    I have a Chevy G30 long wheelbase van. I kitted it out with a double bed, 3 burner propane stove with oven, closet, fridge, inverter etc. and made a shower setup also. Best way to travel. Pull off someplace quiet, campsite, truck stop or your buddie's place. The E350 is an ideal vehicle for it. Just kit it out good. Not expensive to do either.

    Doublecheck your oil leak at the back of the engine. Diesel engine will have any oil leak on top of the engine will typically run down the intake and down the back of the engine. Could be oil filter ( that's what I found my son's 6.0. Big job to fix ).
    The external 110 plug could be , as said shore power to power the interior power, could be battery charger, I would doubt that. And usually the diesels have a block / oil heater, but that plug is typically at the front lower of vehicle.
    With a generator and mounted a/c unit, would be a terrific travel vehicle.
    Good luck on your decision, not easy choice.
    Great channel, great content, really enjoy it.

    The 7.3 powerstroke is a great engine and uses regular 15x40 shell rotella conventional motor oil is recommended. IT Does not require full synthetic oil, so it is not as expensive. The glow plugs on that engine are under the valve covers. (Helps with cold starts)
    Run the serial number on it to see what the gearing and transmission are on it. If its geared higher, it should get decent fuel economy.

    I like the Old Red and if I had money, I would buy it to "museum" it.
    But, the E350 as a mobile office sounds like a better plan.

    Look at legality of having red facing forward. Not legal in many jurisdictions. Can likely swap out covers for white or amber.

    "It was never used as an ambulance" I get it, you don't want the ghosts hanging out at night, hah.
    If the only major objective is which is better for Camp Scholler and the like, I gotta say the Command Unit hands down. That thing is awesome especially if you're going solo. I'd look at the next 5 years of airshows, figure out what kind of setup you'll have with either option, and which will be more productive and engaging for you while there, and then look at the cost delta between operating both, and figure out the per-show cost of all that stuff. Is that going to pay off, if not ecumenically at least mentally?
    For us having a display on the grounds, it was a matter of whether to upgrade the box trailer we were using to bring the airplane to Oshkosh into a pseudo toy-hauler camper, or, get some kind of camper rental for the week, or choose something else. For all the reasons you mention, staying on site is great, however being a vendor we're camping on the event grounds which is almost as isolated as staying offsite once it gets dark, so we miss out on some of the late night beer around the campfire ambiance. The trailer is just a big box and the ammenities are a bit ad-hoc but they get the job done. IT's not glamorous but it is nice enough and practical. A camper wouldn't be a great backdrop for a booth at a show but it would be extremely convenient for living on site and other vendors do just that.
    Ultimately the choice to upgrade the box trailer was obvious. If we were hauling it regardless, the road and maintenance costs were cancelled out. And while the first year cost a little more to get the box trailer converted to how we want it, it's still far less than the alternatives over 5 years.

    The white 7.3 only has 58k. They are not even broke in till 100K. The a/c in the fords are outstanding my F250 was and I wished I had never sold it to a high school kid and he is still driving it and has had no issues

    Since it is an F350, will the weight of the white vehicle prevent you from using roads that will make it inconvenient for you to travel? How about registration? In some states, an F350 may have to be registered as a commercial vehicle, an additional cost with road restrictions as well. It all depends on what is important to you.

    I sell the Ford F-150 pickups and I have three 73 diesel Ford pickups. You're going to have to decide exactly what you want to do with the vehicle, do you just want to drive it do you want to camp in it? The thing is if you want to camp and still be able to drive a vehicle around get a small camper and pull it with the pickup. If you need a newer pickup as you were the one you have out you still have a camper and you can leave the camper wherever you need to park it. The diesel you do not need because you're not towing anything so you don't need the torque it provides and the fuel is higher than the gas burning F-150.

    KEEP BOTH VEHICLES.
    THEY ARE TAX DEDUCTABLE.
    With the white unit, i would start with the suspension checking for defective components.
    That's all

    The command center would be very luxurious, but costly to operate. I would see about gearing it for economy (rear diff.). A much better enclosure for camping though... Go on a "lose weight" on the van. All the metal cabinets are heavy. Metal frame and Ceconite? keep the ac unit, could save your life. Add an RV ac/heater system. Check the Gvw. It may not need the weight rating, could save money in plates.

    I'd go with the minivan. For weekends, maybe a few week long camps, It'll work best. Honda is great quality.

    E350 7.3L for any long trips. I wouldn't change any cabinetry or seating at all. You can just mount a long piano hinge above the stock seat. Then the bed platform can just hinge upward and be out of the way when enroute or working in the back of the van. About 3 inches of good foam mattress is all you need. You can even find folding camping mattresses of the correct width already made up and upholstered at the major online seller that begins with *'A'.* There should be a latching cabinet on the outside of the command van where you can put a sufficiently large tank for propane if you want to run a camp stove or generator. You could even put a shower compartment inside the van if you're creative. 🤔 Very difficult to beat the convenience. You need a good exhaust fan if you shower or cook inside. ☺️

    Ugh I owned a 07 E350 powerstroke. Horrible ride, horrible noise, hooooorible fuel economy, horrible ergonomics.
    I’ve owned 5 diesel vehicles and that was the worst. 10MPG with a 36gallon tank made short range and expensive fill ups. I have a spare, brand new set of Peltor Bluetooth hearing protection you can have for when you’re driving.

    Which one is more comfortable on the road as you're going to spend a LOT of time behind the wheel. I suspect the F150 wins there (I have a 2014). Use the van for a bit to get a good feel for it. It may work out great and you can keep the truck - but put a lot less miles on it.

    • @ExperimentalAircraftChannel
      @ExperimentalAircraftChannel  4 місяці тому +1

      That is another thought too. Keep all. Just would rather NOT maintain TWO trucks if possible.

    • @ronboe6325
      @ronboe6325 4 місяці тому +1

      @@ExperimentalAircraftChannel For my use case I thought if I could find a good deal on a cheap truck to have around for those occasional truck tasks would I grab it?
      In your case, if you can keep the miles off of it; have a good truck with a known history. In other words, would you grab a nice F-150 for a couple thousand just to have it handy? The down side - if you know there are some expensive repairs on the horizon. Just need to keep the mice out and the battery charged.
