    In this video I take you along with us as we abandon a old water well. Being too close to the new septic system, the customer was forced to fill in the old well with cement & tied onto the county water line.

    You can order concrete to come a lot looser and liquidity. You just need to ask for a higher slump number. Probably 8 or 9 for your usage.

    True story:
    Easter 1987, I left the church service early and sat in the car, feeling very nauseated. But my wife was fine.
    We made it home, and eventually, the waves of pain & nausea culminated in a big vomit-fest and backdoor blast.
    Later, my wife was feeling the same way. We couldn't figure out why.
    The night before, we had gone with another couple to a restaurant in St Agatha Maine, and each of us had completely different meals. Only the salads were common.
    Turns out, that couple was very ill as well.
    Fast forward 15 years. I found out from my father-in-law that this restaurant many years ago had to relocate its well because the septic drain field had been infiltrating the water supply. He found this out from a friend of his who was near death's door after eating there.
    So, many years later, the mystery was solved. It was all due to the water. And I ALWAYS drank 2-3 glasses at every meal.
    Now I only drink bottled water. Ask me why! 😀

    That's not dry concrete, it's old concrete that was nearly cured in the truck.

  • @jonathans8
    @jonathans8 2 місяці тому +2

    could just feed that well water right back down the hole in order to wet the concrete. would only need a small T fitting, and a valve, to run a smaller hose tapped off the pipe so you could control how much water you add to the concrete.

    Just so you know, you can specify a mix design to most plants to get exactly what you want.
    For this application I order a 6 or 7 sack mix 8 inch slump with a max of 3/8 aggregate and super plasticizers

      @allalphazerobeta8643 I estimated 90 minutes in the truck before he arrived. Started with a 6 on water/slump. Atleast he came! Microsoft is build 10 giant 30 acre server farms across 3 local towns to us, Cloud storage data centers. Every concrete truck runs there on a daily! So doing this job or even Footers is hard bc we are small loads compared to the big money of Microsoft. My worker Justin just left to go work there, $30hr starting pay w full benefits...so it becomes difficult to find help now

    • @Squat5000
      @Squat5000 2 місяці тому +1

      @@h2omechanic there's a lot of truth to that. When I was doing substation work we often had individual pours from 500 to 1500 yards for footings and foundations where the time between trucks was 10 minutes or less. I know calling those in ends up bumping smaller guys unfortunately.

    a little dish soap added to the mix would have probably made it much runnier without adding more water. Doesn't affect concrete quality much

      Ill second that! At 17 I had a chip of steel go in my eye cutting the muffler off my truck! Went out on the saltwater the next day b4 finally had to go to the doctor and get it flushed out! They said had I tried rubbing it or digging it out myself I would have scratched my cornea and done permanent damage! Now I always wear safety glasses at a minimum! Only get one set of peepers in this lifetime best we take are of them!

    the old septic likely dumps excess effluent directly into the lake or down the hillside near it. 🤣 lake-o-poo-water. that was common back then and many still exist that way all over USA.

    The small pipe that allows the water to escape, do you cut it off and leave it or pull it out. I'm guessing you would pull it out so as not to defeat the purpose of the concrete plug. If you do, is it hard to pull out surrounded with all of the concrete?

      If chlorine affected concrete, they wouldn't have made concrete pools for 40+ years. Honestly it's just added bc the state required it to be Sanitized before capping the hole

    Has anyone ever heard of "In Well" pressure tanks! A contractor is trying to sell me on the idea of installing one instead of just replacing my current external tank! It sounds great, but I can't find ANY info on them, on line or otherwise! Thanks!

    • @thomasbonse
      @thomasbonse 2 місяці тому

      Unless you're really tight on space and can't just keep your current tank position, I wouldn't do this. Stick with a standard tank. It'll be easier and cheaper to replace, when it eventuality fails.

      The septic drain field site is always located where it is the most expensive and most inconvenient area of the plot. I think it is a requirement or else a competition between inspectors doing the perc test and site evaluation to see just how expensive for the homeowner it can be. Got a well? Got a city water line? Got an underground electrical service? Got a nice garden landscaped area with a cute water feature? Great move it all because the field/mound has to go right here across this area to maximize homeowner expense and no where else.

    • @throttlebottle5906
      @throttlebottle5906 2 місяці тому

      @@phildegruy9295 lmao. seems so true, but that's usually the largest flat area and likely perc's better because of sand, backfill of better material than the rest.
      so many are likely getting false readings and not smart enough to catch it.
