I don’t recommend promoted listings if you sell under 10 items a day, I’d just give the promoted listings rate to your customer in the form of a discount. Hopefully this makes sense.
I already start at a discounted rate, but I usually also promote items that arent super hot. If I know an item is gonna sell that week I avoid promoting it.
@@dailyrefinement When I say not super hot, I mean maybe it takes a month or so to sell. If it sits for weeks, then I know its the item or the listing. I like to sell now and price to do so. Maybe some of my promotions arent necessary when I use them, but I'm new enough I don't want to guess that and wait for sales. The majority of the time I'm selling my items on non promoted links anyway, so I think the notion of promotions being wasted money is a half truth. It can be wasted money, but I'd rather make truly hot items the only thing I don't promote. As a new seller I've got 103 actively listed and 113 sold in under two months selling with 2500 in sales (part time), so I think I'm doing ok.
I had a cutco knife I have been trying to sell for almost a year, put it on sale twice. Finally put it at 10 percent promoted and it sold for full price.
I agree that every item has its place. I promote many items but not all. Usually, I promote high-dollar items or ones I have a high markup on especially when I have enough quantity I want to move through quickly. OTOH as he states I am in a particular market and know my items very well. At first skeptical about promotions, but I found they increased sales by 30%. While I like to give my customers a discount, that was not adding up to the same 30% increase in sales. Average 15 items a day on a yearly basis with approx $250K a year gross. Its been a good gig.
Man thank you so much I'm learning so much from you. Like for real. I've always been interested in selling online and I have 32 sold items on ebay and starting to get the hang of it. I have 70 listings and I'm getting 1 or 2 sales a day and gaining momentum. I've been losing sleep planning on how to grow and I went to goodwill today and was picking out alot of women's clothes. I just need a better system of how to reinvest and how to store and ship items
Chris I upped my promoted listings, and was getting constant sales. Havent had any sales in the past two days, but I did pretty good last week. Im at 3-4 sales per day, and promoting my listings is the only way I get a ton of traffic.
Its starting to seem like ebay is getting more greedy in a stealthy way with all these recommendations to increase promotions. I could be wrong but it seems like ebay is trying to manipulate lots of sellers into using a higher percentage of promoted listings and raising the percentage with their "suggestion".. Back when it first started you could have as low as 1% for promoted listings and overtime it kept increasing as if 1-3% won't even matter and you're forced to raise it to their "suggestion" Maybe that's not how it works but it kinda seems like the case.. I even have "suggestions" from ebay to raise mine to an extra 8-10%+ now as if its under 3% it won't ever work. Maybe others are noticing the same thing? Either way I'm now considering removing the majority of my promotions at this point except for a few cause its looking more like ebay being greedy in a stealthy way.
@@MackLee23 I know right. Their greed is getting ridiculous. They might as well just start suggesting 30,40, and 50%.. I mean hell.. why not just have an option to donate all our sales to the eBay lords cause it’s not like we don’t need money or anything.. cause why else would we be selling on eBay. 🤦♂️
Your first example seems flawed in that the 3 sponsored listings are BIN, but the non sponsored listing is auction format…promoted listings work different for BIN vs auctions
Small time seller here. I don’t have 10 sales a day. It doesn’t seem right I have to pay extra to get my items looked at. I have to pay the promoted price up front. So for now I don’t really use it much.
As for me I promote almost everything, but I keep that in mind when I'm sourcing. I pay a dollar or less for my shirts or pants. That way I have enough margins to cover eBay ransom and still make a profit.
I just bought out a video game store and am not offering any discounts or promotions. Getting every penny is a relief after this clothing game of suggested rates, lowball offers and shipping rate increases
Thanks, This got me curious, as I have been promoting my listings to the ebay suggestion, capped at 10% for a couple months now to try and boost sales. One category I sell in is Ties, which suggested promotion is always between 9 & 9.2%, it changes daily. I searched 2 different brands I currently have listed by brand name under "Best Match". Both resulted in not even showing my listings. I then logged out of my account and performed the same 2 searches, The ties did show up towards the bottom of the page after about 50 or so other listings and non of my listings indicted they were even sponsored or promoted. About 50% of sales have been threw promoted, but not sure how much it is actually boosting my visibility, going to try removing it and adding an additional 5% discount on my discount sale instead and see what happens
I spoke to eBay and said it would be better to give the customer the discount. They disagreed and told me that you are better to pay ebay to sell. Seriously, it's a joke.
Are Promoted Listings really worth the Expense?.....I have Sold around 10 sets of Hat Pins & because they are selling Very well, Ebay is Promoting Them for Free! I Think if your Sales Are Going well on Items, it makes Sense that ebay would Promote your items for Free Because More sales= More Profit for Ebay!! What do you think about my Assumption Chris?
Theres something wrong with ebay. I had 5 listings, couple clothing items and some pins. No shoes, Nothing designer. They suspended me, deleted my items and no reason. I havnt even sent a message, no offers to buyers, I havnt tried to buy or bid on anything, I think I opened my account a month ago after watching some of your videos. Now... POOF. (love love love your content!) That being said is there anyone that can help me?
I have my dad’s old 45 records with sleeves. I put up the beetles “can’t buy me love” and i promoted it at 9%. Listed at $500 with $250 as min offer. Almost immediately I was offered $300 and I countered at $400 and the offer expired. Did I make a mistake? Should I put it up for auction?
I'm sorry for being a bit off topic but I keep running into this problem with eBay that is driving me nuts as a buyer. This also affects me and everybody else as sellers. If you type in an item in the search bar and then click search. It will bring up, as an example, 500 items. And then if you change the filter to lowest price first, there will be way less items. It usually cuts it down to about half the amount. Why is this? Is the eBay search algorithm broken?
eBay search is broken. I can look for an item and not find it. instead Womens caps Sponsored from China pop up. Well maybe I have a rare item. I will google search and there it is ibeing sold on eBay. More than a few words in an eBay search will throw it off.
Now That Was Actually Very Useful! I've Been Basically Giving Away "FREE MONEY" To EBay Everytime I Sell A Vintage Item At Their "Recommended" Highest Promoted Listing Percentage‰ (averages now are between 9 &14% eBay recommends for promotions-used to be a lot lower!) ...Which Unfortunately 😢 I've Been Doing the highest % Everytime.🤬👍🇨🇦
@@dailyrefinement I'd remove your comment which can only hurt you and other sellers, we don't need these prices going off roof, you can match the BID and it works. Otherwise you are only escalating costs.

2% across the board works best ever since I started my sales have nearly doubled and about 40-50% of my sales come from promoting listing

What does it mean when an item has a price tag and says plus shipping does it means you have to to pay twice. Eg $45 + shipping

they only charge when u sell
Instead of giving 20% to ebay. Only give 12% and the other 8% you can leverage for a better deal.

Can i list the brand item on my eBay account?? Like Apple, Sony,Samsung
no if you do the GSG 9 is gonna raid you
