Riding $12,000 E-Bikes At South Mountain - How Rad Are These Bikes?! The Pivot Shuttle

  • Stoked to share our ride on the Pivot Shuttle with ya'll! Jess and I had the pleasure of trying out these beasts out at South Mountain. Pivot HQ is only a mile away from SoMo and is probably the perfect bike to ride there. The E-bike eats up the rugged terrain and punchy climbs. The long travel 29er rips down the descents. The extra weight low on the bike actually helps stabilizes the bike on the rough terrain as it monster trucks downhill. The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was that it's not as playful with that extra weight. I come from BMX and my style of riding is slashing around having fun which isn't what this bike excels at. If your looking for speed and are a more straight liner kind of rider I'm sure you'll feel right at home on the Shuttle.
What I love most about the Ebike is just how much more you can ride. Getting up to the fun stuff is so much faster and easier. Also the climbs and flat stuff are more enjoyable. I'm all about it and would love to have my own. So damn expensive though. It would also never be my only bike either, still need an acoustic bike.

Looks like a blast. I love my ebike. I think ebikes could open new competitive climbing type of competitions.

We definitely had a blast! Yeah I could see that. I’ve even talked about making different kinds of climb trails that are for e-bikes too. Like uphill berms and flow

Rad showcase of these capable machines. It was cool to get your perspective on these things coming from a couple fully analog units. I can see the draw for shuttling or someone who can benefit from the extra lift, yet I don’t know when these will actually appeal to me. I’m sure they were a blast to ride though! You guys rode em hard and dry!

Yeah you already have that built in motor for the climbs. We’d probably get to the top at the same time if I was one the Shuttle and you’re on your Yeti.

But seriously I think it would be rad at a place like Tioga. Just blast the road up and get to take like twice as many runs down in a day

@@ridindirt For sure, prob get like 3x the runs. Some day the battery’s and motor will be so light the bike could remain more nimble.

I was against the EMTB at first because I thought they had twist throttle type setup like dirt bikes. But after riding a buddy's in Bentonville I definitely feel in love with them. I ended up buying one from YT and do not regret it at all. They are not cheap but they are more fun. I notice the extra weight, but it makes all terrain, even jumps, more fun in my opinion.

Totals dude. I’ve definitely checked out the YT. None are in stock at the moment though. Pretty solid price point for em. Any complaints about yours?

@@ridindirt I got my YT Decoy in late October and have rode it at Farside Bikepark and Proving grounds trails in Dubuque, Iowa. It handled everything with no problems at all but I wouldn’t say I had it long enough to give you a full opinion on it. I know you worked on Farside and I wouldn’t call those little jumps.

So rad! I love my Norco ebike. Best investment ever. Makes a normal XC trail around here so much more fun. Going to Duluth or anywhere and riding tons of different stuff, it's amazing.

Definitely a different ride. It’s best to have both but I only can afford 1 bike and Im happy I decided on a ebike. Turning 44 this year and I appreciate the assist when I want it . Places like Tioga it’s just rinse and repeat all day . Looks like you both had a lot of fun on them !

Curious why anyone would pick one of these over a stark varg, which also runs ~ $12k. Please entertain me. Trying to find any reason why someone could justify a 12k bicycle over a more solid E bike.
Makes me feel a bit better about myself that people spend 12k on a straight up bicycle after spending “only” 4 on a surron.
