in my Etsy shop because people are having a difficult time and we didn't want to waste their money breaking their tools. It can be done on your own it just has to be done gingerly
@@MirandaPitrone Thank you!
It is much easier to bend it with a fork, takes 3 seconds :)
Don't know if this helps you but the plastic dotting tools you can get from a shop in the
U.K. For £1 for 6 I think if you want me to send you some let me know
Sylvia Watts Hi Sylvia, I broke 3 of my tools in the bending process, need to replace them now! Could you please let me know where to find them? I live in Essex.
Hi Madge I got mine from home bargains if you can't get them let me know and I will,go

Sylvia Watts Thank you so much Sylvia, will search for a store close by. Will keep you updated. 🌹
