He looks like a mixture of Christopher Nolan and Draco Malfoy
Pretty good description
I definitely saw some young Nolan in him there.
Lmaooo. I was thinking that he does remind me of someone, but couldn't remember who. but now that you've mentioned Nolan, I can't unsee it 💀..
😭😭😭
Shit you nailed it lol. A grownup Draco Malfoy lol
Wow! Just look at how 'different' Daniel looks back then. He totally shredded himself in order to portray Bond.
And he changed his hairstyle for Bond. Why? So he wouldn't look blonde or he would be taken more seriously?
@@hunterxsimple3821 more serious
Looks like mr potato head
He looks a lot different or really young, his hair or something. I really liked him as Bond. Wish he had made a couple more movies in that 15 year span.
In this screen test I honestly find it hard to see Craig as Bond, he looks skinny, with long hair, he looks more like a university history professor than a secret agent. Without a doubt, the hair cut and having worked on his muscles, made a difference and gave him the touch he needed to become the brutal Bond of Casino Royale.
He always had the perfect voice for it.
agree. I'm sure that was a big part of why they wanted to cast him so bad
PERFECT.
I totally agree. The train scene where he met Vesper was the perfect example of this

Fallen in love with Eva Green ever since!!
And Casino Royale turned out to be one of the best, if not, the best movie in his tenure.
Casino Royale is still the best bond movie, bar none.
Not only is Casino the best Bond film, it might be up there as one of the best action films of all time. It’s certainly in my personal top 20.
Are you guys high??? Casino Royale the best Bond movie??? You guys must be under 20.
@@laurencewhite4809 41 actually.
@@laurencewhite4809 Casino Royale is generally considered one of the best Bond movies, and consistently makes it into the top 5 lists of best Bond movies all time. It’s an incredible film.
it's incredible how they saw it in him even though he really didn't look the part before his transformation. he looked like gareth from the office
Exactly..., it takes a lot of talent to spot the potential of what he can be, and to take him to that level.
I can't say if that's entirely the case. I mean, pick any actor that played Bond before Craig. Connery, Moore, Brosnan and the few others. None of them were muscular and chiseled like Daniel Craig. In fact, they all bear more resemblance physically to how he looks in this screen test than the actual movies. I think the character of James Bond is more about being sharp and suave than being strongly built, but it's just my opinion.
@@gogoi.p bond was never a huge muscular man!!! but look at craig here, he looks lanky and seedy, almost like gareth from the office!
I could see "Bond" in him in the movie Layer Cake.
@@hatsigeo1283 no way. he looks like gareth from the office in that movie
I think it was his performance in Layercake that earned him this gig. His nonchalance and the cool way he carries himself gave the movie Bond character something that we only read in the Fleming novels.
I absolutely loved Layer Cake! I agree, he was the beginnings of James Bond in that film.
Probably Tomb Raider helped a lot. He had a shower scene where he was totally ripped and gorgeous.
Munich didn't do him any harm either. Although it wasn't released until after he signed on, it was already in the can.
Munich was the movie that made them want him. Spielberg even spurred on Craig in taking the role. Is in documentaries etc this was the movie that made them want him,
Are Flaming novels the ones from Fahrenheit 451?
Casino Royale was such a great movie. If only they could retain that level in future installments.
Casino Royale, Skyfall and No time to Die are the best.
Yeah. Casino Royale is, for me, the most Bond movie of all.
Skyfall was good but it was back to movie Bond again and it’s tropes. It was a bit of an attempt to bring all the Bond fans together with mixing the new (and closer to the original concept) Bond and the old movies Bond. But most have been just bad. Even the last one.
Casino Royale, in my opinion, proved that we could have a serious Bond, like in the books. But it seems people just want cheap comedy and gadgets and so they just went back to it quickly. Hooray for popcorn casual viewers and focus groups, I guess..
@@Quetzalcoatl83 You are exactly correct!
@@Daniel__Nobre Quantum of Solace doubled down the serious and gave us a shitty movie. Not because it was dark, but because it was shitty.
Casino Royale is the only movie that is impressive. In fact, amazing! The others were a serious decline in likeability of the character, script, cast, and so much more.. Skyfall is the most overrated of them all. The last one I refuse to watch. I can't see them do what they did to Bond's character. Pure writing garbage --ever since after Casino Royale.
Man I'm gonna miss him as 007
Not with any innuendos.
I’m not glad to see back of him

