Own a glass company and have wondered about etching for a while. That was amazing. very cool. !!
Beautifully done! So nice to watch a skilled craftsman at work. I love the texture and depth you created in the design.
Work of art. People do appreciate this kind of work and the time that was punt into making something like this. This became my passion when I learned craft in middle school. Great work.!
Hi Mariano, thank you for your kind comment.
THIS IS GORGEOUS!!! I absolutely am so intrigued and now need to learn how to sandblast, the ideas that are flooding my brain💛🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 Thank You for this amazing video & inspo!
Wow! That turned out stunning. Amazing work!
Extremely fabulous ❣️ I’m getting back into this. Thank you for the wonderful inspirational video ❤️👏
What a Beautiful Piece of Art it is.
Truly Amazing.
Phenomenal job. Big Ginge will be chuffed to bits with this!
Wow, came across this video purely by accident. I had always assumed this process was done using a CAD and then CNC style machine start to finish, I had no idea this level of artistry was needed. Amazing work.
Hi Tony, Thank you for taking the time to leave such a wonderful comment.
That's very helpful video. Hard and high quality work! Thank you very much.
Beautiful work. Most don't know the planning that goes into etching. I used to do this in the 90's as a side business. I didn't have a plotter, and cut everything with a swivel knife. That and weeding took forever, but the results were great. I also had a little Paasche abrasive airbrush to etch gradients and shadowing. I couldn't get enough people to want the product though in my area, so I let it go by the wayside. I like your specialized cabinet too.
Hi Arnold, thanks for your kind comment. I've been etching glass for 25 years, before I got my plotter I used to cut the templates by hand too. I'm very glad of modern technology to speed this process up. However, weeding still takes a very long time!
The Stained Leaded Glass Company have you ever considered using an automated weeding machine?
Whats the price on a desing like that???
nice thing about the interwebs is you can reach thousands of potential clients. the problem with a lot of side gigs is the people wait around for work to come to them instead of going out and hustlin' (not that you did, it's just a general comment). then they don't have a legit business and treat it like a garage hobby.
people actually still love this stuff, so i wonder if you got back into it you'd do better today....
@@thestainedleadedglasscompa3180 I'm just seeing this comment for the first time after three years because I was just notified of a new comment. Thank you for your reply.
Simply Stunning! Congratulations on a beautiful creation, I am in awe.
Thank you Julie, that is very kind of you to say.
Brilliant, truely amazing work !
You made this look so easy and achievable!
I really like the shading. That's a unique touch. I'm going to have to try that with my air brush sand blaster.
Beautiful work!! Thanks for sharing.
Etched glass is so classy looking. Fantastic craftsmanship and video.
God bless 🙏
Fantastic piece of workmanship there, very impressed.
Thanks Alan! :)
Beautiful work!
Amazing finished art and very informative video thanks for posting this.
Thank you for watching!
Very nice job on the shadowing work.
Absolutely beautiful. Hopefully I can try this on a smaller scale someday. Wonderful video showing the complete process. Thank you so much.
Thanks for your kind comment.
@@thestainedleadedglasscompa3180 what kind of material is used when cutting the stencil that withstands sand blasting?
Very beautiful work. I am going to learn how to do this on a much smaller scale. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Michelle, thank you for your compliments on our work. Good luck with your future projects.
That came out beautiful. You do really nice work 👍
Thank you for your comment. I'm glad you like our work :)
I inherited some of my uncle's Hawaiian etched glass work from the 1950's and wondered about the technique. Landed here, fabulous work! Inspired.
Thanks Sandy!
😊
This is definitely not how they did this in the 50s.
@@nearlyworthless1674 I mean, the lady I learned from was sandblasting glass way back in the 1930s, so...
@@the-dullahan they had Corel and vinyl plotters in the 50s?
So...
No disrespect to anyone who does this...I'm going to try some pieces.
I was only saying that in the 50s the process was very different.
Very, very well done! Bautiful, crisp and stylish!
Thank you very much :)
Lovely work!
Really amazing job - very nice work
you are a true artist , great work!
Thank you Mike :)
This is very professional work! I must learn how to do this and invest in equipment! Thank you for sharing
Thank you very much!
Amazing! The shading on the leaves is just beautiful, which goes to show that automation is no replacement for craftsmanship.
