It's usually always for the indicators. Most bulb failure warnings are from continuity so still work with leds. Modern cars don't use a relay for the flashing like back in the day so you have to add a resistor instead of just replacing the relay
I’d love to see a series of you modding the Tundra. It’s the little upgrades that matter, and the sequential signal looks great! Congrats on the new truck!
I used to run a truck accessory shop - Keep the stock tail lights. You will need them when these fail next year :) When one light fails on these - you replace the entire tail light assembly... that will likely no longer exist.
One tip for the exterior bolts, replace them as soon as you can with similar galvanized ones. I didn't on my old truck and when I had to fix the light bulb in the brakes I pretty much had to bust the whole thing to break it open and get the bolts free. A real pain in the ass I wasn't expecting just to change one stupid bulb.
the little black box that you fit behind the light unit is called a Canbus Error Canceller unit its used on LED's to tell the vehicle that you are running 5watts over the stock 35watts output voltage otherwise you get warning bulb out message on the dash cluster if not fit
Be careful with the aftermarket third brake lights, they don't always have a great seal and can make a water leak in your headliner. Headliners are expensive 😅
Great choice on a 2nd gen Tundra! My dad had a 2012 and currently has a 2020 TRD Pro Tundra. He does all of his own maintenance and has never had any major issues with either of them. The alternator on the 5.7 engine is hard to reach though, so if you ever need to replace the alternator it's not fun, but besides that you will love the Tundra. Don't ever buy the twin-turbo V6 model though because the engines on those are garbage.
i would love a truck upgrade series, i just got myself a Taco so it would have been cool to see you do this with yours but a tundra works too i suppose
Last month I got me a New to me 2015 Tacoma. But……It’s a 5 speed manual and I absolutely love it. Nothing like driving a manual and it’s the nicest truck I have ever owned
The resistor is for when the trucks headlights are on. The rear running lights and the turn signal use the same "bulbs." So that's why you couldn't duplicate the issue until you turned the truck and headlights on. But it worked fine without the headlights on and truck running.
When you buy the headlight kit PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD make sure they are good and don’t blind other drivers. I hate aftermarket LED headlights on older vehicles bc they almost all suck and just flood light out as if the high beams are on.
I recommend putting led pods in the bumper if you pull trailers a lot. I turn them on and see everything that I'm doing with the trailer best purchase and mod if I ever made.
At the end, showing the left turn light while saying 'Right turn' and blinking the right light while saying 'Left turn'. Instead of saying left or right I am going to start saying driver or passenger. Even when giving directions... "When you reach the corner, turn to driver."
Awesome video, man! I've been doing the same to my Jeep here and there since I got it. A lot of my lights I got for free from Amazon since I do reviews for them, I still need to do my front turn signals, and i need to do the dome lights since one is already blown, lol.
I don’t remember what it’s called but that black box basically tricks your cars ecu into thinking that your lights are pulling the correct amount of wattage from your battery, since leds use less energy than halogens, so that it doesn’t throw a cel or similar warning signal telling you your break lights or head light are out. I thought most led conversions now a days built it into the housing for the bulb itself but I guess not
Id love to see a truck upgrade series, and you do need those load resistors, LEDs draw less power than halogen, therefore the truck thinks the bulbs out and so it hyperflashes, and I completely agree with you with what you said at the beginning of the video about how it's a 2018 and still using halogen, makes zero sense of why still a lot of car companies are using halogen bulbs
The words you're looking for instead of "disgusting yellow" is warm light vs cool light. It's a difference in color temperature and actually has nothing to do with LED vs Incandescent. You can buy cooler color temp incandescent bulbs. But if you're going to replace all your lights you might as well get LEDs. But also you can get LEDs in warmer color temps as well, your "disgusting yellow".
Hey Tyler, How are you doing today? I am doing pretty good myself. I would love to see a lot more truck upgrades on your UA-cam second channel. I hope that you take care until next time!
You should get the factory led headlights. Its hard to beat oem in terms of reliability and you can still use the factory beam adjuster thats on the dash.
The fault will only appear when the truck os running because when its off the computer isnt looking for a fault. Once its on it thinks the bulbs gone so it goes a bit mad. I had the same problem with ny ford focus with xenon headlights bought this massive error cancellors basically a bank of resistors. However its very easy to do with software so i did that in the end its the best way.
just keep in mind, there was another youtuber who changed his headlights to led and was too bright for oncoming traffic.i think he needed to adjust the angle of shine but he didnt want to
I'm down for a truck upgrade series
Same
You bet 👍
Same
It’s a resistor. LEDs draw so little current that when the car is running it thinks the bulb is out. That resistor tricks the car.
It's usually always for the indicators. Most bulb failure warnings are from continuity so still work with leds.
Modern cars don't use a relay for the flashing like back in the day so you have to add a resistor instead of just replacing the relay
As an ASE master tech I approve this message. You're an auto tech, these videos should be gold.
Congrats on the purchase Tyler.
I’d love to see a series of you modding the Tundra. It’s the little upgrades that matter, and the sequential signal looks great! Congrats on the new truck!
Upgrade videos would be awesome 🔥

True led headlights wont even make one year
0:33 Yes.
This video shows why Tyler *WAS* a mechanic.