horrible truly horrible.
Not in my view
Ghastly piece of casting
“Thug bond” as my wife labelled him after watching Casino Royale. They clearly didn’t want the new bond to be sauve and sophisticated as they went with short and charisma free instead. Thankfully the new bond - Aaron Taylor Johnson - at least looks the part.
Bond should have dark hair, and plenty of charisma.
The worst of them by far, he literally looks like the neighbourhood plumber
Anyone who saw Layer Cake knew he was destine to be the next bond. That little 2004 movie was his real audition (that's why she kept saying "we only wanted him")
I saw this (Layer Cake) much later after Casino Royale and finally understood why he was it was an unintentional audition for Bond. Brilliant film
Remember how the press HATED him. "James Blonde" they called him.
It wasn't just the press. Above all, it was embittered internet fanboys who hate everything new at first.
Oh, I remember the bitchy British press at the time though, some quite funny. The line that stuck was “he isn’t TERRIBLE looking, but he kind of looks like a dropped pear.” 😂 I mean they went from the prior guy who looked like a literal model from a middle age nappy commercial, to this one. So the bitchy press had a point in the context of the time. The thing was the new films HAD to have a different vibe. It wasn’t that the script, that made the reboot with Daniel Craig so good, it was that start of the Bourne franchise just DESTROYED what people expected of spy films, and the level of professionalism people were entertained by. If they hadn’t gone for the gritty new Bond aim, with nods to the past, then they would have killed the franchise. So they had to lose the cheesy jokes (mostly), put a more normal looking person in the role, lose the stupid gadgets (again, mostly), and the crazy womaniser jokes… “I thought Christmas only comes once…” for a pre-Craig example, in the the last one I think. Or Octopussy…. as the movie’s title. That crap wasn’t going to work. As an Omega watch fan, this was the first film where the Omega watch told the time… and that is it.
My mother has never had any serious opinion on any movies. She´s the casual viewer, like the lady who plays Candy Crush. Oh but when Daniel Craig was announced as the new James Bond, I remember her saying "But Bond has dark hair! How can he be blonde now??"
It's amazing how different he looks here from his actual appearance in Casino Royale.
Looked better here, more like Bond than he did in the movie
Exactly right.
He look so young. He aged fast.
henry cavill would've been great
I never really loved a Bond movie till I saw Casino Royale with Daniel Craig. I got through the entire movie and found myself wishing it would just keep on going.
same
You must be a chic
Wow not even Sean Connery.... then again I'm old lol
I really loved Bond until he came.
It was the director.
People can say whatever they want but this guy made Bond better. Before him bond was a joke. A caricature. When I watched Craig I was immersed in the danger that came with Bond's job.
And now it’s fucking ruined!
Roger Moore made no secret of playing Bond as a joke. He said it had to be comedic and over the top. Not the Connery did it.
Bond is supposed to caricature.
Spot on
You exaggerate. It's too simplistic to dismiss the first 20 films as caricature. But you are probably just ignorant.
Most of the scenes you see in the Craig movies are variations on scenes from previous Bond movies. The basic first-act formula - as used during the Craig films - was introduced already in Die Another Day with Bond being captured and then have to go on a personal mission before he "becomes" Bond. Campbell directed GoldenEye 11 years earlier and lots of stuff is reused for Casino Royale, including how Bond is written.
In terms of quality, the Craig films covers the whole spectrum if you go by the general consensus from fans. From the very best to the very worst. Sort of like the Moore films. And the Connery films. And the Brosnan films. So what has changed really? And what will you say when we are 5-10 years into the next Bond Era?
Babs was infatuated with Daniel Craig. It's clear she fancied him. Why she wanted him. After that she would do anything, even giving in to his demands to ensure she kept him.
That "I don't really want to be here but I am so duty" vibe works extremely well in this iteration of Bond.
It's the way he carries himself here - and the voice, which may well have clinched it.
Sounds like he clinched it before he carried himself here
Not a bond fan but he's owned the part and I've seen all of them. Thanks Daniel
"Not a bond fan"
"Seen all of them"
Which is it
It's his great physique and unmatched combat acting skills that carried him through the franchise.
Yes. That was the most boring part for me. No gadgets, no womanizer but brute force. Urgh. Good this bond is gone
This was after The Layer Cake and so it was obvious he could do the role.
It's noteworthy that he has that Brosnan look at these videos, but he shaped his own Bond down the road.
I was just thinking the same thing!
Craig's style of Bond was very similar to Timothy Dalton's
Brosnan did cheer Craig up after facing the tension from the audience, so
Henry Cavill would be a better Bond.
Craig back when he still looked human.
Honestly I think turning Bond into a muscle bound super hero type instead of a suave Englishman was a serious miscast.
Nothing wrong with Craig, he just wasn’t the right man for the job. But he did look more suited to it during the screen test than after he turned himself into He-Man… 😅
I love seeing screen tests. It’s so interesting to try to see what the casting director sees in the actor‘s potential. It’s such a huge difference to seeing actors after months of preparation in the actual filming of the movie/series
So nostalgic.
I find him more menacing and sinister than ever in this video, his smile seems made of ice
I could play a younger hanibal lecter perfect...
Yeah with the longer hair he definitely has a creepy vibe. Shredded Daniel Craig bond would have a fist fight. This guy would just stick a knife between someone's ribs.
Can we have Henry Cavill's audition, please.
Great performance, hopefully he gets the job 🙏
….?
Go watch layer cake and see the bond before bond
You know my name.
Great film 👍
Fantastic movie
Also worth mentioning that Ben Whishaw (Q) also plays Sidney in Layer Cake. Tom Hardy is also in it but goes unnoticed.
@@gamingflixx Whishaw also plays with Craig in The Trench.
I think the movement and the composure here is very much reminiscent of Connery, but the cold tone of voice and dry sarcasm is really the indication of the version of Bond we'd get in the final movie.
He could be a good bond, he has potential…
But he did turned out to be a good bond, well at least to me 😄, i think casino royale is Daniel’s best bond movie, he did pretty good job for portraying a whole new different bond concept from before, but anyway everyone have different opinion and I respect yours 👍
@@thegamingcook785 HAHAHAHA OMG YESS 🤣 , i just realized it now, it's the usual jokes where it's like you predicting something as if it never happens when it actually already happened, loll idk how to explain it but yess i get it now, thank you and sorry bro for misunderstand your joke @SPECTRE NOIR 😅
@@thegamingcook785 I "and many others knew you were joking it's called a dry sense of humour 🤣
I don't believe this guy could be Bond, too skinny and not blue eyes enough. Maybe one movie and then they replace him.
Pierce Brosnan appeared more like a super rich business man than a spy. Daniel Craig for me is the best actor to play bond.
Well, Brosnan was Bond during a time when people wanted to see exactly that. Some of the movies were more about the gadgets and who plays the bond girls than about Bond. (Like the over the top Bond films with Roger Moore.)
But I think there are some solid stories and Goldeneye is still one of my favorites. But, one usually likes what one grows up with.
The actors can only work with what the producers, writers and directors allow them to work with.
That's true😁
That’s funny, I think it’s Craig that comes across more as a businessman or some adversary for Bond.
Ended up being the best bond ever. I was knocking him before I even watched Casino Royale, in how he doesn’t even look the part. He proved me wrong.
Big daniel Craig fan now
They missed a trick with Clive Owen, he was born to play James Bond.
Yeah, he got classic look of Bond.
Connery and Craig the best of the best. Craig resurrected Bond
"They kept trying to get us to meet people"
Yes, I'll take "Introverts with Anxiety" for $400.
i had to laugh at that 🤭
2006... wow ! So Daniel is now the longest running Bond !! Connery did come back 20 years later for one final role, but it was an "unofficial" Bond movie, he only stayed around 10 years or so as a regular Bond..
That was never say never it was an unofficial bond move hence why lathered wasn’t a gun barrel sequence Connery produced that one he had a part of the bond franchise
Doesn't look anything like that in the movies. Lucky he got the part.
@@thegamingcook785 I'm pretty sure the point of a test footage is to see what the result will be.
He was a great choice. He really revived the franchise.
For sure. I only restart to watch bond movies because him.
worst Bond ever no style , no charisma nothing
@@markjones9020 yeah, to each their opinion, its implied that his acting will not please everybody. I think even my dad would have concurred with you. However, i think you are in a very minority as most of us thinks he did particularly well.
He is so stylish so perfect for bond. But I think if back in the day that we know he will be the next bond. I think I will don’t like him too in that time he doesn’t have a bond look at all. He looks more like villains. But after we all watch casino Royale and he got a new haircut. He becomes my favourite bond ever. So stylish so realistic very good acting. And I think he is handsome. I don’t understand why people say he is not handsome like another bond. He just don’t have black hair.
@@markjones9020 It's a toss up between him and Lazenby.
To be honest, I have no idea how they hired him based on that screen test. His look and that voice were just shocking lol. But I guess that's why casting directors get paid way more than me.
They found him in "Layer Cake," Watch that, and you'll clearly see it.
It's incredible how much Craig aged in fifteen years.

