- With 4 days until the doors close for good, I stopped at Toys R Us in Canton Ohio to pick up my granddaughter's birthday gift. While I was there I witnessed this retail giant in a way it was never meant to be seen.

Nate, bravo! I have watched your videos for years (on all your channels), and I enjoy your work. But, this? You nailed it perfectly (in my opinion) in all regards (camera angles, nothing being too lengthy, or too brief a shot), the different music really was spot on. And I believe what you have done with this (I'll generalize it) "exploration" video really raises the bar for what a really great "exploration" video should/can be. I am now rather spoiled for anything less. Everything was so well put together and edited. To view it, it was like watching a sort of video tapestry. How you were able to create a video that was so vivid, "real" (as in very moving), and gave the impression of experiencing this closed and silent business like we/the viewer was right in there with you (as well as the interspersed sort of before and after footage). Don't want to sound overly corny, but I did clap when the shot of the cart faded and the video ended. In a landscape of videos where words usually must be used to fill the gap(s), or explain the "whats" and "wheres", you pretty much flawlessly created a truly wonderful creation with so few words. For the most part it felt like being there alone walking through this hulking shell that sadly is Toys R Us no more. Thank you, you are a truly talented artist.

Actually, Toys R Us was doing fine on the online front, it's just the leverage buyout and Walmart, Target, and other stores quite literally undercutting Toys R Us that killed it.

It's so tragic that all of the Toys "R" Us are closing down and going out of business. Sears,Kmart and JCPenny are shutting their doors too because Amazon,Walmart and Target have destroyed them. I felt sorry for the employees who works at Toys "R" Us They needed to find a new job and the founder Charles Lazarus has passed away. RIP Toys "R" US 1948-2018.

Heartbreaking doesn't even say enough. To think of all the kids who walked through those doors to pick out their first bike or to find a beloved toy...and to know that TRU will no longer be a childhood experience. Not gonna lie, this video had me a lil teary. Amazing editing my friend, and the music choices were perfect. Thank you for preserving the memories of one of the most fun stores to ever have existed!

Jeni Lewis yeah, because Toys R Us was a staple of mostly everybody's childhood. I will always have memories of Toys R Us in my heart and I will deeply miss them. Maybe one day they may come back, especially since Kay Bee Toys, another toy store that died years ago, is coming back during the holiday season. So hopefully Toys R Us does come back, but I'll still miss them.

That Nate Guy On You Tube+ You have shown us a very candid harsh reality. Although deeply sad, you expressed it very well through your camera lens. It is so profoundly depressing that Toys R Us is now no more:(. When I was a Child there were 3 Toy Stores in the U.S.: Toys R Us, Kay Bee Toy Shop, and Kiddie City. If you were to tell me when I was a Child of the 70s into the 80s that in 2018 in The United States of America there will be no more Toy Stores, I would have NEVER BELIEVED IT. As an Adult I collect Toys as a hobby. I recently over the last 3 months did get 4 Toys at Toys R Us, 3 of them for 50% off, including Geoffrey the Toys R Us Plush Mascot. I will treasure them all and I treasure my Ms. Pacman Mini Arcade that my Late Grandfather bought at Toys R Us for me as a Child that still works today with batteries. It is so sad to see all those empty shelves and it feels like America is just not the same.

Where I live there is no Toys R Us (I live in Turkey) but seeing these videos, people who commented made me tear soo badly, I knew Toys R Us but I have never been to one. Those old things really make me upset Imagine how old it should be to have that much trash and stain on the floor. My grandma is American and when she learned they closed she cried badly and gave me a old doll she got from there I was soo emotional. I cant think how much memories she had there ... R.I.P Toys "R" Us you will never be forgetten

I remember every time I walked into a Toys R Us store, and how great it felt to spend those few dollars that I had saved up. Online shopping could never replace this store. I wasn’t even this sad when my parent’s store that I grew up around shut down. The memories that were made here will never be forgotten. PEOPLE ARE SO UPSET ABOUT THIS STORE SHUTTING DOWN AND THEY DONT EVEN RELIZE THAT WE WERE THE ONES THAT DID THIS, TOYS R US SHUT DOWN BECAUSE WE WERE TO LAZY TO GET OFF OF OUR BUTTS AND SHOP AT A REAL STORE. Toys R Us had a chance at survival. The top 200 stores went up for sale, but no one took them. They were profitable too! The thing is, in the retail landscape right now very few if any want to invest in brick-and-mortar locations with their huge overheads, especially with the internet shopping now surpassing physical locations. It was only inevitable their demise once they went private. Once you don't have to answer to public shareholders, you can do anything you want, and thus the world's largest toy store went belly up, but really shouldn't have. They could have modernized, put in birthday/party areas, not to mention have places where kids would be able to play with the toys before they buy them. That was part of the reorganization they planned during Chapter 11, but since they had an abysmal holiday they decided to file Chapter 7, and leave the business entirely. Canada's CEO fought like a mad woman, and got a buyer, and that's why the Canadian division lives on today.
If you travel around the country for these Kmart stores and Toys R Us stores, there is an abandoned Big Kmart in Billings, Montana that you should check out. I hope it's not bought, so you can show it in your next vid (that is, if you go around the country for these videos).

In October 2018 I went into our former TOYS "R" US when it was a temporary Halloween store, was interesting, btw the signage outside on store & pole is still up as the BABIES "R" US sign on building. Only time was covered up was when used for Halloween store then was uncovered.

As a kid who was born in the early eighties Toys R Us was a big part of my childhood. I remember going when I was really young to pick out a new toy as a treat or a Christmas or birthday present and it was like the best day ever. A whole store with only toys.
Toys R Us ended up being my first job in high school, I got it to buy Backstreet Boys tickets in 2001. It was my favorite job to this day, we had so much fun, we got to play with toys all day! My location was great with customer service so management didn't care that we played all day, we got the job done, guests were happy and at the end of the day we are making the company money. I hated leaving it for a "grown-up job".
I sit here watching this in the middle of the night as a 34 year old woman with those memories, thinking how my kids won't have those same memories that I had. That sucks. Period.
So rest in peace Toys R Us and Geoffrey Giraffe, thanks for the Memories. I still don't wanna grow up, I'll always be a Toys R Us kid.

I experienced a TRU liquidation. It cut to the core. We, as employees, still worked there as our jobs were being torn down around us. Everything was sold. If it could be removed, it was.
It's so sad to see a beloved toy store filed for bankruptcy! The toy store replacing it is called way bee toy store! "I don't wanna grow up because I'm a Toys R Us kid" They were only going to close 200 of its locations then they decided to Close all of them!
