I've been to Oideas Gael several times, and every time they were welcoming, and helped me grow. I have stayed with the same host at her home (with many other students), and she remembers me every year. One of my favorite teachers lost her Mom one summer, and was welcoming to me and my wife through this difficulty as if we were family. This is an incredibly special place, and we plan to return there very soon.
No one gets kicked out for speaking english. you are encouraged to use you what ever Gaelic you have. It's a great place to learn Irish Gaelic whatever your level of knowledge. I've been there on three different occasions you won't find friendlier tutors.
I have sent a link of your video to a friend of mine in Canada who will be visiting Ireland next Spring. It is a really good video and a really great advertisement for the area and the language. Well done.
I went to Oidaes Gael between 1998 and 2002. In 2001 I performed a song there that I had written about Glencolumbcille. Unfortunately, I didn't write or sing it in Irish!
@JamesPlaysGames95 Essentially it's supposed to be an immersion course, so while I do think it's extreme to toss someone out for speaking English, it does sort of destroy the immersion for others by resorting to English. Immersion though is an incredibly effective way of learning a language, though it is sort of like jumping in at the deep end. In many European countries students of English are almost exclusively taught by way of immersion, so it is quite effective. :)

i heard my friend got kicked out cause she was speaking English. wouldn't it just make sense if they thought Irish like a foreign language so it would be easier for people to understand and speak it more?? (i stopped learning irish in 5th class, because my dyslexia made me really bad at english, let alone another language.
When I lived in Glencolumcille I was chatting with a man and when another man came they started in Irish although they both knew I am English and not a Gaelic speaker. It was the height of bad manners and put me off learning. Messages here also; you win more folk by being welcoming and including them than by excluding and embarrassing them . I live in the Gaeltacht now and only once has anyone thus excluded me. When I was at Mass in Ballydavid, all in Irish and that is fine, I was chatting to a young mother afterwards. She was talking to her little ones in Gaelic then in English for them - and for me, THAT is the way to be. Courtesy wins hearts - and friends NB I am nearly 80 so no plans for more learning!
Sorry for what happened, I understand as I was in France and people who could speak English spoke French and the same happened in Spain then I went to galway and tried to speak irish and the people answered in english ,when I asked one man why he would not speak in irish while I was there he said you want to use me to learn the irish for free and it would cost 30 euro per hour if I wanted to speak to him in irish as he was not going to listen to my rubbish schoolboy irish

A cousin of mine was studying in the Aran Islands and if you spoke a word of English, you had to leave and reapply.
This program is nothing like that. It's friendly and encouraging. Come as you are and grow into it.