Man, if his Bond had kept that hair, it would be an even more impressive performance, reminds a lot of Timothy Dalton.
I dont want to do it really. She had you when you walked through the door 😂
I take it they saw him in Layer Cake and (perhaps secretly) wanted to use him based on his death scene from Layer Cake and intended for him to die as Bond. In I think it was Quantum, we see Craig exiting a building and killing a guy, I don't know if it was the same building where the Layer Cake character died, but it sure as shit felt like it.
Legend
The transformation was amazing to play the best james bond movie ever .
every bond brought something unique to the role. this version was more physical, but also more relatable in his language and movements, whereas brosnan was more suave, roger more was more gentlemanly cool, and had old world sophistication and answers. connery was a magician almost, with an even calmer delivery than moore, didn’t need to exert so much physicality as he was two steps ahead of the bad guy, with charm and wit, and a trick up his sleeve. basically he was mr reliable even in a serious situation, where craig seems more vulnerable. they all played to their strengths, and bonds strength as well as much as they could. the best bond is all of those things combined, but that’s impossible to achieve with one actor.
i remember when he was first officially unveiled as Bond, pretty sure they had him arrive by boat on the Thames. I was so disappointed that they picked him as he didn't have the swagger or charisma of other actors before him..... however he absolutely nailed Bond, his transformation from the screen test above to Casino Royale is unreal. Easily my favourite Bond. I'm glad he proved me and all the other initial haters wrong! However is up next will have a massive task to follow Daniel Craig!
He has the "look" of bond didn't have to say a word
He looks so different.
yes, totaly. His haircut has a lot to do with it ! He's not James Bond yet at this time.
this was just beta testing,
the recordings and shootings where the alpha,

