Thank you Donegans and Rebel Ninja for all the time, energy, and effort you put in to helping people understand money and improve their lives! Even though we have 20% of our income going to retirement, there is always something to learn and room for improvement! My takeaway from Thursday is to actually go back and categorize what we have spent this past month and to get back to being intentional with spending today. Have a wonderful weekend ❤❤❤❤

Christina you are amazing. A 20% savings rate towards retirement is incredible. Congratulations! Love that you are going back to look at the catagorisation of last months expenses. That is AWESOME. When ever we do it we find things we didn't need to spend, or we can change! It is a good process and fun! YOU ROCK. Thank you for being part of the community!

Many thanks for all the fabulous info. I live in NZ and due to the timezones plus having to do that work thing, only able to watch the recordings. Great reinforcement and reminders of aspects that have been a bit slack with. Looking forward to the next workshop.

I would love to talk to you guys about this gap. I have no issue with putting money away (investing). Most things like property taxes, car insurance and many subscriptions are cheaper (or are required) to pay annually. Given that, you cannot really look at the "gap" by month. But if you are budgeting, you will be saving for those sinking funds and paying them when they are due. It is the reason I am a big believer in paying yourself first and then building your expenses around the remainder. Now, you may be counting savings for sinking funds into the monthly expenses. If so, I am not sure most folks understand that is part of the expense equation.

Hey D Payne, I think it is different ways of looking at things. You do have a gap because you don't spend everything you earn so you are doing well. I think we need to remember this workshop is to get people going on the journey and you are already at a pretty advanced stage looking at your finances like this.
I would also challenge your assumption that you Cannot look at your gap monthly. it is east to split transactions over a year to have a monthly average. Or you don't even need to do that. You can just look at how much came in and how much went out this month. Your first assumption in your message is one I am not sure is true.
I love that you are budgeting and paying yourself first. This is awesome. We LOVE the principle of paying yourself first.

@@rebeldonegans Thanks for the response. I am not sure which is my first assumption as it is mostly assumptions. Having said that, I should have been clearer. I have no problem working out my monthly income vs my actual monthly costs. I am retired and now assist folks (for free) with creating their budgets. Unfortunately, most of them take the monthly gap literally....what came in and what went out, in that month. I try to explain sinking funds and luckily many of them eventually get it. My comment was very much based on having dealt with folks that don't understand money and knowing that the concept of creating a consistent monthly gap can be confusing. I love your RFS, attended all so far (even though I am retired), you are both an inspiration.
