I’m glad you reviewed this kayak. I’ve been looking for a kayak to replace my old regular kayak now that I only have a small suv and I’m too short to easily put a solid kayak up and down on my car.
Hi Andrea. I have owned 5 (9) foot rigid kayaks. This one is great. No roof rack needed. If you can lift 22 pounds you can lift this boat. Setup is as simple as I showed. But be aware this boat is for calm water. If you need a spray skirt for waves etc then the Oru Bay might be a better choice. For me this boat is perfect for water I find when I am out with my trailer exploring. Good Luck! =Cosmo

Bought the Oru Inlet in June and absolutely love it. It'd be impossible for me to have any other type of hard-shell kayak living in a small apartment in Philly with no car. I can rent a compact car and head out to a lake and have it set up in no time with no hassle. I enjoyed hearing your opinion about this model since you're an experienced kayaker (I'm new to it). I would love to know where you're camping & paddling in PA in this video, or if you have other recommendations in this area.

Hi John. Thanks for dropping in. This is somewhat dependent on your goals. If you want to paddle for 2 hours or so the inlet is really fantastic. Sets up instantly. The inlet is short and wide which means slower on the water and requires a bit more effort. If you want to paddle 2 to 5 hours on flat water in a regular basis. Consider a 12 foot boat like the Beach or Bay. If you are going for distance and all day paddling the coast at 16 feet is a good choice. I also own the Haven 2 seat boat which is 16 feet and can be set up to paddle alone. But the haven is heavy it weighs about 40 pounds. For just getting out on the water quickly and having a nice time I like the Inlet. There is an Oru owners group on facebook where you can get more opinions too! How do you think this would handle launching from rougher beaches? Say a cement launch or a lake side with some rocks? Just concerned about rocks or causing dents or possible puncture. Thanks!
Hi Victoria. I have launched from cement, rocks etc. I am always careful. I typically float the boat then get in rather than jump is and scrape it across rocks. With tender loving care there should be no problems. Oru has a lot of boats on the water and few complaints. Thank You for watching. I heard about folding kayaks off and on through the past few years. I never looked into them until now, these are really incredible. I also seen the Tucktech folding kayaks which are a lot cheaper and still highly rated. My only question is will it eventually start leaking at the seams from lots of folding and unfolding? I'm just about ready to totally sell my hard body and get one of these.
From the Oru Web site Durability - Our boats are lightweight but extraordinarily strong. They're created from 5 mm double-layered, custom-extruded polypropylene with a 10-year UV treatment. Translation? Oru Kayaks are incredibly puncture + abrasion resistant and built to last. With a super tough hull, they can withstand sliding over rocks, bumping into obstacles, and they are rated to 20,000 fold cycles.
I bought a Tucktec, I hated it, I have an older version. No foot rest, the seat is awful, it slides around and doesn't stay put. On my second use the plastic round the fittings started to tear, even though I left it to warm up in the sun as recommended by the manufacturer. I approached the manufacturer with my concerns and heard nothing but crickets! I bought it to see if I thought the Oru was something I would be interested in. I should have just bought the Oru instead. Im looking at one now and trying to decide which model.

