Elvis loved everyone. Elvis once said: "no matter who you are, no matter where you come from - we all come from God". Elvis made regular donations to 50 charities. Elvis knew that God gave him this happiness so that he could make people happy.

The Sweet Inspirations were a group formed by Cissy Houston, Whitney Houston's mother. They not only sang for Elvis, according to Whitney, they sang back-up on all of Aretha's songs, as well as countless other acts in those days. You will find interviews with members of the Sweets here on UA-cam. They ALL spoke highly of Elvis.

But only for a five weeks Engagement .... But the group .... The Sweet Inspirations stayed on with Elvis .... Cissy left because she wanted to be at home with her family .... As Angela Goodwin mentioned, there are interviews with Elvis's back-up singers on UA-cam. In an interview with Estelle Brown she talks about how when one of them called him boss he said "I'm not your boss I'm your brother". She also said "remember the show Touched by an Angel? We was all touched by an angel". That pretty much sums up how they felt about Elvis.

You hit the nail on the head. Some people think he wasn't smart because of his poor Southern background and a high school education. He knew how to talk to people and ingratiate them with his humble ways and self depreciating manner. When it comes to being smart I think this is the greatest form of intelligence. People loved him and therefore bent over backwards to please him and he benefited from that greatly. He made it a win win situation for everyone. Thats a smart man.Vicki

  • @christophertyler3425

Yeah, the Sweet Inspirations were formed by Cissy Houston, Whitney's mother, and Elvis loved them while Cissy loved Elvis. However, Cissy also only did the first long and major gig with Elvis in Las Vegas as she had an opportunity for a solo career and went for it. While with Elvis, as you have probably noticed, he loved a big sound and harmony, plus the best of every musical genre. Hence the reason he had a white male southern Christian group back him in the Imperials and later JD Sumner and the Stamps, and the Sweet Inspirations with him, too. (for that black gospel sound) the entire 8 years he was touring live from 1969 - 1977. He also loved having that orchestra with him as he loved arranging and producing major orchestrations as he so often did.
And this is what made the Elvis Presley show so great to see. As not only did you have Elvis front and center, but you also had top talent in the Sweets and others on that stage and all those voices, combined, could do anything. So, for instance, you also had JD Sumner on stage who during his time with Elvis was in the Guiness Book of World Records for singing the lowest bass note in history. And, the TCB band, comprised of Ronnie Tutt, John Wilkerson, Jerry Shift, and James Burton - his rhythm group - was tops in the country as Burton is considered one of the great guitar players of all time.

Y’all, I gotta say this. Elvis is the most beautiful man, inside and out, I’ve ever seen. I’ve loved for as long as this 47 year old mind can remember. He was so suave and debonair. Just breathtaking. Visiting Graceland was an amazing experience, too. I could feel his presence as soon as I walked through those doors. I swear it felt like the best hug I’d ever had. His body may be gone, but his spirit lingers. God bless, y’all! 💜

💯% locked with you. I've noted that myself too watching this video in the past the way he gets down eye-to-eye I on a genuine respectful level when talking with people...like he did here with The Sweets.
Also, that pretty lady you mentioned in the video is Sylvia Shemwell. Sadly she passed away of cancer in 2010.
But Sylvia and Elvis were close. Actually he was close with all of them. Most Elvis historians never document or cover this very much but all those ladies said that almost every night throughout the 1970s after every one of Elvis' concerts, he would end up spending some time visiting with them either in his hotel suite, or in their hotel suite, before saying goodnight.
(That's over a thousand different nights that Elvis made a point of finding them and telling them goodnight)
He truly was a Class Act.
They weren't lying when they said "he was more like a brother than a boss", or more than just someone that just signed their checks
Also, back in 1970s Sylvia had a cancer diagnosis that understandably she was upset about.
One of the other ladies said when Elvis found out he immediately went to Sylvia asking what he could do to help her out... knowing that she also was a mother with children.
Elvis got right in the trenches with her, praying and crying, paying his own money to have medical specialists flown in to check on Sylvia.
Here's a video right here of Sylvia herself touching on this - if you may ever be interested in doing a reaction video to this.

