you are not alone. I have walked on my toes for years. I have done physio, casting, I have seen lots of doctors and nothing worked. I am on a waiting list for surgery
We are going to opt for surgery for my 9yr old son who toe walks since age of 3. My son started walking after age 2 normal, flat footed. Later developed toe walking. He never complained of pain, but recently does complain of pain when standing or walking down stairs. The surgery is booked end of May. Does anyone know of long term effects of these surgeries - are patients living a normal life 5 years on from surgery?
Yes, patients live a normal life after surgery, way before five years. You may find the link below helpful. pediatricfootankle.com/surgeries/achilles-tendon-lengthening-surgery/ Take a look at the video "Where conservative treatment has failed"(Pre and post surgery on an 8yr old boy). Thank you for viewing and sharing your's son's experience.
Hello Nikki, There are very specific protocols that are followed for pediatric toe walkers. Of course, all conservative care is exhausted. In severe cases where a child cannot even stand with their heels down, let alone walk, surgery is the best option to get them on the path to walking normally. Thanks for your question. Dr. Jarman
@@PediatricFootAnkle thank you for replying. We have an appt with a pediatric orthopedic Dr on Thursday for my son who is 8 this month. He's been a toe walker since 10 months old. He can go flat foot but says it hurts his heels? And that on his toes it doesn't. Also when he stands flat his posture isn't straight and tall at all and says he can't? But his spine is good. What can I expect do you think for our appointment, evaluation and possible treatment? Should I expect x-rays, mri?
Hi, My son is also the same. But he had muscle legnthening surgery 2 years ago but started walking on his toes this year. His doctor recommended another that's the tendon legnthening surgery. But I would like to know how he is doing now.. I'm really worried if this will work for him or not Thx
My Child has Cerebral Palsy and he has been diagnosed with PVL with his walking toe on one leg we live in the UK not in the USA it's possible to get booked surgery from the UK, but how much does it cost ?
A virtual consult would be required first. The link to make that request is noted below. And yes, families have traveled here to Arizona to have their child's toe walking surgically corrected. The video in the link also explains how that process takes place. As someone who went throughout the whole surgery process, it took less than 6 months for me to recover so don’t worry! :)
@@1N5RYP710Nwas it painful??
@@melissavaldez2521 it was for the first few weeks but the pain gradually subsided
Was anything done before surgery? Like casts or pt? I always thought surgery was a last resort
