NieR: Automata | Project YoRHa Lies

Deep within the Tower, 9S comes across a third set of twins. These two child-like beings known as “Red Girls” are the terminal mastermind entity behind the Tower and this whole cycle of war. They provoke 9S by questioning the relevance of his existence now that he’s realized that Project YoRHa was set up to trap the machines and YoRHa units in a never ending battle in order to keep the hoax regarding humanity’s survival alive.
They further state that they are a concept that cannot be killed. While they had actually intended to completely wipe out the androids, they changed their minds after seeing the curious behaviours of both the machines and androids. They noted that both lifeforms started trying so hard to be human, to live like them and they were curious to observe how this development would pan out.

Why was so important that they keep the hoax regarding humanitys survival? And how were the red girls behind the cycle of war? The backdoor was oppened by the same YoRHa higher command, right?

They saw that the android's morale has gone to shit when they figured out that humanity was extinct. Dont know about the other things.

1- The androids morale went to shit after project gestalt failed and they realized humans were most likely dead, so they came up with the hoax to boost it up
2- The girls were the machines AI that at first wanted to just kill all the androids, just like their masters (the aliens) told them to, however they realized that if they killed all androids, they would have to purpose, so they just decided to make an endless war where they get to keep fighting them over and over
3- I think the backdoor was programmed from the start in the YorHa project so that it would activate after certain amount of time, wiping out all of the androids, and then the few YorHa that remain (The ones that are keeping the server on the moon online), restart the project with newer models using the data obtained from the previous instance
