Dude, check your facts. Black Bears are not rare in the states. Their conservation status is "Of Least Concern". It's not unusual to see them in the Northeast.
Indeed, sadly, in Florida, there was a hunting opening to kill them (black bears).
Fortunately, it's not happening again for the foreseeable future.
@@MikeBMW We've always had bow hunting for black bears here (upstate NY). I had friends in HS that did it. It takes a lot of skill and courage. Now there's a regular bear hunting season as well to manage the population. They encroach on towns when the population gets out of control and it's dangerous for both bears and humans.

In Florida, there are strong measures to keep trash cans secured and reduce bear encroachment (they go to where food is available easily).
It's kinda sad we care for our own needs and don't responsibly secure trash and other attractants that, otherwise, cause the bear population to wander into the areas they used to inhabit.
Seriously, what kinda skill does it take to kill an animal just wandering about?

@@MikeBMW Read up on conservation efforts with regard to black bears. It might be different than you think. The idea is to keep *both* bear and human populations safe. I love bears and I adore seeing them in the wild. (When there is an overpopulation, it's not just about trash.) If you want to learn more about it, go to the NY Department of Environmental Conservation. They have tons of great information.
Bears aren't defenseless. Hunting with a bow and arrow takes tracking skills, strength, aim, timing and a knowledge of the environment in which you are hunting. If you make a mistake, all you are going to do is piss off an animal that will rip you a new one.
American black bears aren’t extinct in most states. They are abundant. I’ve lived in 7 states and I’ve seen them in every one. Currently in downstate NY and just seen my 1st one.
Yep. I've seen them in Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska, Colorado, Arizona, California, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Missouri, New Hampshire, and Maine

True. But unless humans start to learn coexisting with other animals beyond pets and livestock, that is going to be difficult. I mean, we are seeing the "problems" already with wolves here in Europe. it is nice that they are slowly returning here, but farmers keep complaining about losing livestock and wanting the wolves dead - wasting huge sums of money on hunting parties instead of investing said money into reinfiorced fences to keep their livestock in and the wolves out...

You said that the Asian black bear lives in the western half of Asia, that's false. They live exclusively in east Asia, like China, Japan Korea, and Vietnam. Not Afghanistan, Pakistan, or Iran

I for one very much like brown bears - which is in part due to a rather personal connection with one of them.

What about the Growler/Pizzly - Polar bears are crossing with grizzly bears (a subspecies of brown bear) due to merging habitats and the offspring are fertile

My favorite will forever be the Sun Bear because no matter what they do, they always look like a human in a bear suit trying REALLY HARD to fit in, but failing at every turn.

People who live in Churchill Manitoba, Canada never lock their house doors or car doors. The bears will often pass through the town and if a person sees a bear, they head for the closest house or car. They are not cute. They could take your head off with one swipe.

Dear Jesus, American Black Bear Extinct??!! 😂 I'm a Science and Outdoor writer + a fish Pathologist. In much of Pacific Northwest, we have extremely healthy populations, in some States, one can purchase 2 to 3 black bear Tags.

The american black bear is not almost extinct in the united states! Possibly in some areas but overall I know on the east coast and in the north they are bopping about. They just avoid people but they are sighted all the time.

Hi, good question! The grizzly bear isn't actually its own species, but a subspecies of the brown bear. Kodiak bears are often called grizzly bears, but so too are other subspecies such as the Alaska Peninsula brown bear.

I forgot to put this in my original posting: I love bears! I think they're beautiful, mystical creatures! I went on a guided small-group nature tour some years ago and got to see some -- at a distance, of course -- in their natural habitat. That same situation occurred a long time ago when I was in Boy Scouts; I think that's I became enamoured of bears. Fantastic!
