Same, My Grandfather fought in the resistance over in Liegé as did his mother and father. ended up on "The Nazi Ghost train" after a member of their cell betrayed them all. He went on the fight during the liberation in the reformed belgian army and was attached to the first US unit to make contact with the russians.

Hey you look awesome man. Only point is that greatcoat was mandatory in battle ( i know nitpicking and it costs money since it is a hobby). So keep up the goodwork and greeting from Dutch fellow reenacting Belgian interbellum and soon 1940 again.
one lucky thing about that german discrimination towards french speakers, is that it was determined via an oral examination whether a prisoner was flemish or walloon... a portion of french speakers who knew dutch relatively well managed to pass, sometimes with help from Flemish comrades... the interrogations were taken by German officers to whom flemish dialects sounded rather "french" in accent anyway. (flemish has a hard R and soft G like french, opposed to the German and Dutch hard G and soft R...) in the current political divide of Belgium people often forget there were plenty of Flemish ho did not like the Germans, as there were also Walloons who strongly collaborated, the walloon legion wasn't much smaller than the flemish legion, despite the Flemish being the larger population group... also both Flemish and Walloon collaborators were also the ones that hated eachother the most, while fighting for an occupier....walloon collaborators colaborated for ideological reasons... flemish collaborators because of religious or naive "germanic" reasons... in the end both were misguided and idiotic.
interestingly a single act comitted by German soldiers and field commanders in Belgium may have swayed US disposition in favor of war more than any other. The German Fury of Leuven. In particular the burning of the Leuven university library. a neogothical stately library which was sad enough but inside were tens of thousands of literary sources, the burning of the library destroyed the irreplaceable and as such lead to international outrage. US fundraising actually saw to the reconstruction of the library and above the entry a latin inscription stated "destroyed by German fury, restored with American money" it was removed a year after as the university deemed it needlessly insulting to German academics in large part because the German public could not truly be blamed and Germany had to "replace" the collection with material from it's own libraries (though replacing it is offcourse just plane impossible), What did stay up were the many bronze plaques from american institutions and individual donors, they were also restored after the second destruction of the library early in ww2 in the fighting between German and Brittish troops in and around the city. the new library was designed by an American architect named Whitney Warren in what he envisioned as "Flemish renaissance architecture" the end result was a stunning stately library resembling it's predecesor but with some more modern adaptations internally.
belgium did not allow french troops to enter because that was a major painpoint to the flemish indepence parties and would lead to even more anger among flemish speakers as they were wary of the French (and truth be told many in France still believe Belgium should be part of France entirely) the Brittish were not nearly as controversial but I imagine they were not allowed in because it would cause diplomatic issues (the French would considder it a direct insult even though Britain was still the only official guaranteur of Belgian neutrallity anyway) It is unlikely that it would have changed much however, the Germans were as succesfull as they were in France because the allies had captured the German warplans due to the plane carrying them crashing, the Germans were aware of that and changed them, the allies felt secure in the positions they were occupying and actually took troops from other areas to further reinforce the flemish plateau where the Germans planned to push. In the end the speed of the German advance, initiative by individual commanders and most importantly the daring change of plans caught the allies with their trousers down. In the end taking up positions in Belgium would only have helped if that meant focussing on the ardennes which were deemed to dificult for heavy material to pass anyway. the Belgian army should have invested in "offensive" weaponry, had Belgium operated an effective airforce and at least a couple hundred decent tanks the Germans may have been slowed down in the ardennes giving the allies enough time to actually mount a counteroffensive. the linguistic issues also played a role in hampering militairy effectiveness offcourse sadly the Belgian militairy has not learned. We have 0 tanks

If we would ignore the fact that it was near to impossible at the time to even start modernizing the belgian army (due to, too many reasons to name up) I do think the belgian army wouldve been able to delay the germans for much longer. But eventually, the belgian army wouldve been forced to surrender or evacuate with the british in dunkirk. This is due to the sheer german numbers pitched against the belgian army and the fact that the germans punched trough the french lines and thus were able to encircle the belgian army.

I think my favorite. Belgian uniforms had to be the early war Chasseurs uniforms of WW1. Those uniforms were hot as hell.
