I love these guitars. I think the 339 is very much overlooked and underrated. Just wish there was more color options for these models. Think it would help them sale more
I can’t afford a Gibson, but I already had an Ibanez 335 style, so I modded it with a quality wiring harness (CTS, Switchcraft, & Sprague caps) and Duncan 59s. I plan on using some of this. And maybe someday I can afford a real 335.
I have always loved the 335 and it is always my dream guitar but it seems to be getting over taken by the market now. Like you look at your favourite old movie and go - the newer ones are better….but the love remains but maybe not the future with it in. Happy and sad
i dig that cable~ vintage cables sound just different, people fancy vintage guitars but never think about vintage cable is one of the element of getting vintage sound
Gibson control manipulation 101!Not exclusive to 335s but informative none the less.50s tone control wiring can be a positive factor as well, especially when rolling the volume down[retains highs without the need for a treble bleed]Not mentioned was the wah effect you can get by rolling off the neck tone completely and manipulating the toggle from neck to bridge. Also noteworthy is the perceived resonance boost when rolling off the neck tone completely, putting the switch in the middle, and leaving other controls full up.A creamy, sustainy sound when using distortion.Enjoyed the video!
Ok but can you please tell me how can I get rid of the muddy sound of the 335? I thought les Pauls had muddy sound till I bought A Gibson 335 dot... good luck with that
Ok..I got an Inspired by Gibson Epiphone ES 355…and just a Fender Frontman 20…and I can’t even get close to any of the sound/tones your producing…maybe it’s because I don’t have that high dollar amp?..any suggestions for tone sounds for my setup..for a beginner such as myself at age 61😁
Question on Gibson pickups..... Can I use a Seymour Duncan Trippelshot ring to make use of coil split wiring options like in phase or out of phase? Meaning instead of replacing the pots only adding the pickup rings that has the two little switches ......
The 335 and 339 are very close, my Les Paul has 59 in the neck, it sound different, tighter to my ear. My 339 has a chip on the volume that help keep the full spectrum. Only thing I don’t like, it keeps it from a decent jazz tone. It is a rock monster. 339 clean tone is more acoustic sounding to me. I’d go with the hollow body personally.
My Epiphone SG 400 "1966" on the Neck pickup would sound like the most muddy mess if you rolled the tone down to 4 like in this video. I don't know if mine is as bright on 10 as this guitar on 4. I can't figure out the discrepency - is this guitar wired for 50s vintage wiring harness?
I would assume it’s a combination of the wiring and the pickups in general. I’m just guessing, but I’d assume this has 50s wiring, which helps maintain treble when rolling off on volume. Also epiphone pickups are notoriously muddy and too hot.
Hi Antonio, what amp are you using? I’ve got a new model ES335 with a T-Type in the neck, which is really bright through my Vox AC15. I turn the tone down to 7 and volume to 9. On the bridge (a Burstbucker 2) I have the tone at 5 and volume at 9 and often bring the tone down to 2 if I’m using that pick up alone.
@@AntonioLopez-bc6qgthat’s a fantastic amplifier so I can’t imagine it’s responsible for the dullness. It might be worth trying your ES335 with other amps though to see if it makes a difference. I find the Vox sound is quite bright.
Definitely for absolute beginners, and those who are wondering what sounds a 335 can get! Also for people like me who definitely DON'T use their tone pots enough!

Best guitar on the planet…. I have an ES345 and it does everything. You can see it playing lead on my last cover of White Horse. Amazing instrument
Thanks for watching!

Just got my new ES-335 VB 2 hours ago and I'm so happy with it!!
Posted on Gibson's forum :)
That’s awesome!
Inspired by Gibson Epiphone es335 in olive. Ive owned 3 gibson les pauls, multiple strats, and this guitar is better than any of them. Keeper!
Videos such as this would be better if they included a PDF or an inset video that showed the tone and volume settings at the given time.
@gibson this is a good idea

Happy with my ES-355 Murphy Lab 😊 it goes from jazz to Metal and whatever’s in between 😂.
What color did you get?!
@@gibson BACK IN BLACK!
Thank You for This! Just got a 335 and this video definitely helps!!!
Glad it helped!
Really amazing neck bridge mixing!!
Very helpful, thank you!
You're very welcome!
Great video. I spend so much time learning music and very little learning gear.
Very cool 👍 Great tips on using the control knobs. Thx.
You’re welcome!
This is quite insightful, the knob blending thing. Very cool 🤘
Glad you liked it!
Bravo! You've really impressed me.
I have one of these. Fabulous instrument, beautifully "vocal", play almost any style. All good on the Les Paul and SG as well.
Right on!
Thank you, great introduction for any beginner on the understanding of pickup tone adjustments!
Thanks for watching!
So you can also, using the kill switch, get a funky clavinet sound if you simply hammer notes while working that toggle.
Fabulous guitar ❤
Loved this! Liked and Subscribed!
Assuming this can apply to the Epiphone versions too.
Absolutely!

I have a 60's Cherry ES-345. Cosmetic step up from a 335.
Very cool!
...what are you adding for 'crunch' ?

Is this all with standard modern wiring, or is it 50s wiring?
Good video. 👍🏻

I have the same guitar. It is amazing! Tube amp definitely helps.. check pickup height. I'd say the frontman is probably the weak link.

The music between the guitar demonstrations is distracting and should be eliminated.
Nice tips
Thanks a lot
I’m positive this would be the same with any ES Guitar I have a ES 339 and I’m sure this would be the same thing with Les Paul correct?

You can certainly use this tutorial to help you sculpt tones on any of your ES guitars for sure!
@@fender4brad You can get that smoky stuff from the tone pots.

Great Showcase of what these Guitars can do, a true Swiss Army Knife Guitar, intact I think you should paint one up like that for the demo shop :)
I’ll speak to the team :)
@@gibson Awesome! I'd love to see it on Troglys. That would be my dream sig Guitar! :)
My ES-335 Figured 60’s is so dark! How do I get more of a sparkling clean tone?
Install some splittable humbuckers so you can get a single coil output or get an EQ pedal and crank the highs.
Get a Heritage 535, you won't regret it!

Somebody do a setup on that thang. Dang. String buzzing

Tons of guitarists just plug in flat-out and just use the switch. Tons of them.
Looks a lot like a square & compass, there...
Absolutely horrible sound. Nothing like in reality
