Absolutely loved the active Sidus link app on the video! I appreciate these reviews so much!!!!
Whoa! Time to get some SGC, once they got Andrew's attention. Awesome review.
Very nice ,Great video Andrew
Thanks for the review Andrew, as i was interested to see how these tube lights stack up, considering how much has been written about them. They obviously look really good in terms of their colour rendition, plus being a part of the Sidus Link is a massive bonus. I will however probably wait to see what Amaran/Aputure bring out (soon i hope!!). Btw.....i love the fact that you have a rack of products waiting to be reviewed just sat in your garage. Aweome!!!
awesome and thorough review!
Best gear reviews in the industry!
They also have a 240cm version.
I like the choice of replaceable batteries that are cheap with the option of external charging if you need to run them for a long time.
I'd take this every day over a PavoTube
I have them around 1 year. an they great!
Cheers for doing this review. Been intrigued by these for a while. I've a suspicion that another company might be announcing some tube lights soon, so hopefully they'll be at least as good.
Hey there , Who would that be? I'm looking for options for tube lights
@@EIGHTMAG86 Short answer, Aputure. They're constantly being asked when they'll be doing a version of a tube light, and they've always been cryptic with their replies. But in the last few weeks I've seen some replies which hint that some sort of announcement is coming soon. Now whether their first tube lights would be part of the Aputure or Amaran lines I don't know (and how that would affect what features they'd have, or lack is another matter). I'm really hoping they'll announce something soon.
@@gearoidosullivan356 ok then ill wait with buying any other tube lights
Dude! Thank you for that battery tip! I just got the P120 and the lack of battery level indicator was killing me!
I owe you a beer if you are ever on the Gold Coast ❤️
Battery tip?
@@ralphgeronilla 7:12 in the video. If you hold the black button, it shows the remaining battery.
Yep that’s it!
You’re my go to lighting reviewer for no BS. Please include comparison these these lights specifically if/when you review the new Amaran tubes from Aputure. Curious about battery life and lux between these two Sidus compatible lights. Keep it up!
I agree! Curious as to how they compare
Been waiting for this review for a while! The lights seem too good to be true, but I guess it isn't!
It seems like a much better buy compared to the Pavotubes!
Yes I have tested both and ended up returning the Nanlite and getting 2 P120 a year ago. Just about to upgrade to their 4 light Gaffer kit. Really enjoyed using them.
I'm 100% agree that tube should have lighting surface from start to end. I hate this black ends on tubes. When I see good tube but with such thick ends I'm really angry. :)
These are very similar to our Ledgo Altatube’s but the Sidus link feature is definitely a great feature. Wondering if they are licensing with Aputure to make that happen.
Aputure have sold them in their office store online in China before
What i believe is that Aputure sold SG a component part of the tubes for manufacturing. I think what annoyed Aputure is that SG kept saying that the light was a co-design between Quasar Science and Aputure.....which it clearly wasn't.
@@reynoldsc Hey fun fact- it actually was designed by the Quasar Science team and further developed by Aputure/Sidus Link.
Things got complicated when there was a buyout of Quasar Science by Vitec.
Aputure had exclusive rights to distribution in China but not the US-
and now long story short- SGC is its own company.
@@ProfessaJ Are you the owner/CEO of SGC ???
👍🏾🙏🏾
Thank you Andrew for the thorough review again!
There are quite a lot of options around in tube land. However it's not so easy to choose which to go with.
How do you think these SGC Prisma tubes compare to the GODOX TL tubes?
Also, since Astera is quite the industry standard when it comes to tubes. How do you think SGC Prisma, Godox TL and Nanlite Pavotubes compare to the Astera's?
Do you sometimes mix different brands of tubes? Or would you dare to mix Astera's and Godox tubes for example?
I'm looking into a small set of tubes (2 to 4 tubes). I can buy a used Astera tube from someone at an interesting price, but it's a single tube. Going for a set of them is not possible as new tubes are too expensive for my use case. That's why I'm asking about mixing brands. By the way, I just discoverd a brand called Nexili with the Valo T tube. These can be connected to form a longer tube. I thought these might interest you since you dislike having a large black piece at the end of the tube.
What would you recommend? Anything unofficial to wait for? DMX is not really important to me. Color accuracy, brightness, Kelvin range, etc. is.
I went with Astera, but just because of the CRMX. I use the pixel mode about once a year.
Finally a good review about SGC. Replaceable batteries are intriguing. Quasar RGB lights don't have built-in batteries either. In the real world case, how practical are they? Do built-in batteries break down quickly?
All lithium batteries have a limited number of cycles. Eventually they will all run out.
@@luisa9628 which is good they are $50 replaceable I guess
The batteries in my Pavotubes are starting to show signs of aging. But they are,3 years old now
@@gaffergear My initial reaction was all plus, no minus. But looks like it depends on the quality of the lights, how heavy the usage is, and availability of replaceable batteries. Thanks for sharing your personal experience with the battery life on your PavoTubes.
You should take a look at these suckers: Godox Litemons LA200D
Wondering if Aputure would realease the Aputubes...
Do you think these are better than the first nanlite Pavo tubes ? Are they flicker free ?
Yes and yes
Interesting, but confusing. Is SGC part of Aputure? If not, do you know why they able to use the Apture Sidus link app? Are these officially supported by Sidus Link? Will the app stop working for these lights at some point in the future?
And does this mean that Aputure is not working on their own tube lights?
Aputure partnered with Quasar to develop these for the Chinese market originally I believe. They were sold on Aputure's official store in China at one point. Previously I have had my SGC P120 serviced in the US and the address I ship to is the Quasar Science LA headquarter. Not sure how things have changed since Quasar got bought by Vitec.
@@ZimingXie Thanks for the insight. Would need further clarity on this before considering these lights. Most especially, whether there will be long term support of these by Sidus link.
Aputure is making their own tube lights. They’ve been very coy about it but if you look at their fb group you’ll find more info.
@@MrJayColes yes it’s under their Amaran brand so I’m wondering if it’s going be nerfed in some features like dmx
@@MrJayColes Thanks. Will likely wait for those.
What do you mean if your start desaturating this light ? What's desaturating mean ?thanks
Reducing the vibrancy of a colour by mixing white light in.
@@gaffergear thanks
SGC lists these lights as having wireless DMX512 control built in - is that incorrect?
I didn't come across it in the menu system. Definitely no crmx link/unlink options anywhere.