I think this is going to be a pretty cool series. Can’t wait for more.
Little Debbie would love a truck upgrade series Tyler 0:31

Congratulations on your new truck, and staying in the Toyota family for 3 vehicles in a row! Definitely looking forward to seeing more truck content.
Yes sir we need more videos of this truck Tyler
truck upgrade series would be dope
We all just enjoy watching you struggle you could literally do whatever and we will all watch it
Be careful with the aftermarket third brake lights, they don't always have a great seal and can make a water leak in your headliner. Headliners are expensive 😅

Old people will love these lights and series they cant see either to drive.
Truck upgrades are always wanted bring them on
I like the truck video. I did my tail lights last week. Your mom helped to wire up my third brake light :)
A car upgrade series sounds like a great idea it also brings a but more variety of content for people who like other things.
Yes to more truck mod videos, Tyler.
8:18 RIP to that bug
Id love a truck series most of my UA-cam channel I watch are car / truck channels your channel is the only one that isn’t
Keep the truck upgrades coming 👍👍
Congratulations on the new truck, you deserve it, thank you for your years of videos
Congrats on the new truck! Looking forward to more upgrades with it
Love this - happy to see how easy making these upgrades can be
15:28 "a nice white light" and a very orange looking beard!
This video was a nice change of pace! Look forward to the headlights.
i would love a truck upgrade series, i just got myself a Taco so it would have been cool to see you do this with yours but a tundra works too i suppose
Congratulations on your new truck!
I am totally down for a truck upgrade series
Love this. I have a 21 Tundra and need to see the upgrades!
Congrats on the Tundra! You’re gonna love it! I went from a Tacoma to a Tundra and I have no regrets😁
Definitely make a series fixing your truck up. That will be cool.
Great viewing dude, keep 'em coming 🤙
i would like to see a truck upgrade series
Last month I got me a New to me 2015 Tacoma. But……It’s a 5 speed manual and I absolutely love it. Nothing like driving a manual and it’s the nicest truck I have ever owned
Glad you were still able to find a manual, they're getting rarer and that's sad.
@@bwc1976 I know right.
I hope to become an old man in this truck.
Love the car/truck install videos definitely keep doing more!

I hate aftermarket LED headlights on older vehicles bc they almost all suck and just flood light out as if the high beams are on.
I love doing that to people like you !!
Id love some more truck content👍
I recommend putting led pods in the bumper if you pull trailers a lot. I turn them on and see everything that I'm doing with the trailer best purchase and mod if I ever made.
im down for the series too bro. was great to see a vid from you mid week....keep em coming
At the end, showing the left turn light while saying 'Right turn' and blinking the right light while saying 'Left turn'. Instead of saying left or right I am going to start saying driver or passenger. Even when giving directions... "When you reach the corner, turn to driver."
I Drove a bus and we used Roadside and Curbside. Which is driver and passenger.
Port and starboard :)
Definitely should do more of these
The stock lights are manufactured for the most safety of other drivers so they’re not meant to be blinding bright
Shhh
When headlights are adjusted properly, there shouldn't be a big problem. Maybe a lifted truck or something would be a problem.
@@awholelotofnothing6456 lol, you think people actually adjust their headlights? 90% of people on the road don't even know what that means
I prefer having leds rear lights it makes sure people can see my brake lights
@@firemanflorence sad but true.
Awesome video, man! I've been doing the same to my Jeep here and there since I got it. A lot of my lights I got for free from Amazon since I do reviews for them, I still need to do my front turn signals, and i need to do the dome lights since one is already blown, lol.

Depends on how it's made.
Hell yeah, mod a bunch of vehicles! 😂

It’s because it’s only hyper flashing when your headlights were on. But when they were off, they were flashing normally.
Make a series dude. Mod your truck and make a little money off it. 😂
Keep this coming! I enjoyed this. But I always enjoy your content sooo you do whatever :)
I've never been into this content, but this was quite interesting!
More tundra vids! I got a '14 model, i feel the pain of those lights.
I love truck content
more of this!!!
I vote for more vehicle related content.
You really need to add links to the products you use 🤣 as a 2016 tundra owner that would be helpful. Glad to see you upgraded!

The socket trick is awesome
pls keep this going
Keep the truck series going
More Truck Stuff Please
Get some cherry bomb extremes, you’ll thank me later, I have them on my 2018 tundra and it’s definitely a game changer on how it sounds
Hey Tyler,
How are you doing today? I am doing pretty good myself.
I would love to see a lot more truck upgrades on your UA-cam second channel.
I hope that you take care until next time!
New tundra new mods? Let's go!
Need more vids like this
Are you gonna talk about the pile, Tyler? Man appears to possibly be compostin
I am so here for this.
Tyler tinkerimg upgrades. Lol
Hope someone explains that tail light thing. Why adding it to one side fixed the issue.
It'll be on loop so one side will be enough to trick the system.
Nice Truck, Tyler, but doesn't the emergency brake work. I thought you were going to back over the camera.
More truck upgrades please kind Sir. Ty.
You should get the factory led headlights. Its hard to beat oem in terms of reliability and you can still use the factory beam adjuster thats on the dash.
In this episode Tyler discovers what can bus cancel let’s do 😂
Love videos like this, great video topic to start...
I want more truck content, very interesting.
We want more truck updates!!!!!🙏🙏🙏
So down for a series
Be careful with the resistor they get really hot. You don’t want them to melt the wires.
your left turn signal is your right and your right turn signal is your left. 15:56
I’m down for a bunch of truck videos
Should replace the license plate lights to LED too.
The fault will only appear when the truck os running because when its off the computer isnt looking for a fault. Once its on it thinks the bulbs gone so it goes a bit mad. hey l thought like you in 2018 they would have used led lights but l think you made the right choice to change them good vid
Was pretty entertaining
It’s because you probably still have the stock halogen bulbs up front so one resistor was enough to trick it into thinking nothing was wrong.
"All right let's take the headlight out and see if that makes a difference." Lol you meant taillight
Yes more truck vids
