Good to see the 4th gen back! That is the most sludge I have ever seen in that reservoir. I'm really surprised that car wasn't having overheating issues as they already run hot from the factory
First of all good instructions on the video. With that being said and also being around these cars for a long time it's not recommended to mix regular antifreeze and Dex cool. If you didn't drain the block you will have a mixture and as said above the Dex cool will gum up the system. Not sure how you filled the system back up since you didn't show that part, but if you filled it up through the radiator and you didn't bleed the system with the bleeders it will have air trapped. This is not a good idea if it's a younger driver driving the car. A small tidbit to anyone that hates bleeding the system you can remove the thermostat and fill the system up through the water pump and you won't have any issues with air in the system. It's basically backfilling the system when you do it this way. Keep the content coming, and I would choose the iroc since I already have 2 Fourth Gens.
You can mix Preston yellow with Dex with no problem. You don’t want old green coolant (IAT) mixing with dex. You can’t find old IAT at stores these days anyway. Most of the coolants are glycol based now and dex is also glycol based. Also 4th z28 all has bleeder screw on the main hose line to the top of the radiator which he forgot to bleed until coolant trickled out after all the air is gone first. It’s just that he didn’t do a complete flush.
I wouldn’t pay $10k for one. There are way too many that are also nice and a lot cheaper. Then again, I paid $1500 for my 93 Z28 13 years ago with 130k on it. And it needed nothing. Then again, after owning mine as long as I have, I’d go with the IROC for lots of reasons. Was actually looking at 3rd gens when I found my 93 Z28 and bought it cause it was a good deal and every 3rd Gen I looked at was a POS.
Was this running Dexcool? That’s why I got rid of Dexcool. It’s known to gum up the cooling system over time especially if it is mixed with other types of coolant. I had Dexcool in my 01 Trans Am and my 95 Caprice 9C1. Flushed and went back to green coolant and water.
If will gum up only if you use old IAT green coolant. Not glycol base Preston yellow/green. Both dex and Preston’s are glycol based. Perfectly fine but you will have to change coolant after 30K or 2 years if you have mixed it. This information is on GM dex/Preston mix bulletin board.
@@ReynoldsRides right on. If you do bleed it, you've probably seen to put a good sized rag under the bleeder screws so it don't drip on the opti. Also, don't let it get caught up in the belt. It may be worth bleeding just in case, opening both screws, let them squirt, and close when it's a steady stream. Probably don't get as many air pockets when just draining the rad and res.
*I am bias on the Camaro because I have a 1976 Camaro but, I stated watching before the Camaro. At the end of the day, you do you and I hope people understand that; tbh, I wouldn't have sold a Z28 to a young driver but, oh well. I vote for the 1994 Z28 because of the power but, the 3rd Gen's are super cool.*
Thank you very much for the explanation in your video, I hope you can do one of how to repair the air conditioning or how to repair the horn, best regards.
Have you tried the paper clip trick? With ac compressors, they won’t kick on if your freon is low and you can’t fill your freon if the compressor is off. To get past this you can jump the compressor fuse while filling it back up. I believe it is the furthest to the left and top left pins on the relay that need to be jumped with the paper clip. This was the issue on my 97 and many other older chevys I helped fix.
When putting the radiator flush in, do you need to put the drain plug back in as you run the car? And after running it for like 5 minutes take the plug back out to drain the flush?
excellent video how many types of dex cool is there? I maybe confussing the trans. fuild where each year added a newer version for the trans. I have a 99 LS1 TA please recomend both cooling fluid & trans. fluid. btw get the LT1 w/ sp the irco no where near the power.
nice work, can i ask you a question on a 2007 camaro v6, i am working on it for a friend and it has antifreeze in the engine oil and oil in the radiator. i am aware that in the old school engine, this could mean a head gasket, or maybe a crack in the engine it self. but i am told on these newer car's it could be a bad gasket or oring on one of the added on parts of the engine, like where the heater hoses connect to the engine, if you guys ever heard of this before pls help by comments thanks
How much would insurance run me a month as a 18 year old im thinking about getting a 96 or 97 z28 and i know its cheaper when your 25 but roughly tho how much do you think they would charge me
Talk to your insurance agent. Only they would know. Honestly my insurance was cheaper when I was a teen on my own insurance driving a 73 AMX then it is today with my 93 Z28. Then again it was 20 years ago and I live in a county that in general the insurance is higher. When I moved to anther county for a few years, my insurance cost dropped by a $100 every 6 months. Went right back up when I moved back into the county I lived in before. Lots of factors go into your insurance rates (not just driving record, but also age, location, employment status, education and even credit score). Though they will never tell you everything.
My 93 will randomly decide not to turn on unless I press the gas as it cranks. It turned off on me randomly and did not want to start even if I pushed the gas. Next day it turned on. Any ideas? And you want to take care of that dash on the Camaro, it breaks easy.
‘88 Iroc or ‘94 Z28?
94 Z28 that color is nice
94z28 for sure !
94 Z28 and do a full fluid change and add LS1 brakes and a GMMG exhaust
Too much $ for that IROC
I would go with the 4th gen at 10k as they are soon to be coming up in value
ANother z28 for sure
Good to see the 4th gen back! That is the most sludge I have ever seen in that reservoir. I'm really surprised that car wasn't having overheating issues as they already run hot from the factory
Thank you, I spent 1 hr trying and your video got me through it in 25 minutes
I can’t stop watching these videos

