    Have 325km now on my edge. Midsole still feels very alive. Im very surprised of how durable this is for a supershoe. The yellow paint on the medial side is removed after 200km but otherwise the upper has never changed. The fit has never changed as well. My legs felt great after every long run. Thanks always for your consistently comprehensive reviews!

      Again, this issue was a “me” issue. This she is very durable and I’ve been seeing people getting great use out of it. I agree, once the shoe broke in around 40-50k it has been remarkably consistent.

    I was wondering how you were getting along with your 5K training plan. I would definitely say 3:26 min/km is fast! Certainly a lot faster than my current tempo pace (5:25 to 5:30, yup, I'm slow), but I'm not aiming for a sub-20 5K.😅 Good news is my base pace has increased since I started the speed plan and tempo runs no longer feel as challenging. Will have to look for a 5K race to test myself.

    • @SagasuRunning

      I'm still on it, mostly, at least doing 5k/speed focused workouts. It took a bit to get out of the marathon mindset of volume but I'm there now. The summer heat definitely helped keep me in check on volume.
      I've had SO many shoes to test though, mostly trainers, this summer. That and the heat, we are having the hottest summer on record here in Taipei (like many places) so it's been busy.
      I'll do an update video in Sept on my plans for the 5K and the fall...I'm definitely staying speed focused for the rest of 2024 and likely 2025...but I'll talk about how this all fits in with my longterm goals and the marathon...
      Stay tuned.

    I ran a half marathon in these with no issues. Walking in them is unstable but i have no issues when running in them. For context i was 100kg when i ran the half. I agree i wouldn't probably run anything more than a half in them as my pace for a manathon would be too slow. However I've never ran a marathon anyway.

      Running is mostly fine for me too…. Flat and good pavement is no issue… but anything other than that they are tippy. The VF3 is more stable due to the sink and the AP3 is more stable due to the width.

      Maybe as I am heavier I sink more into the forefoot. Thats why I prefer them to the Sky. The Sky kept me on the heel/midfoot and put strain on my Achilles. The same as the Sky Plus did. @@SagasuRunning

      @@SagasuRunning 75kg sounds light to me. I was 82-86kg when I was a Cat2 cyclist. I was 68kg out of peace corps but that really messed me up for several years.
      I don't have a scale and I don't use weight as a fitness metric but I'm sure that I'm ballpark 95kg right now. So thats +25%.
      The shoe materials scale more or less linearly though in the ballpark of 1.25x the actual mass of the size 9, but the ground reaction forces do not scale linearly. They scale with something like 5-8x body weight or so I'm told (I don't have a definitive reference). But assuming that is true the forces interacting with the shoe for me are not 1.25x what you experience. It's more like 6-10x but the contact patch of my foot strike is also larger with the square of the linear size increase, so around 60% larger.
      I'm not sure how this nets out but it does mean sometimes shoes have a very different character at a larger size.

    I’d be really interested in the Sky Paris review. I’ve enjoyed the Magic Speed 3 and use the Endorphin Pro 3 as my race shoe. Both have the low plate configuration, but looking at my Garmin metrics, I have a greater percentage gain on my stride vs cadence when running a workout or race. So that has me interested in the Sky Paris for a different feel from the rest of my rotation.

    If you liked the Edge Paris so well then I would urge you to give the Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 3 a try. It is VERY similar to the Edge Paris, but the plate has ever so slightly more flex to it, a more stable platform (still very neutral) and the aliphatic TPU nitro Elite foam is just slightly softer and resilient. I have both and am really torn which are going to be my shoe for Chicago Marathon (2:50-2:58 ETA, 77kg, 6’ just for context).

    Thanks for doing this video. Your take is interesting for sure. Last weekend I got to demo this shoe on a 17k long run and I agree it's a seriously fast shoe. The demo pair I used were likely quite broken in because the foam was very compliant, yet still responsive, even at my long slow distance paces. It wasn't firm or harsh at all (compared to my Sky+), so maybe it keeps getting smoother as it breaks in. The rocker geometry and low plate really moves. If you do get the Sky Paris, I'll be very interested to hear how that does for you.

    As much as I liked the foam, the fit didn't work for me. They hurt my arches after only a couple of miles. I understand the arch hasn't been built up, so it might be that it's narrower midfoot. I had this problem with both the Sky and Edge Paris. I don't have this problem with their Novablast, Magic Speed, and more. I've been using Asics for four decades and they've always fit me well, until the Paris. Have you heard that elsewhere?

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  4 місяці тому

      I haven't seen this much in discussions on the Metaspeed Paris series. But the combination of the narrow last/shoe, lower arches and high platform overall would do that to the foot. The NV4 isn't as narrow and has alot of support built in, so did the MS3 compared to the metaspeeds and it was lower to the ground. Metaspeed fit is very much an edge case for Asics and their fits overall.

FF Turbo+ holds up ok, but FF Turbo holds better, I actually prefer FF Turbo after about 150 miles on both Metaspeed Sky/Metaspeed Sky+/Superblast compared to pairs under 150 miles. With FF Turbo+ I preferred it when shoe was new. And while I have you on this thread I actually must say something I don’t agree with you regarding Asics foams. I actually think FF Blast Eco in Novablast 4 dies even faster than regular FF Blast in Novablast 3 did. My NB3 was fine up to 150 miles and then started to fade out. But I have two pairs of Novablast 4 and the pair that just pasted 100 miles feels completely dead compared to my new pair of NB4. Still quite soft, but dead. In addition I would like to point out that the TR version (of both 3 and 4) feels significantly softer due to the added height of rubber under the trampoline pad extending both the dampening and spring effect.

