Hello Ian, I can't thank you enough for your time and energy with a bit of candid humor that you share for those us who are just learning how to paint with acrylics! I was so totally lost trying to follow someone who was already a master painter using oils. I became very discouraged until I found your videos and have started to actually learn and enjoy what I'm learning!! Thank you again! 💕
You are the first person to get through my thick hard head and make perfect sense. At 75 and a teacher myself I can say you teach to all learning styles. Thanks so much for adding to my golden years. You have given me a reason to keep learning! Thanks Ian!
You are a wonderful teacher. I have not painted for 50 years…you have certainly moved me to paint again.. Did I mention I’m 89 my medium was oils. I like acrylic cause no terpentine smell.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I am one of those beginners who is having trouble with clouds. You've answered all of my questions (so far), and I can't wait to get a retarder and give it another go. You've really bolstered my confidence level, Ian. Thank you so much!
Hi Ian. My name is Lise :) and I live in Norway. I enjoy learning from you. Right now I am working on skies and clouds. Have no bigger experience with acrylics, so I guess you would call me a newbie... :) Thank you for sharing. Hope you are safe. Hugs from Norway, Lise Victoria
That's exactly what I have a problem with, too; with not being able to make the clouds coming towards me. I've got me paints waiting for me now. I just watched two of your other videos but I bumped into this one, too, about clouds; so, I'm going to watch this one, as well, before I start. Thank you so much. YAY
Thanks Ian, this video is exactly what I was looking for on clouds painting…you make it look so easy to do… you are a great teacher! Cheers from Atlantic Canada…Nova Scotia.
Hi Ianapolis, Really good to watch your videos, I'm new to painting so watching you paint clouds makes it look easy. may be one day I will be as good as you.CheersDave J
Hi Ian, Thanks for sharing all of your knowledge on the complex problem of painting clouds. You made it clear to me of what I do wrong. Here in hot & dry AZ. at 115 degrees F. I must use special techniques. I also changed my brushes and blending techniques.Judy Tromblee
Omg Thank you so much for making this tutorial!!!😍 You are the BEST!!!!!! & I love your method of teaching clouds!!!I've struggled with clouds and water & how you teach to do it finally makes sense & gives me the confidence to try it!!!!💙💙💙💙💙

You are my angel 😇 because you care about the people ! I am really lucky !
Fabulous tutorial, Ian! Adding “yumminess” is a great idea. Wonderful to learn so much by watching you explain the details. Thank you thank you for this lesson. I enjoyed it very much.
Thanks for this, it's been really helpful. Am now off to study clouds......😊 but the more you showed us how retarder works, makes me realise the ratio of that is so vital too. Wow! You are a wonderful teacher, please don't stop doing this for us, so helpful. Right! Skies here I come....🏃♀️
merci beaucoup pour vos explications , je suis bien content de vous connaitre ,et j'ai appris beaucoup de choses je suis robert de paris (France) BRAVO ...
Hi Ian, I am late to the painting party but I am wondering what kind of paper is good for practicing as I don't want to waste fabric canvas practicing these clouds. Thanks for all your help and teachings!!
Hi Ian. I love your tutorials and the fact that you love cats is the added bonus. Can you be specific on you blending brushes and sizes. I'm traveling...I live on a small island so some things I need to buy else where. I have already bought a good brush from a hardware store to put the paint on the canvas but based on this tutorial I need another brush for the blending. I would appreciate your list so I can get the right kind. Thanks a mil
What kind of brush are you using for the blending of the clouds ? Is it just like some thing we use for painting around the house? Can i use a mop brush? Sorry but did you paint the blue sky over the retardant white while it was still wet?
Oh clouds how I love and hate you. I have found that sometimes randomly you do a really goodun but generally my clouds look a little rough. Going to give your techniques a go tomorrow on a small palette.
What material are you blending brushes and were can you get them online?? The only flat brushes I could find in the store were darkere and I dont think that they were synthetic like the ones you mentioned...
Ian, I must say I am learning a lot watching you I am new at painting. I’m on your Facebook page but I don’t go by Kat on there I go by Flo my first name. The point is thank you, you are like having my own art teacher! Are the blending brushes like the ones from the hardware store? Thank you again!!
Hi Ian 👋🏻 Do you use a high viscosity paint for the clouds, or is it just a soft body paint please? I’m in the UK so I don’t know if the stuff that we have is different from yours. Have been practicing and things ARE improving but there’s loads of room for improvement. Thanks so much for this tutorial, I am learning a great deal from you 😊👍 🏴
Ah, and herein lies my issue. As a novice I have been using the beginner type paints and I assume they are the soft body paints, as my clouds have turned out a bit similar to the wishy washy type you did in the cloud tutorial. Ok, now that you’ve confirmed this for me, I’ll try either structure gel with the paint or get some thicker paint. Thanks again Ian 👍

ian i am a beginner at age 73, i have watched a lot of painters on you tube you my friend are the only one that shows what brushes to use how to use the slow drying medium or retarder all i need now is to find how you paint the palm trees, the ocean and pine trees, i for the life of me cannot paint a pine tree with a fan brush, do i need to get a hog fan brush or is synthetic just as good? thank you again oh by the way i am from southern california.
ian i noticed you esiel has like a board in front of it that you put your palet in front of your canvas, where did you get that or did u make that yourself
What type of brushes are you using for your blending brushes? This is what I can find, but is rather pricey at $30 US: Silver Brush 1414S-2 Grand Prix Superior White. Bristle Short Handle Brush, Flat Bulletin Cutter, 2-Inch.
I have never used the white one, give it a go and see how it works that way you can answer your own question lol, but yeah let me know how it went, cheer's Ian.
Hi Ian me again, I tried the white retarder & I like it. It mixes great with my acrylics & does not affect the color. I’m glad I got this by accident. It seems to add more body even which is strange.
Hi Ian. I have followed all these tutorials and I am better at clouds but only with your help. I am trying to copy clouds my 6year old grandaughter took a photo of for Nanna to paint. Sorry to say it was useless. Put it in the bin. Can you help.Pamela UK 😢😢