Money is always an issue so maybe go for the 94 z28 and be very happy with it!

Best radiator flush video I've seen for the 4th Gen Camaro! Good job dude.
Thanks!

It could have been. The coolant was just so brown and nasty that it was hard to tell what it was.

Did you consider pulling the plug and knock sensor on the block and do a complete flush?
Also, I may have missed it, did you bleed the system?
No. Been driving the car, watching the temp, and topping off as needed. Haven’t had any issues.

This is so cool ! Gonna changed the coolant sensor and tank asap ! Thanks a heep
👍

Did you use distilled water mixed with the radiator flush or regular tap water?
Perfect video! Just got my 2nd 4th gen, a '96 Z28, and it needs a coolant flush BAD.
Thank you so much dude! 💯
Quick question, did you bleed out the system by removing the screw that’s in front of the alternator?
No. Been driving the car, watching the temp, and topping off as needed. Haven’t had any issues.

What would be the best app to find specifically 4th gen camaros ? Ive tried offer up and face book market place lmk
You didint bleed the air out of the coolant system?
Great video. Gotta do this to my 94 T/A and this video is just what I was looking for
just bought a 1997 camaro the radiator has brown residue i got a fluf kit do i have to remove the therostat
Lucky for me, I had to replace the coolant tank as the front battery hold down tab was busted off. I still need to flush the entire system though.
Lets fucking go!!!! Camaro back on the channel been waiting for this

Have a 96 with a v6 my car used to run at like 180 but after flush it runs right in the middle help
did you also add water with the flush
That sludge could be oil in the coolant. This car possibly has the oil cooler lines and could they could be leaking into the radiator.
The coolant has stayed green since the flush so I think we’re good.
Why did you sell it? Just curious.
Hey, you probably won’t see this because this was a while ago, but do you have any idea where I can find a coolant reservoir cap with the stick on it?
Try eBay, Hawks Motorsports, or Classic Industries.
If you aren't going to junk yards for parts like that you ain't living my man.
Love the camaro videos! Do more!
did you have to remove the therostat
8:32 Beautiful Read End! 🤩
Mine is been overheating and the radiator is really built up with a lot of brown sludge.
id rather buy the 94, its way faster and with that 6 speed more fun to drive
Why would you skip the part of you adding more coolant in? Doesn’t even show if I need to add to the radiator or just the reservoir
Id love to do this but I cant the radiator cap off
I have a 94 Z28 and had a 1990 IROC. I’d choose another IROC. ❤️ 350 engine though
where did the temp gage sit at on this when its upto temp i think mines running hot its one with the 6spd borg warner
I would choose the Iroc
👍👊

I would consult a forum on facebook
Most annoying thing is the coolant reservoir is black and not translucent so you can never really see how much coolant is in that overflow bottle
94 Camaro! 🙏🏻
5:42 sometimes you can clean it. give it some borrowed time.
Looks like panning for gold!
Yep! I wish it was.
Great informational video bro 👌🏾💯
4th gen with an LS1 :p
My 99 has sludge in it. I need to flush mine.
The 88 Mullet Machine. And also that CRX behind the Foxbody looked like a gem too
Yes!
The 88 iroc I already got a 2001 gen 4
The 88 especially if money is not the issue
I would go for the 88 iroc
if it had the ls1 id go with the 94, but i dont think they started putting them in for a few years later. so IROCZ IT IS. DONNIE IRIS 4 LIFE.
Just unplug the sensor - they fail all the time, even back in the 90s on low mile cars we left them unplugged.
I have sludge & I temp gauge isn't working 😤
IROC-Z all the way. However if the LT1 was done up right like cam good heat and a.c. tough choice. Then it would come down $ price lol.
The '88 IROC!
i have a 95 Camaro V6 it says dex cool on the sticker so use that
If money weren't an issue, out of those two cars, I'd go with a '59 Cadillac Eldorado.
Ha! You would 😉.
94 Z28
Gm Dex Cool only people refusing to put the correct coolant in
Iroc
94 z28
that gold flake is head gasket fix in a can lol. sucks dude.
‘98 trans am >
IROC
Blue devil is bad for your car
Iroc
Iroc
