I didn't realize exactly how tricksy and flavorful the subclass would be until I saw it in action. At first, I thought they were just throwing misty step at a wall but it works really really well!
Im so excited. Im playing my first game. I built a character that is a great old one pact warlock with a pact of the chain. So jazzed. I already love her and the world we are in at session 2
Warlocks are and always will be my favorite class. So much flavor, so much utility that can be flavored to many different paths based on options chosen. The limited spell slots is hard, but the invocations really help flesh it out and based on species and feat choices you really can create a super powerful character. Pact of the Blade is always my favorite 😁 but the fact that you can get all pacts now in 2024 is so so nice. I’m also so happy that for each of the 2024 subclass reworks, they are all excellent and viable options. It’s pretty solid game design on the Warlock part that each subclass is completely unique and yet none of them are objectively better or worse than the others. Really allows you to flavor the class how you want and not feel like missing out on power. Plus, Hexblade is still available 😁😁😁
If you can’t guess already, I also love warlocks! And, yes, hexblade is still available but I feel like they rolled the biggest piece of it into pact of the blade and that makes me wonder what we’ll see as people combine that with other warlock subclasses!
Hell yeah, brother, Warlocks for life! That honestly was my biggest wish, since I felt if I really wanted to be that warlock gish character, I had to be Hexblade. So now that Pact of the Blade is basically Hexblade Lite, I feel like Hexblade in the future really needs something to set it apart. I feel like they’ll lean even more heavily into Hexblade’s Curse and they’ll keep the medium armor and shield proficiency, but it will be interesting to see how else they impact it. But being able to properly play the Bladelock with Fiend or GOO is so nice 😁 Get up close and personal and then send them to hell 😂 and when they come back, three strikes with a radiant/ necrotic blade for good measure
I gotta admit as much as I can never bring myself to play as a warlock because of the magical sugar daddy aspect, but I do love warlocks and their customizability. But great googly, I'm glad I stuck long enough for the level 3 skit🤣🤣
I mean its just flavor, you can change it , I play a bardlock who trickted a god into giving him power ( I fear he will soon taste the consequences ) you can totaly avoid the spoiled child of tentacle eldrich dady narative , its sush a fun class to build and play
@@loblobsteur I tried doing something like that with a fighter/sorlock multiclass I did once purely for the flavor of a shadowy martial but taking 2 levels into warlock made my DM buddy assume my patron would have autonomy over me when I implied in my character's backstory she just inherited a cursed weapon
Haha I'll probably circle around to doing more builds once I have more of the class guides out. The last build I did performed terribly and I don't think it's what most people are looking for right now.
@@ConstructedChaos No probs, thank you anyway for replying love the character you play with the mask with horns lol the voice is brilliant :) More of that warlock he's funny as hell...
I like warlocks because of their multiclass potential. They work so well with almost any other class that it's hard not to pick up a few levels.of something. Archfey Assassins, Celestial Evokers, Fiendish Eldritch Knights, Great Old One Clockwork Soul. Even just three levels is sometimes enough. When you do multiclass, the spell slots aren't a problem, they're an asset that let's you do more things more consistently than other casters.
Absolutely! And I thought we’d see them really nerf warlock dips with the subclass moved to 3rd level but even just a one level dip for one of the pact invocations is totally viable!
@@ConstructedChaosI think it works both ways, which is really nice. I ca see taking a Rogue 2, Fighter 2, Gloomstalker Ranger 4, Warlock 6 Blade Pact Archfey (if you're playing past 14, six levels of Shadow Monk make you really hard to stop). Really MAD (but not so MAD I couldn't make it work), but the 4 skills and 2 weapon masteries from Rogue, the Fighting Style and 3 weapon masteries from Fighter, as well as Second Wind and Action Surge, and the Ranger's spellcasting, Fighting Style, and two more weapon masteries, and the Gloomstalker's crazy level 3 abilities synergize nicely with many of the Warlock's Invocs and the Archfey's teleportation. Being clever with level spread will matter a lot in the early game, as you need to bring as many abilities online as early as possible, but it'd be fun to play.
I've been salad-barring some Tales of the Valiant Spell-casting/Pact Magic for half-casting, but you get the "Pact Magic" flavor to use for Patron-Centric spells. Is nice.
I have a question for you. Constructed chaos. Should I use the basic rules book /players handbook 2014 or should I use the basic rules book/the players handbook 2024 edition which one do you recommend more for beginners? It’s for classes.
Correct me if I am wrong, but looking at the 2024 Free rules on D&D beyond, it seems like the Coffee Lock was not in the end disabled with 2024 rules? I get that now with higher level upcasting's more broken builds than Coffee lock exist but this still surprises me that it remains RAW for 2024 to Coffee lock. Also, while its not super powerful in the sense that it deals suboptimal damage per round, its also possible to remain invisible as a great old one warlock and spam damaging psychic cantrips without ever revealing yourself or where the damage is coming from.
@@joshuadadad5414 the issue is not on the warlock side. They now specify that sorcerer’s font of magic and sorcery points only work with sorcerer spell slots so coffeelock is, indeed, dead haha.
I’ve been dying for a rework of the great old one warlock. I love this rework, I already usually go heavy into illusions as a warlock so this subclass is perfect for that.
Good explanation Chaos! Easy to digest and clear. I like that you arent mixing in too many 5.14 references. Only quip is do warlocks always have to be "horny?" LOL.
They do and they don't. An actual contract isn't required between a warlock and their patron! Some patrons don't even know their warlocks exist as per the PHB.

I don’t necessarily disagree but I don’t think the celestial warlock needs that level of synergy. It’s just adding a different functionality to your warlock that wasn’t present before. Though, I’m curious, how might you have implemented the subclass?
