@@PinkyPuff69 that is exactly how I feel. I get emotional just thinking about it. I've seen a ton of films of all kinds from all eras, and all genres, but this film tops the lot. I doubt it will ever be superceded. It's unique. And it got there first. It will remain unforgettable and will become a classic. It will be a 'must see' for film directors, let alone your public audience.

I just watched it on Netflix. I wasn't expecting much. By the time it was done, I had tears running down my face and I was so moved. I guess I'm guilty of thinking an octopus must just be a dumb, small brained under water critter. How could I have known they had such intelligence, and a capacity to love a human and reach out to him !

@Be Frank Use less of your selfish pleasure trap and more of your willpower to satisfy your appetite.
Just 55 percent of the world's crop calories are actually eaten directly by people.
Another 36 percent is used for animal feed. And the remaining 9 percent goes toward biofuels and other industrial uses.
Livestock takes up nearly 80% of global agricultural land, yet produces less than 20% of the world’s supply of calories. A 30-cow herd would consume one 900-pound round bale per day.

Daughter and I in UK, watched last night on the advice of elder daughter based in Johannesburg. It is a coastline very familiar to me, for it was the place of my childhood. Always said, Africa and in particular the south, are the worlds scenic and wildlife jewels in Earth's crown, but, nothing prepared us for what we were about to view. Can honestly say, not ever have we been moved to the depths of our core as humans, than by the communication of 'she octopus'. The human inhabitants of the world need to see this, they need to understand and connect with all our fellow sentient beings, if, we as humans, are to survive the destructions we have wrought upon our mother Earth. A cinematography wonder of the highest order, inspiring, educational, but most of all, the ability to demonstrate the empathetic connectivity between human and unconsidered fellow being, though not now. Shared worldwide with grateful thanks to the communicator Craig Foster and team who understood the enormity of the effect.

Your film Ms. Ehrich has changed my life with a new perspective of wildlife on the ocean floor. I was touched spiritually and emotionally with this octopus which instilled within me, a newfound love and respect for all living sea creatures. You've done an outstanding job of teaching, connecting, and inspiring profound awareness within me and for that I'm extremely grateful. I hope you direct more films about our animal family members in the sea. You're an excellent filmmaker.

Beautiful, touching, soulful and a beautiful bonding of a human and an Octopus. There is communication that goes beyond speech, it is one of the heart. What was beautiful was when she actually reached out and completely trusted him ...it was a beautiful surrender. In a way they both went through the same emotions. Such a short life but left behind a story and memories to be cherished.

It astonishes me that the main driving forces of this documentary were so inexperienced. But then I realise that the pureness and rawness of the final film may be partly down to this.
Even the guy who composed the music. Stunning. I'm responsible for half of the youtube views of all the music from this documentary, I'm sure!

The title intrigued me. I watched it the first time about a month ago on a whim of curiosity. Immediately called my family and friends. " I want to give you a present: My Octopus Teacher." Since that first viewing all others (at least 10) have been quite intentional. Each time I see or hear something new, and am just as breathlessly drawn to the story as I was the first time. At the same time it's very familiar and comforting it's also brand new and exhilarating. It gives me such hope to witness the incredible journeys of the octopus teacher and his pupil, David Foster. Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing your magnificent story.

I must say this Movie was constructed with top level quality that really educated you about the incredible world of one of the most beautiful ocean invertebrates. It was so Truly most Incredible. I Could not believe what I was seeing and the exchange between the diver and the female Octopus was so mind blowing in how it shows you how we are truly connected and how this respect and connection has to be protected at all costs. The documentary story itself was so profoundly educational it struck a deep emotional cord within me that as the film was nearing the end I was in such emotional distress with tears streaming down my face, I could not focus and I had to stop the film and get my composure. When it was completely over, it left me wanting to know more about these incredibly intelligent creatures. It did remind me of a trip out in the Ocean in a viewing submarine off the coast of Hawaii in the late 1980's where we actually got up close to an Octopus and was able to view it for quite a little while until the creature decided that we were intruding on its space and dashed off spewing ink as it jetted away. Just wanted to say it is wonderful and Heart warming to see the projects that you guys are working on and how you are making everyone aware of the Kelp Forest and how the animals in it live, breed and die. Keep up the great and notorious discussions and documentaries Thanks so much !!! Southern Florida Nelson Johnson

As a freediver I respect what these passionate people were able to put on film... The Kelp Forest is an enchanting place. A number of times I've tried to explain what it's like to be in it, this film brings me back to the good old times when Sonoma counties kelp forest was lush and abundant. Sadly, Sonoma counties kelp Forest has vanished, consumed by the sea urchins ( the little purple spiny things) . The bottom of the sea here in Sonoma county coast looks like a Dr Seuss movie.
This film has substance and should be witnessed by everyone. The life cycle of an octopus and its intelligence what amazing science.
Thank you and I hope you can continue your work this is something I will support with a donation. Great job mates.

Was glad to see your concern on the numbers of sea urchins in this film. I live on Vancouver Island on the Pacific Coast of Canada, and we have also had kelp forests devastated by the urchins. As with the crown of thorns on the Great Barrier Reef, divers are going out to reduce the numbers and hopefully protect these beautiful forests. Free diving through these wonders of nature is totally gobsmacking and have had the priviledge of being able to do it since I was a child

One corner of the success of the documentary I think is that it was an under water landscape. I don't know how much it's been altered or affected by human activity, but on land except in probably a few almost inaccessible pockets on the planet, it would've been hard to make such a film on land where all the wild plants and animals were still able to interact as they had done for thousands of years and the diversity remained without destruction from a huge human presence. Craig's commitment to going down into this kelp forest every day and learning and observing so much about this virtually undisturbed world certainly brought home to me all the diversity lost on land around me in my lifetime and it's so sad. So many species of plant and animal, insect and bird are just.. Gone.. and many of them just in the past 15-20 years in my area in Ireland. There is no area on land where multiple wild species of plant and animal can exist like in this Kelp forest in balance anymore... and it's survival is only because humans have left it alone. The beauty of it reminded of what I have lost in the natural world around me. And the dignity of that octopus! How she accepted both her life and her death... And that beautiful final embrace.. two living beings acknowledging each others existence and accepting each others mortality. Sincere thanks to all involved creating this stunning documentary.

It's so weird but i can't stop thinking about the Octopus and this film. I keep wondering what level of consciousness she had and what she thought about the relationship with her human friend. I know it sounds silly but this octopus was 100x smarter than any dog i've had in my life and we treat our dogs like people don't we. Only thing i found upsetting is how he didn't want to interfere with nature at the end! I'm sorry but we humans are just as much a part of nature as the animals and if my dog was in pain or in danger of dying then i could not sit back and watch. Excellent film though, an emotional rollacoaster.

I thought the same. She was gonna die either way why not hold her. 😭🥺