Elvis was always polite , humble and he saw people as people no matter what race , religion etc as it should be we are all on this wave of life together! Elvis had a really good hear musically and he knew how he wanted the song , if someone was slightly out he would know...on just pretend live vegas 1970 you hear Elvis mid song saying come on man that's because someone goofed in the band ..he picked up on it but to the likes of me who isn't musical couldn't tell ... love your Elvis reactions I'm glad you're going on the Elvis journey I have loved him all my life ( due to my parents especially mum being a fan ). Thank you, for sharing. Yes. Elvis was positively savvy when relating to people. And he was a man of many skills and talents, but unfortunately, the music industry didn't render him the acknowledgments that he deserved. However, his gold, platinum records/albums speak volumes as one of the top-selling recording artists in world history. In the 60s EP was the highest-paid actor in the film industry. Most of his films were box office hits. He was the top paid performer in Las Vegas, NV for close to a decade. He had many friends and associates from the top-down, cross-cultural and respected and embraced ethnic differences. He was humble, a believer that was typically well liked by most. I could go on and on but I'll stop there. #ep4ever

The Sweet Inspirations were a RnB Soul music group who were originally formed as a sessions group as Cissy Houston And The Drinkard Singers, and were discovered by a producer/songwriter and renamed them. They started out with Aretha Franklin and then Elvis called them to come work with him. They loved him so much that they stayed with him from 1969 to his death in 1977. Elvis had a personal relationship with the girl with the big afro named Myrna. He loved her and she even lived at his home in California.

Did u know that Elvis nearly didn't play the Astord Dome in Texas, because the promoters didn't want his backup singers because they were black, so he said if they don't want them there then he was going not 2 perform THERE. So they had 2 allow them, when they arrived there he made sure they were front nd centre nd driven 2 their accommodation in open cars with a blond woman driving their cars. He didn't see colour he saw talent.

Thank you for posting so many things on Elvis, I have been a fan for a very long time, yes the sweet inspirations was Elvis Presley's back up singers, and just some info, one of the ladies is Whitney Houstons mom . Elvis died August 16, 1977 from a heart attack that was caused by many years of drug use, but he didn't think his use was bad, he would get all his pills from his doctor, and his doctor should have known better then to hive him so many, but apparently he didn't feel the need to , which in turn over time really destroyed Elvis from the inside out, Elvis was amazing and to this day is still amazing , he had love for everyone, you should research his charities that he still to this day fund's, during his life he helped so many people , of all colors and all walks of life, he had the biggest heart I have ever seen from a famous person. I think he gave over 50 cadillac's to people that were strangers and friends, he gave houses money , anything he had if someone else needed it. Again Thank you so much for putting Elvis out there. I would request a song , but I think you already did it , If I can dream , another great favorite Kentucky Rain but since it's Christmas time you should listen to Santa bring my baby back to me . Elvis grew up in a black majority neighbourhood in Tupelo, Mississippi and hung out in black clubs and churches. He was probably a lot more comfortable with black people than white people. I'm a white Canadian from Vancouver, so I completely relate to that. If you live in Vancouver and you're a white racist, you're in the wrong place. I pity some white racist American who comes up here and starts trash talking other races because chances are, a white Canadian will talk some sense into them before a black or Asian person does. Sure, we have our "Freedom Convoy" type of people too, but the one time they tried to have a white supremacist rally in Vancouver to support Donald Trump, literally 10 people showed up and hundreds showed up to peacefully resist them. It was amazing. It was around the time we were bringing in Syrian refugees and America refused to do the same. Since then, the only violence involving those refugees was a domestic terrorist and racist trying to hurt those people, not the other way around. Those people just embarrass me as a white person. I grew up idolizing Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman and The Fresh Prince of Bel Air in the 90s because they were so cool and classy. I never understood hating someone because they were cooler than you. I'd rather hang with them and hope that some of that rubbed off on me. Wishful thinking, but it's worth a try, right?

