I saw Bo a couple of times at the old Fillmore West. Everybody plays that shuffle rhythm of his. I just love it. A true showman who did his own thing and let others figure out what to do with it.
This show was in Bogards in Cincinnati in a basement that was a fire trap. My wife and I were there when this was recorded by a guy with a primitive camera and sound pickup. We had a small table about 18 feet from the stage. The backup group showed up totally unrehearsed. It was clearly evident that they tuned with him and faked it for about half an hour while Bo was dragging them through a style and a structure of music that was very foreign to them. He was patiently pulling them for better than half the show. The Afro Cuban beat and the "hollers" expressed in his chordation were just not in their cultural ear. When he seized the drums he was showing the guy "this is how its is supposed to sound". It turned out to be one awesome and memorable show. I was stunned when I found this on UA-cam. Ron Kuczak
Ron, Im gather this was the last song of the night. I have never seen Bo but this video is tops. The band must have been reasonable musicians because by this time the guitarists are quite OK. Bo is No. 1
Yes indeed, Bo could hypnotize, paralyze, anesthetize or energize. A classically trained violinist, frustrated percussionist, former Golden Gloves boxer known for fancy footwork & a hard one-two who literally wrote the Genesis-Chapter for Rock n' Roll Rhythm Guitar playing. At some point in every show he would demonstrate this versatility as in this excellent raw video, pounding out some heavy kick drum grooves & uninhibited dancing. Ellas McDaniel, one of the few legitimate "Originals" of R&R.
I almost cried watching these videos.. I was lucky to see Bo live and receive an autograph after the show.. my only regret is I didn't ask for a guitar pick... seeing him play the drums was fantastic, this video kills.. Thank you so much for posting it..
When he had his "Bo-Kay Farms" in Belen, NM I lived in Albuq. and used to visit him every week end I could. He had a golden voice, not only played guitar and drums but everything else as well. Best of all he was a very humble man and the best damn cook I have ever known! Joe
Ain't no bro like the Bo, he could have been in movies too - a true entertainer! The pro boxer turned pro music man he was awesome! thanks for the video..
God damn, I'd have Bo drum for me any goddamn time. This guy's a genuine goddamn musician. For someone with a rhythmic sense like his the drums were probably a breeze to master.
i saw him live that same year at the ROSEBUD in Iowa City, lowa he said he was a man - - "52" and on stage with him was my old buddy "Bo Ramsey" and the 3rd street Sliders. Very Cool . . . the Diddley Daddy knocked out more cool grooves than a person has a right to. He loved he band too and wanted to take them on a east coast tour
And a pretty good houseband. It was not unusual for Bo to play a couple of times a night at different venuess. No time for practice -it was pretty much a "jam" session
Allan Briggs, Bo Diddley, revered in the rock world by fans and peers alike. Played for two sitting U.S. Presidents. His guitar and hat are on permanent display at the Smithsonian Institute. Yet he actually had to work as a sheriff to make a living and never made much money relatively speaking in his musical career. I think that just adds to his legend.
Bo Diddley had more charisma than any musician who ever lived. A total entertainer.

F-ing A, man. Raw footage, small club, never b4, never again, you got me time trippin, bro. U R the man, Fred. Thnx.
This man is an icon. I don't even know if rock & roll would exist without him.
If it did, it would suck!

Bo's rythm playing barrels at you like a freight train.
Just awesome...
Mein Idol!
That is a super cool clip
Hot damn he played drums too!
He was a frustrated drummer - he said he couldn't get his feet to work properly.
wow. He could drum too. I guess I shouldn't be surprised by that - the guy invented rhythms no-one had heard before.
How can the voters at Rolling Stone Magazine rank Bo # 37 and Hendrix at # 1?
good stuff!!!!!
Check this song (Hey Bo Diddley) on the album 'Live at the Ritz',
with brother Ronnie Wood from the Wonin' Stones. ;-)