My husband and I would like kayaks to bring with us when we go camping. Transportation has always been an issue. I stumbled across the Oru and we are very interested. Do you know what the durability of the seams are? I know the website says it can fold 20,000 times. What is your exspieriance with the duality of the seams. We also would just use the kayaks on lakes.
The kayaks need to be treated gently compared to rental kayaks. When I launch I float the boat in 4 inches of water than get in to avoid scratches. Scratches are OK but I like to care for my gear. The boat durability in normal use is excellent. I recommend them Seams are not a problem at all. I think the Inlet is the perfect boat for my tiny trailer. Discount coupon in comments! Greetings fellow jersey-Ian! Great video Cosmo. That seems extremely well built. I didnt know a folding kayak was a thing. So I’m curious. If you were to buy another camper today. Would you get another Vistabule? (Fairly certain I know the answer to that) if so how would you option it out compared to how you originally did? I’ve been spending a ton of time with your videos and I’m curious how your experience would translate if you were to be starting out now with the options they currently offer.. Maybe a good topic for a new video?🤷♂️ any way. Love your content. Keep it up and stay safe. In the meantime I’m going to live through your adventures as I save to get my own....I’ve got a few years before then. Take care.
Thanks for stopping in Matthew. I have owned the Vistabule for 5.5 years. It took me a year to decide on the Vistabule. I looked at all forms of camping. I do lots-O-backpacking, kayak camping, bicycle camping and more. The trailer just seemed to fit my style. I like to be in the weather. Its not for everyone. I would be board in a traditional RV. I can get this trailer in places no other RV would fit. Once I was set on a small trailer It came down to features. This one has what I want and it fills those needs very well. I have been doing week long trips this summer to remote areas in PA. The trailer is my base for biking, hiking and kayaking. I try and show gear to help people consider what they might need. Yes I would buy this trailer configured the same way with the same gear. RVs are notoriously bad investment. They depreciate very fast. However I have been offered a lot more for my trailer than I paid for it! Thanks for watching =Cosmo
Great reviews. I have heard that the Oru material holds water inside and continues to drip, and drain for days later. Have you experienced that? Also do you find the width on this model too wide to get a comfortable paddle stroke?

I was hoping I supplied enough information that the viewer could make the decision if the boat is right for them. I have owned 13 kayaks. I owned 4 in the 9 foot length over the years. They were rigid kayaks. If I needed a 9 foot boat I would go for the Inlet folding boat rather than a rigid boat. There is the huge advantage of the boat folding. However there is one consideration. If you are going into rough water and you need a spray skirt - this boat does not accept a spray skirt. It is not a rough water boat. With that in mind I recommend the boat for someone planning to use it the way I showed. I hope this helps. =Cosmo

This link will take you to the 10% discount

I love my coast but I use the inlet very often because its so convenient.

Very cool! Definitely looking into this!
Its a good ultra portable boat. I think I will be using it on every trip going forward! Thanks for watching =Cosmo
I was first looking for an inflatable kayak to cruise the Amsterdam channels but this kayak looks awesome and more suited to my needs! How is the comfort of the seat? Great review! Thank you
Sounds like fun! I think its a better boat than inflatables. Seat is OK for 3 hours. Oru sells a seat wedge which adds more comfort. I recommend the wedge for more paddling time. Thank You for watching. Check my other videos ua-cam.com/users/cosmoweemsvideos

@@CosmoWeems Thanks Cosmo! Love your other videos as well. What about wakes? here alot of boats passing by. Will the water easy get in the boat?
@@Terpentin07 Might depend on the size and speed of the passing boat! The boat is very buoyant and typically rides up the wave and down the other side. But its a tough call for all waves! =Cosmo

Check my other videos ua-cam.com/users/cosmoweemsvideos

From the Oru Web site Durability -
Our boats are lightweight but extraordinarily strong.
Enjoyed it, Cosmo! How much weight will it carry? Cajun
Thank You! Load capacity is 275 pounds. Thanks for watching =Cosmo

Hi Jeff. my boats don't have water in the corrugation spaces. Maybe older designs. But I have read about standing the boat upright to drain. No first had experience on this. I have 3 Oru boats at this time. Thank You for watching. Check my other videos ua-cam.com/users/cosmoweemsvideos

So what’s the conclusion of your review?
=Cosmo
Cosmo Weems thanks for the reply. I am new to kayak and want a beginner kayak, which one suites me better, inlet or beach? Thanks
@@travelhawk7895 A longer boat is better in most cases. For me this shorter boat packs up so small I chose the inlet. If I had more space in my vehicle I would go for he beach. If I was going in the ocean where waves will crash over the deck I would go for the Bay or Coast. I reviewed those boats too. Thank You for watching.