It wasn't just them, he surrounded himself with the absolute best and they all loved him. And of course there were tensions. If you ever played in a band at all much less minivans like I have much less huge figures like elvis, with so much money and huge contracts and all this stuff, he always found a way to push his agenda and arrange things the way he wanted it and bring out the best in people and he was the first one to criticize himself also, but throughout that process everybody loved him. And it's just so awesome at that time when there was so much divide in the country, that he was just so relaxed and at home with people of color including black women, which at the time wow. And you put that together with the whole context where I'm sure you're familiar with it by now but there was one point they were getting ready to play the Houston Astrodome for the first time ever in fact I think he might have been the first major music concert there and it was a newfangled building, you know the astrodome. And everybody was looking forward to it and it was a huge important gig then they try to tell him a day or two before that the Sweet Inspirations and he also had other black people throughout his band. He had instrumentalists that were black he had staff that were black and so forth and he was told that he pretty much needed to leave the black people at home and do the show without them. In general it really pissed him off and I read one account where he got so angry and started throwing furniture around the room he was so upset. And then he just made a decision and told them that if they weren't there then you can cancel the show. Which was a huge deal I mean an absolutely huge deal. And then when they gave in, he doubled down on it and he had the Sweet Inspirations drive out in open top convertibles in the parade of Vehicles driving on to the Astrodome field in front of that huge crowd with all the spotlight on them and they got their moment to be completely emphasized to this huge audience. This just speaks volumes. But there's plenty of footage of them all goofing around behind the scenes and also of some serious work arranging things and working through issues and practice but almost always having fun as well. This was all just representative of that. And by the way, that woman you talking about? Not only were they all super hot in each their own way, and I love that woman rocking that classic fro from the time, that's just badass. And she's got those early seventies pants I don't even know what you call them where women were being a little provocative for the time but wearing what looked more like men's pants and it had the buttons on the crotch and all that stuff but anyway.
The woman that you were attracted to which of course I totally am as well. I can't remember, I've been subscribed to you for a while and I've seen a lot of your Elvis stuff and I know you must have done the classic 1970 Vegas or whatever year it was in the white jumpsuit of suspicious minds that's so mind-blowing? And if you remember there's that point where you just kind of almost like a panther just kind of pads across the stage towards the Sweet Inspirations and then he singles this same exact woman out that you're talking about, any fucks with her and she's just laughing her ass off and melting and then being shy and then laughing and it is a completely hilarious moment where he pranks her and acts like oh I'll never mind screw you man and he looks out the audience and then he startles her and makes her jump and then she just collapses almost completely laughing and then he starts laughing himself and then immediately goes back into Stage performance and does like a double 180 360 thing or something and swirls back to center stage and they start kicking ass again. That was that exact same woman that you noticed. But also, if you watch a lot of this footage from that era, those women were always switching up their looks. From fro to using some hair straightener and get it long to probably wigs at some point I don't even know, but they were very conscious of the fact that they were in the spotlight and they were having fun switching up their looks and stuff. Everything about it is just so damn cool.

Thank you for picking up on and moreover, appreciating the fact that Elvis has the ear for how to produce and arrange songs. Although, he is one of the most well known and influential artists of all time, his musical abilities are often underrated & unknown. People say he wasn't a musician because he didn't write his own songs, he wasn't a good guitar player or people don't know about his impressive vocals... Elvis was the one that knew what he wanted to hear and if he wasn't hearing it or someone made a mistake, Elvis had a great musical ability. In fact, his signature style of moving to his music was natural and not something he was aware of until it was pointed out to him.

Elvis broke barriers and one of them said to Elvis, boss he turned around and said I’m not your boss I’m your brother. Also when he did the tribute to MLK they said the backround singers were crying they said they never seen him sing with such passion.

Speaking of the Sweet Inspirations, you should check out "Chain Of Fools" by Aretha Franklin in 1968. The ladies dancing around Aretha are the Sweets with Whitney Houston's mom Cissy was the leader and sang with Elvis for his first Las Vegas engagement, a year before this video.

I see you're figuring out that Elvis was much more than just a singer. He did everything by ear and preferred to hire musicians that also played by ear. He loved when they and the back-up singers added new sounds on their own (even if it was during a live performance) to make a song better. He arranged and produced much of his music.

Those are his back up singers. The same ones when he was asked to perform In Texas. At the Astrodome but told him to leave the backup singers at home . So Elvis said if you want me to perform, I will be bringing my girls and again they said no so he said ok then you better book someone else cause Elvis does not perform without his singers. Well I guess they thought better and invited him to come and bring the singers so what did ELVIS DO HE SHOWED UP WITH 3 CADILLIAC CONVERTABLES AND HE WAS IN ONE HIS SINGERS WERE IN THE NEXT AND HIS BAND ON THE THIRD, AND THEY DROVE COMPLETELY AROUND THE FIELD INSIDE THE ADTRO DOME WITH ALL THE FANFARE OF ANGELS . THOSE WOMEN NOT ONLY LOVED HIM THEY RESPECTED HIM.

Countless people have said upon meeting & speaking with Elvis, even briefly, that no matter their superficial differences, he would focus on you like you were the only person in the world. (And with their inevitable focus on him the connection had to be powerful.) And quick to share any type of good humor with anyone else. It was the spiritual wavelength that kept him grounded, his natural and effortless state of being. (People have had similar accounts of Bill Clinton’s striking presence, though he’s clearly more suspect as to potential manipulation.) Nice to see the footage displaying his character.

Astute observation. I've seen that scene a thousand times and it didn't really hit me until you pointed out that E figuratively and literally lowered himself before The Sweet Inspirations to make them feel at ease. Actually, he did that with everyone he met. He came from dirt and his mother taught him to respect everyone. Merry Christmas, Quizzy. TCB
