So originally Sutekh was defeated by the Doctor and Sarah Jane by being trapped in a time tunnel travelling towards the end of time, imprisoned to die of age. However in the comics (which were adapted for the Meep so we can assume are canon), Sutekh escaped this tunnel by jumping into the Void, where there are no laws of space, time, matter, energy, life, or existence of any kind. The same place where Wild Blue Yonder brushes up against.
My idea is that the female captain who sacrificed herself to defeat the Not-Things (for all we know she was the first Susan Triad), she literally brought death to the void. If the doctor playing a game let the Toymaker through, then this death likely gave Sutekh strength. By latching themself to the TARDIS as soon as it arrived, they got pulled through back into our universe.
By that logic wouldn't that mean the old pre New-Who comics with the 8th Doctor are canon

All of his finales had great penultimate episodes followed by a lackluster finale with a Deus ex machina, though I still love The Parting of the Ways, especially since that Deus ex machina, while perhaps the most literal use of the phrase, at least is built up over the series

Heck Even Moffat struggles with series finale's which have been built up over an entire series.

people talk a lot about RTD's deus-ex-machinas but at least his finales always have concise emotional consequences for the characters, which is always the point of his stories. Rose becoming Bad Wolf means the Doctor has to sacrifice his life to save hers. Donna saved the universe but at the cost of forgetting the Doctor.
Amy restoring the entire universe because she remembers it is a much more egregious deus-ex-machina than Rose absorbing the time vortex. And it's made more egregious by the fact that it does nothing to develop her character or her relationship with the Doctor.
Every Moffat finale can be chalked up to "the universe is ending, but the Doctor will save it with his timey-wimeyness because he's the most important man to ever live! Also here's the reveal that I've been building up to all season long! It's completely inconsequential, does nothing to the status quo, and by next episode all the characters will have moved on like it never happened!"

Very good tonight! Loved how he used the very words he spoke in 1975 as he walked out and killed the Egyptian. I hadn't read any of the previews (always avoid them) so this was a great surprise. Was 5 when he first appeared on Who. Great. Only problem was that instead of the screechy music coming in at the end - they ruined it with TO BE CONTINUED when they should have done the screechy music bit first just like back in 75. Hey ho. But Sutekh is back! Yes!

The 1975 Sutekh voice treatment was much crisper 0:42 "where I tread..." compared to the 2024 bass-y treatment 0:53 "...of death" Different microphones? Post-audio processing? I like the 2024 Harbinger voice processing though at 0:11
Now, hearing the music and the various other almost biblical verses, I thought that it was The Beast from The Impossible Planet and The Satan Pit two-parter. I'm not too familiar with Classic Who but I KNOW how much of a big deal Sutekh was

6 days until Empire of Death.
Has been a mixed series so far, hated some others were good, but this was superb and its not just the nostalgia of watching Pyramids of Mars on VHS in 1990! Good Effort RTD, and a great reveal
I think the season is very good but could have benefited from more episodes to develop characters more

This just went mind blown 🤯 but I love it, we get to see the return of some old baddies , like this is how you respect the classic era in a way!
Pyramids of Mars was -- and is -- my most favorite DW episode. Sutekh was an evil, but fascinating , character. And, of course, the Doctor's trip to Mars was just as interesting, with puzzles to solve. I love it and I want to watch it right now. I hope this newer version maintains the spirit of the old one, or at least tries to without to much screaming, chasing, Doctor meltdowns, and excessive special effects.

@@bradleydrake6941 Yeah, obviously, but a lot of people don't watch at that point. You can't expect people who work full days to watch 'Doctor Who' while half-asleep and put it on them if they get spoiled by those who did. A lot of fans are still watching on the Saturday evening slot.
It's basic courtesy regardless. Talk about it all you like, but don't publicise it in the title and thumbnail.

@@bradleydrake6941 In fairness, the viewing figures show that the majority are still watching at broadcast time, the numbers at midnight and after are a great deal fewer.
I've made the decision to stay off the internet as much as possible and definitely no youtube for the Saturday just to be sure as there's news articles and all sorts of what not uploaded mere moments after midnight.

@@AuroraButterflyx boss may have a binary cardiovascular system as The Meep said its a rare thing - the last person who we saw with that (other than other timelord) is the Grand Serpent… apparently Sutekh is an enemy of snakes? Where did we last see the Grand Serpent - in Unit (not doing much except fixing units contradictory time line) -> bit a strong theory tbh but worth mentioning.

They've just gotta figure out what rules applies to Sutekh.

I´m excited to see how they are going to defeat or rather imprison the god of death. In the preview we see that the earth is dying so to prevent that they would need to change the past but that would create a paradox.

It’s a jackal like the Egyptian god
Sutekh was an Osiran, a member of a powerful race of god like beings, he was the God of Death and would be the inspiration for many personifications of the devil in Earth cultures, the dog like look directly linking to the demonic dog figures in Egyptian mythology. He was so powerful his fellow osirans imprisoned him on Earth. He was accidentally released by archeologists and fought the doctor before in their fourth incantation and was trapped in a temporal anomaly doomed to travel through time for eternity.
And I'm guessing that he's back to due either The Flux, introducing myth at the edge of the universe or Sutekh just got lucky as he hitched a ride onto the Tardis
He doesn't normally look like that. Or at least not in his original story. He's more humanoid with a mask and stuff in the Pyramids of Mars. I hope we see that design return in the final episode.

Watch the start of The Impossible Planet, and the TARDIS is groaning weirdly, and the Doctor says it has "indigestion". And the monologuing "some call him X, some call him Y", etc. Not to mention Carla called Sutekh "The Beast"! And then at the end as the Doctor has beaten the Beast and the Beast is falling into the Black Hole, when the beeps say "all clear" the Cloister Bell rings once and the Doctor doesn't notice it. What if this is when Sutekh "seduced the vessel" as Sutekh said?

Well it not spoiled really. Some of these clips are from part 1 of this story and some are from the classic series episode. All we know is London is getting destroyed and they tigger a device to escape from it.

The original episodes were great, but Gatwa’s reactions in this trailer are awful. It only shows how poor the acting has become since Baker. How was anyone impressed with Gatwa’s range? He brings no Gravitas to the role.

Everytime I see a Disney doctor preview I'm saddened even more. The budget we always wanted for The Doctor is now being used to push agenda and gay messages. @@chazo1367 no issue with men kissing. The flamboyant, overly emotional portrayal and how he's portraying gay men in general is difficult to watch. I have no issues with people doing as they choose but when you portray a very well know character and do this, I don't like his version or take.
