    Thank God for immunizations. I'm 72, every school I attended had at least one child in braces. The baby one house down , died of measles. My uncle died of pneumonia, before antibiotics. I could go on. Be grateful for science.

      Right. The common cold couldn't get bad and if it did you would have one foot in the grave and one out. Thanks for the advance in medicine and technology.

    What a wonderful and intimate little talk from Audrey King. I love that she didn't pick very typical stories to tell and it's clear that that time in the Iron Lung and the day-to-day activities really stuck with her. When she tells her stories, it really brings me back to being a child myself-- It has that wonderful indelible touch of innocence and that childlike imagination and thought process that no matter how much we try to grasp onto, we lose as we age. She remembers and recounts it so well. I am certainly glad polio rates are down by 99% according to the WHO and I am thankful and humbled that King decided to share her experience.

    We must remember to never let anyone go through this or experiences like it again, if we can help it.

    What strikes me is how this is a story of care and community around isolation. Neighbors, family, who couldn't visit still sending gifts or helping.

    Dear sweet Audrey, your life has been so affected, yet you overcame. Do know there are others that have suffered and endured, as you have, from physical processes beyond your control, myself among them. Strength isn't in the body, it is in the mind, and you are a very strong woman, indeed.

    When I was a toddler my neighbor would babysit me, her name was Melinda. She and her mother had both survived polio. Melinda wore leg braces, I remember when the curtains in the kitchen caught fire and she fell to the floor trying to put it out, trying to get up. Lois was in a room, in a bed, with pullies and everything, paralyzed from the neck down. I remember learning about death when she died.

      They are updating their catalog while they are applying for a museum thing (I think) but they said most videos will return once gone over a quality review!

      They’re basically getting rid of everything with human remains in the museum. They’re also deleting videos containing human remains. Does not make sense at all. I do not support the direction the museum is headed in.

    WARNING: There is an EXTREMELY loud and jarring noise which occurs at 5:00. I suggest you briefly mute the video by pressing "m" (you can unmute by pressing m again). I don't normally care, but this is very startling and comes out of nowhere. It's just some random technical glitch that sounds like a horribly screeching. Very unnerving in the middle of the night. Like one of those old jumpscare videos minus the dumb picture, now that I think about it. Only, not purposeful (I hope).

      It's some kind of suction with her breathing mechanism. You can hear throughout the whole video that she's on some kind of assisted breather.

    "OVERCOMING" DISABILITIES IS NOT AND NEVER HAS BEEN THE FOCUS OF THE MÜTTER MUSEUM.
    This channel used to be a wonderful respository of highly respectful & genuinely fascinating stories about people who *didn't* overcome their disabilities.
    Coating your content with sugary themes only serves to enforce the disastrous notion that the lives of severely disabled people can be safely ignored & hidden from public view.
    *Hiding the Mütter's earlier content is a tragedy.*

    I find it very odd that youre happy to like comments that dont have any criticism against the current Mütter leadership... But you're totally fine taking our tax dollars for exhibits you unilaterally take down. Are you giving back that money??? Or???

    • @MiniMuon
      @MiniMuon Рік тому

      I have a feeling you don't know how exhibits and fundings works in long term. Education, science, healthcare is the best thing to put your taxes in, infrastructure, safety and so on. You don't go buy a Tesla and ask back your tax money, why is that?

    • @corvuscrux
      @corvuscrux Рік тому

      @@MiniMuon you're hilarious. You have no idea what my background is or what I do every day. I know damn well how this works. I also know VERY well the stipulations of their grant funding for Momento Mütter... That is the grant funding I'm talking about. The grant office was very receptive to my emails and incredibly concerned to find out all of these shenanigans were going on. Turns out I'm not even the first person to notify them.
      Good try tho.