Thank you very much for your kind words.
No kindness involved. Just appreciation!
I never get tired of watching this video. But I sure would love for you to comment on how to get the varying degrees of shading with this technique. I’m a newbie and I’d love some input.
Fantastic work 👍
In a word... Awesome!
Only watched 30 seconds n fell in love. As anRoyal Engineer Veteran i may have to surprise my wife n do our double glazing hahahaaa. Made it look so easy.
That's some amazing work. Something I'm looking at trying to do just as a hobby.
Wow! What artistry!
Thank you for your kind comment :)
How magnificent. Amazingly beautiful craftsmanship
Thank you for your kind comment.
Gorgeous Work.
Splendid!
Wow! It's so beautiful 😍
Wow! That is beautiful
I enjoyed watching you work. Thank you
Thank you very much Brian.
Spotted by accident (although was wondering how glass was etched) and just completely 'blown away' (pun not intended - but I'm leaving it in!) - many thanks for sharing - inspirational stuff !!!
Hi Ron, Thank you for your lovely comment (and your pun). I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Stunning!
Thank you Cheryle!
Awsome work

Very NICE!
i do this type of glasswork but i do it by hand with a dremel!!! nice work guys!!
Hand etching is an art on its own. great work!
ive been wanting to use my dremel to etch images out , any tips would be greatly appreciated
I like the modification to the sandblast cabinet. Was thinking of doing the same to mine to allow larger glass to be pushed in.
Hi, Thanks for your comment. Good luck modifying your cabinet.
Gran trabajo 👌
gran trabajo!!!
Extremely fabulous. I also like that types of work but never seen before this type of wonderful work.
My question is where did you buy the blasting cabinet? I have a similar one but would like to go bigger I like the way you can insert the glass in yours. Beautiful work!
Hello kkash72, thank you for your question. I modified the standard cabinet by cutting a slot in the side and the top and fitting brush seals, this was relatively easy to do. I hope this helps. Thank you for the kind comment.
When you say fine, what grit of sanding medium are you using? Also do you vary grits or pressure between "layers/masking sections"?
I did work like this but with more layers. What I used to get deep into the glass fast was aluminum oxide.
For smooth fine details I like to use glass pearls/beads
Amazing work! What kind of special vinyl was used for cutting the design? Thanks
Pretty cool
Excellent
Fantastic
Nice working
Very good👌
Top! really great!
Thank you!
Amazing
This is epic
Muy bonito 👌🏻
Good work , what gran size for the sand ?
Nice video, thanks for sharing! Quick question...when you did the second round of blasting did you use the same grit and psi or did you change it so it looks lighter than the original blast or did you keep everything same since the original blast is getting hit twice which will make it darker? This sandblasting newbie appreciates any education you can provide!
Hi Andrea, thanks for your comment. We keep the psi and grit the same second time round.
Good job...
Greetings from Peru my friend.
I have a question please.
What kind of sand are you using for sandblast glass?
Thanx you
Do u blast longer in certain areas to get a darker look? Is that how the process works?
Hi, thanks for your comment. The glass etches more white the more it is blasted. It's a bit like airbrushing with paint. The black you can see is the clear glass with a dark background.
Great work what brand and model of vinyl mask do you use?
Very informative video - thank you. Can I just check that the sheet of glass was annealed (toughened) as I am surprised that toughened glass does not shatter with the process . Thanks.
Hi Chris, yes the glass is toughened glass. We usually do not have a problem with the glass shattering but it does happen on the odd occasion.
I would love to know what kind of resist you are using and sand grit for your blaster. I have been experimenting but my beginner pieces are looking aggressively blasted.
Hi,
thank you for your comment. We get our specialist sandblasting film from MDP Supplies, it's a UK based company. www.mdpsupplies.co.uk/sandblastingfilm.asp, the blast medium we use is 60-80 grit Aluminium Oxide Abrasive.
Damn this looks good
Thanks Atlas!
Thanks a lot for sharing 🙂I am impressed you can carved a Toughened glass. I thought it would shatter ?
Love the background music!
What pressure are you set at?
Do you make and sell bespoke stencil?
Awesome work. I do etching myself but not as beautiful as this! If you don’t mind me asking what kind of media do you use?