    I tore the uppers on a couple of pairs of Streak LT 3, 2 pairs Adios 7, and 3 pairs of Boston 11 doing intervals but I don’t think I have ever pulled the upper off of the lasting board like that.
    I just looked at a few shoes in my closet and my sense is the forefoot is usually significantly pyramidal in cross section when viewed from the fron - particularly the Adios Pro 3 and the Takumi Sen 10. The Paris in your video seems quite rectangular. I think that is a geometry design to stabilize the shoe. I’m sure there is some cost in weight but it seems functional and maybe a design flaw for ASICS to work on.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  5 місяців тому

      Yes…. There is usually some type of flaring form the footbed out to the heel, especially on super shoes. The Metaspeed have always been bowed and now in the Paris series they are very straight. It makes the ride very nimble but you pay for that instability. On flat and smooth pavement you don’t notice it at all you feel is the nimbleness and agility. On any other type of pavement…. It can be a handful.

    Same outsole wear pattern for me: mid-foot, outer touch-down with slight supination, then slight pronation. After 500 Km, the forward outer half of each shoe’s ground to the foam.
    Hence, I always wondered why Asics put the forward triangle of exposed foam at the outer on their Magic Speed 3 and 5.

    Will be interested to hear your thoughts on the Sky Paris when/if you do get around to it. I bought the Edge after watching your reviews and trying both on in store. I personally found that one would need to put a lot more power down to the ground in order to get the most ‘bounce’ benefit from the Sky, otherwise it feels flat and harsh. In direct comparison to the AF3 with the high plate configuration, I think I was able to get that massive ‘bounce’ feeling because of how much softer zoomX is as well as the cutouts that the shoe has as opposed to the Sky - keen to hear your thoughts on this.
    The edge on the other hand was aggressive with falling over feeling that helps propel me into the next stride rather than bounce, but there’s the big chunk of foam between my feet and the plate which was soo nice

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  5 місяців тому +1

      The Sky is a much firmer platform than the AF3 and does take a lot more force to get the same amount of “bounce” out of the high plate configuration. However the Sky Paris and AF3 are the only two shoes they truly have this configuration so it would be interesting to compare them head to head.
      The Edge Paris is exactly what I want this shoe to feel like though. When I’m up on my toes and have a clean foot strike they really sing. The stiffness of the plate and low compliance of the foam work well… though can feel a bit harsh coming from a VF3 or TS10.

      Really the Takumi 8 separated on you? Those seemed exceptionally tough uppers. I remember that they were a short distance kind of a shoe but had that nifty Japanese plastic spike outsole which was really good for dirt road or grass. I think they would have been great for Cross Country.

    I'm a forefoot runner, have both the MT sky paris and SB2 paris. Although they both have the FF Turbo+ but the MT sky have so much energy return while SB2 not so much, it even feels abit sluggish if you ran at low speed. Funny how much difference having a carbon plate stuffed into it makes. Or may be it's just the positioning of the plate in the foam idk. I don't have the MT edge so i cannot comment on it. As for the SB2, i felt that your easy pace need to be at least 6min/km or faster in order to maximize its advantage, it is not a slow shoe.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  5 місяців тому

      Agree on this and agree on the pace range to get the most out of the SB2. It’s not a shoe that likes slow easy running. It’s a training tool.

    • @slashdotdash1

      I’ve found the Superblast 2 feels best when heel striking as it has a huge chunk of foam at the heel. Not so great for mid to forefoot running strike.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  5 місяців тому

      It certainly is fun the heel strike it on long downhills… maximum bounce and saves the legs. Though normal forefoot striking I don’t find a huge issue. It’s just too much foam for normal use per my tastes. But when it’s right… it’s really right!

  • @cortneywebb1677
    @cortneywebb1677 5 місяців тому

    I got a question for you. What do you think about instead of using nylon plated shoes for workouts and what not if you use your old carbon racers that are still good but not up to the standard you would put them in a race in?

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  5 місяців тому +1

      That's is what I typically do for marathon builds. I'm usually have 2 trainers and 2 carbon plated shoes. One trainer and CF shoe will be new and the other two wil be older pairs that are softer and more worn in. I use the new shoes for faster/more important runs/workouts and the worn in shoes for the bulk of the training. I've done this for years.
      Right now though, I'm not training for any race. Just working on speed, as a long term goal. It's also giving me a reason to test and push super shoes (as much as mu ability can) and compare plated and no plated shoes for workouts.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  5 місяців тому +1

      Likely. However, beyond the Vaporfly 1 & 2, which it was a well documented and known issue, I’ve never had this problem in any other shoes form any other brand.
      In this pair it’s a fluke, combined with the high and narrow platform and the unique forces I put on the area.

  • @fantaflesdopke
    @fantaflesdopke 5 місяців тому

    Unfortunately, I think your right with that root cause analysis ... The weakest point took the beating, likely because of that "quirky" foot strike in combination with a pretty stiff construction. Call it a stresspoint? Maybe the Metaspeed Sky would suffer less from this, as the plate is at a very different position? Meaning the compression and torsion would happen below the plate, instead of above it and close to where the upper is attached. Anyway, still great shoes!! ;-)

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  5 місяців тому

      Yup, this is also something I'm curious about. The plate is slightly wider on the Sky Paris and the medial forefoot is a little different shape in that area. I'm wondering if that will channel the forces differently. It has my curiosity up for sure.

  • @MrJhockley

    Oh no. I've got mine to 150km. I'm on borrowed time lol. I've not done any speedwork in the shoe. I've only used it for a few 10k and 21k and one 42k. Between 6-7min/mile. My wear pattern is mainly outside heel. Slightly more wear on the left shoe maybe due to gait inblance. Rest of the shoe looks brand new. So far..... I agree it's not very stable. It's like run fast, run forward or go home. Very gentle on my legs.