Aidan MacKay --- Daniel was 40 year's old in 2008. So he looks younger plus hadn't built-up his body muscles yet. He had his hair cut for the Bond movies. Change how he looked.
im dying at his filled in eyebrows. somebody got carried away with the brow pomade
The way he opens and closes the door. That is SO Craig Bond. It's interesting to know he had that from the beginning.
What a great run as Bond and will be tough to follow 👏👏👏
He's fabulous. Craig ♥
The thing i love most about Daniel Craig is he is completely the same character in everything he is in, you could take clips from all of his films and edit them together and wouldn't notice a change, maybe he would be different ages & costumes but that will be all.
That’s a good thing?
It's called not being able to act.
That I feel was a downer for his Bond and what makes him my personal least favorite of the 007 Potrails (Eon only)
He was less of James Bond after awhile and just himself, just Daniel Craig and there's nothing wrong with adding your own flair but he had a huge flair in the first two but it disappeared after Skyfall

It doesn’t even look like him. 😂
he's been a great Bond, he carries himself well in a charming, confident but calculating manner.. as if he's thinking 3 steps ahead!
He was also brilliant in the Girl with the Dragon tattoo!
When I heard that they selected Craig to be the next Bond I drank a toast to him. I knew that he'd kill it.
He was amazing!

Only good thing about my generation is that this guy is our James Bond
Every fanboy and fangirl claims their movie of their time (they were at their peak viewing pleasure) is the best James Bond.
For me it was Timothy Dalton, the seriousness, the realism, no stunts, no silly type puns and unreal scenes or plots in relation to other movies of the series. Next I'd say the original Sean Connery for his acting and smoothness of the delivery.
Dalton is my 2nd fav after Craig. My least fav was Moore. Connery was okay I guess. Olga Kurylenko from Quantum of Solace took first place for the Bond girls.

@@q.h.s5051 I saw my first Bond movie in 1962 at the Roxy Theater in Pacific Beach, San Diego at the age of 8. It was Dr. No and that's when I became a fan so haven't missed one since then. The Catholic Digest had it listed as "sexual content" so my mom gave it a no-go for me. I snuck in anyways not really knowing anything about it other than I wasn't supposed to see it. My dad took me to see it again, so he could come back and report to my mom about what the big deal was. I think I remember him saying something about how all the female actresses tending to be "well endowed" with specific reference to Ursula Andress and her bikini. Those were great times to be alive. Remember the Saturday matinees? I saw the double feature matinee Goldfinger and Mysterious Island all for 35 cents. Layer Cake gave him the practice he needed to land this role
How time flies .
WOW was wondering who the hell that was in the thumbnail. DAMN he changed!
I can see why they chose him. He had that Bond face. He also appeared somewhat "pretty" before his debut, too reminiscent of the previous actors.
He really needed to cut his hair and bulk up in order to become the more realistic and edgy Bond of our generation. Going to be difficult to top.
i loved him as Bond ❤
Thats pretty inspiring. . . Next time your out of your comfort zone just just go with it!
Such a humourless thug, though. It should have been Jude Law.
Whenever I see auditions, I'm reminded how great of vision that casting directors have.
They have. I mean, the actor or actress is not in shape for the movie (maybe for a different one, but still), not in the real costume, no perfect makeup, etc. The scenes might not be worked out that well, the director doesn't know exactly what he searches for. etc.
Sometimes it is a massive contrast and just shows how much all parties involved invest for such a movie.
Oh it’s the hairstyle!
what a difference a haircut makes.
I thought he was tremendous in Casino Royale...the opening scene blew me away and cemented Mr. Craig as the new James Bond for me. Speaking cinematically, I was also very impressed with how tall he always looked, as Mr. Craig is only 5'10" and yet he wears the amazing Italian suits perfectly. BTW, I happen to be how Bond was described in the books: 5'11 3/4" and 178 lbs.
The best bond !
And that's how James Bond auditioned to be Daniel Craig.
And that’s the best bond we ever had!
