    Let's talk tires for a little bit. You can either had a really good performing tire, or you can have a long lasting tire. Generally speaking, you can’t have both of them at the same time. With that said, there are many different options out there and choosing a tire can be a daunting task. Here are a couple of tires you might have overlooked because of the brand name, but they are actually very good dirt bike tires.

    I just had my first race on this 505 Cheeter with the tubless system. It was through the nasty roots and rocks of new england for 2 hours at a ski area. Absolutely amazing! I have been running trials tires for a number of years now and the Cheeter was at least equal to, if not better than, the trials tire. With the added benefits of the knobs, better breaking and better in mud I feel very confident on this tire already!

    I run the Shinko 244 on my KTM 350. I have to say it is the best tire I have ever run. They do plenty well in the rocky dirt here in CO and I have total confidence with it on the street. I have about 30-40 hours on it and they are hardly worn!

    I have had a 505 Cheater on my 250f for the last 20 months (more than a year and a half) and it still has lots of life left in it. No plans to change it anytime soon. Best tire EVER IMO.
    The caveat being the tire benefits those who maintain traction on hard surfaces. Spin the tire excessively and it will wear out like anything else.

    Where to spend your money Suspension>Tires>Protection>Engine/Exhaust. I've never had any pipe or any engine mod (head or cam) improve my riding or riding experience, but what a world of difference having a correctly valved and sprung suspension makes and fresh rubber is always helpful! Just did a day at Rabbit Valley and even running high pressures in my tires, I didn't wash out or have the rear slip on my bike because I'm running new tires (Kenda Triples) which actually grip on the rocks and hardpack amazing well; so far I've got 2 days of desert riding on them and they work good in that terrain; when these wear out I'll either get these or the equilibrium; whichever is cheaper at the moment.

    I used the Motoz mountain hybrid on my 200xc for about 750 miles, then the bike was stolen. That was the best rear tire in my opinion for the terrain I ride. The front I swapped at the same time was a Shinko I believe.
    I ride the foothills in and around Denver - Central City/Blackhawk , rampart, etc.
    I replaced that stolen bike with a 530exc-r. I really want to go back to a two-stroke - they fit my riding style/technique a lot better.

    I run the big (120/100-18) 525 cheater on a small bike .. (Husaberg Te 125) and right now i'm with 41!!! hours on them and I have decent amount of rubber left.. traction is very good.. I'm sure it will not work that way if you 100Kg/220lbs on a Te 300 but for a medium sized rider on a small bike its very good lasting, actually a big pleasant surprise.. I also read that the shinko 120/100 is a "big 120" and the 110 is a "small 110".. many people on the net says that the 120 lasts longer. my next one will be the 505 i believe.. I'm not the full throttle all day kina guy.. and my favorite terrain is forest & single truck..wet or dry. they perform very good on wet limestone and mud.. tubliss of course (:

    Running the 505 with UHD tube. Great hook up pretty much everywhere, but just a note on how riding styles effect tire performance. If you are a high rpm tire spinner, then the 505 might not work as well as some other more conventional tires. If you are a low rpm lugger style rider the 505 seems to work better. Also the 505 is not the greatest tire for wet grass track! Ask me how I know!

    I also love the Shinko cheaters! Obviously they are snatching up a large chunk of the tire market and I suspect other manufacturers will be producing cheaters very soon, which is good for everyone.
    I know tire longevity depends on a lot of things but I believe the bike is a major factor. There's a 525 on the back of my XR400R -- a relatively underpowered bike -- and the tire is lasting a very long time, currently about 15 hard hours on the tire and it shows minimal wear. Whereas my WR450F is very powerful and destroyed a 525 in about 20 hours. That is all. Thanks Brothersen for another good video.

      Run what the oil recommends. Its concentration or thickness is reflected in the mix ratio. I'v run Walmart 2 stroke boat oil for 15 years or so at 40:1. it works well as the expensive stuff as far as I can tell.

      By what are you running I meant like are you running the roads to get to the trails if so how long to the tires last, I'm running Pirelli rear on my 02 kdx220 and it lasts a while on the road in a month in and 400 miles in and barely any wear on the tires but I need more traction in the rocky areas

    • @ericewing3615
      @ericewing3615 5 років тому

      Hashtag Moto umm I have a 2000 kdx 200 and have 4 rides on it and run 7-8 psi on rear with Tubliss. Tire has just started to round off the edges and barely any noticeable chunking. I will say my dad runs same tire set up on his crf450x (more power) and he’s ridden that tire twice as much as I have and as the video says even worn down that tire still hooks up. For $65 it’s pretty cost effective to replace as you need though.
