The song is arranged by Elaine Hagenberg for female voices. It was inspired by the words of west Minister George Matheson in 1882, While reflecting on his own pain and heartache. The arrangement is characterized by a fresh melody which uses ascending melodies to represent a renewed hope and occasional dissonances to reflect on past heartaches yet one promise remains, "that morn shall tearless be"
The Almasi Chorale performed the piece at their 10th Anniversary concert in 2024.