Hi Josh, We use Aluminium Oxide Powder.
Interesting. I’m curious how you transferred the vinyl sticker to the pane of glass. Wouldn’t you lose all the cutouts when you peel the vinyl from its backing?
Hi, we use clear application tape.
What grit are you using?
Are you using the same amount of air pressure on each stage? If so what psi or if not what different pressures at each stage?
Hi Jimmy, I use the same pressure at each stage.
i have etch glass using a stencil which i made on my plotter and use a etching acid for glass which great result but cant do diffrent shade, what is the best way to practice glass etching with different shade using sand blasting but with out wasting glass to practice on
Hi Chad, thanks for your comment. I would suggest sourcing old glass. Ask a local window or glazing company I'm sure they would provide you with old glass to practice on for little or no cost. Good Luck!
Suuper nice
WOW!😍
That 100 % nice then plasma cnc What mil is template?
I like the vinyl sandblasting method but the issue is the same as an acid etching method. Aka the weeding process is slow/a pain sometimes. Is there any way one can cut through totally so he doesn't have to deal with weeding?
Full cut-through would eliminate a significant feature that takes away from the "artistic" perception of a 3 dimensional design. Sorry, but that IS a major enhancement that makes the piece so appealing. There will be more risk trying to rely on pressure and an artistic eye to complete the 3D illusion (think: sneeze, blink, etc. at a critical moment). I'd be wary of destroying the piece and cost of materials.
heh heh, i used to own a trophy/t-shirt shop. if i never weeded again i would be okay with that. this would take me most of ten minutes, but i've weeded... a lot. i never weeded blast resist, though. the ex did all the artwork, but seeing as how i don't do coreldraw i would have to outsource that -- certainly cheaper than RIP software and i'm not sitting for hours tracing outlines.
fantastic results, looked very classy.
Jolly good
Whoa is that a harbor freight blast cabinet you modified to be able to slide the glass the back like that? If so that’s a great idea
Amazing that the oxide blast doesn't tear the vinyl And why did you blast and remove vinyl 3 different times?
Thats truly beatiful work. What type of sandblasting cabinett is that?
Hi Durim, thanks for your comment. We bought a standard cabinet from eBay and then modified it so we can slide in glass from the top. This type of cabinet can be easily found online if you search 'sandblasting cabinet'.
hi, very impressive piece of art. The gradient achieved is by adjusting the thickness of abrasive flowing through gun? or is it in the design? very interested in knowing the technique. very well done sir, thanks in advance.
Hi Imran, Thank you for your kind comment. The effect is achieved by blasting more in the area you want to be most etched and blasting less in the area you want clearer. This creates the gradient effect. It's all done by careful use of the sand blasting gun and is planned into the design. I hope this is helpful.
Thanks.
This is very nice, clean work, and you have been generous and helpful with answering questions. I live in the US, and I'm not sure where to buy sandblast resist vinyl. Is 120mm a European thickness? I can't find that thickness here. I have sandblasted glass with contact paper thickness, and it just doesn't hold up well. Thank you
Hi Janet, I'm sorry for the late reply. The thickness is 120um or we sometimes use 80um, this is micrometers not milometers. We buy our film from a UK supplier but they may ship overseas take a look at their website here www.mdpsupplies.co.uk/sandblastingfilm.asp. Hope this helps - Best of Luck!
www.mdpsupplies.co.uk/datasheets/datasheetdetapesandblast.pdf - take a look at more information here.
You work with that powder gun like airbrush artists work, great fading nuances. Amazing crafts involved, my sincere compliments Sir. Amazing job. Could you tell me the type of vynil you work. Is it dificult to find it on europe online stores.
Best regards
Hi Joao, thank you for your kind comment. We get our specialist sandblasting film from MDP Supplies, it's a UK based company. www.mdpsupplies.co.uk/sandblastingfilm.asp
Wow, tons of detail and time.
What would something like this cost a company to have done?
Hi Don, thanks for your comment. The price depends on the size of the panel and the complexity of the design. If you are interested in an estimate feel free to send us an email. Find our details on our website linked in the description.
Can I use this on aluminum?
Very nice, is that etch-look for resist film? Or specially made sandblast resist?
Hi, thanks for watching it is specialist sandblast resist film.
