the "shape dynamics" box might have gotten unchecked, try clicking on it and you should be able to change the hardness.

What if I want only the width of the brush to vary? And NOT the opacity? I have this problem where my brush(when using Pen Tab) strokes get darker if they overlap. Somehow if I'm using a mouse it's just solid.

If you want to change the width only, use roundness jitter. For the opacity thing, the opacity of your brush might be lower than 100% or if are using a color it could be on multiply mode. Hope this helps!

@@prismatic_glow7982 It is 100% already but I still had problems. If I made a stroke with the mouse, it is solid, but with pen, it is not.
What fixed it for me was deactivating "pressure controls the opacity" button or something like that.
