Where were you in 79' Smokin' Dope and Drinking Wine.. for me at least. Don't know how I missed the notice on this lesson, I asked you about 2 years ago if you could do a lesson on it and you said you would but only if I told you what I was doing in 69'. Had to lie a little and give you the correct lyrics only because in 69' I was in first grade and that's a little to young to be Smokin' Dope and Drinking Wine with Black Light Posters on my Wall. 🤣🤣 AWESOME LESSON and THANKS for doing it !! Oh just read the description, Rodney Justo was just on the first album, the voice everyone is familiar with is the late great Ronnie Hammond.
@@MarkZabel No problem, Ronnie Hammond joined the band for their second album and was the singer on all the other albums and all their hits. Another little tidbit, one of their best albums is Champagne Jam , Artimus Pyle and Jo Jo Billingsley from Lynyrd Skynyrd performed on it.
Shit in ‘69 my grandma was 15 wishing she could go to Woodstock..... but I love ARS, and have become friends with them over the last few years. They still rock!
@@MarkZabel yes I do. Right now I am trying to learn lead guitar to the Allman Brothers' "Soulshine." Trying to pick it up by ear, but this takes more time... Things would go much quicker if i could watch a recorded lesson!
Thanks so much been looking for Travis truth version for awhile and so glad you educated me on the original I love it! My dads cover hand used to play this back in the day and I always thought it was a Travis truth tune
Love this! Born in 96, but have become friends with ARS over the last few years. Just moved to a new area and want to do a tribute to my friends from Georgia, both ARS and Georgia Satellites. Was wondering if you could do a lesson for either “What’s Up Wit Dat?” Or “Who Ya Gonna Run To” both by ARS? I’ve got Keep Your Hands To Yourself and Battleship Chains down for Satellites, and this one for ARS, wanna learn one more! Please help!
@@MarkZabel My pleasure dude! Had to revisit this one. I love it when a guitarist likes to cover stuff ACCURATELY! How could somebody down vote this? Idiots I guess...
Hey guy - usually your lessons are spot on, however I think it sounds better at 0.10 - 0:12 and 0:20- 0:22 if you play both the B and G string together in the 3rd fret.
@@MarkZabel I have some kind of ARS re-do studio version of this song and Imaginary Lover. Vocals are grittier and guitars are also grittier with much longer solos that really let Barry Baily shine. The original does play the one string and the re-do plays the double which to me sounds better. That version is on here time 5:13 and is called rerecorded
I heard that. I was never a fan of solo Gregg, but he clearly was a key guy in the Allman Bros and he wrote some of the best of their songs. I'll do a lesson on one of their songs in tribute. I've been meaning to do that for a while, and this is a good occasion for it.

Ha, that's great! Yeah, it was a bit before my time too. Glad you eventually found the video and thanks for the info on Ronnie Hammond!

Wine? Who drank wine? I always found beer to complement my dope quite well!

Very nice job mark. I just heard this song yesterday, and it’s been a while since I’ve heard it. Love this song, thanks for doin it

Thanks! I love this song too. ARS in general ... great band!
I just found your lesson on this, Charlie Daniels recorded this on one of his albums, i never knew ARS did this. Love this song.
Yes, great song.
Excellent job teaching this dude! As for what I was doing in 69: riding my banana bike and chewing Bazooka Joe.
Good stuff!

Thanks. ARS were great. I'd consider What's Up Wit Dat. I'll put it on the list to think about for UA-cam.
Mark Zabel awesome! Thank you!
Awesome!
Thanks!
Really COOL 😎
Thanks brother!
Sweeet! Thanks TONS! :-) Very cool
Glad you liked it. Thanks for watching!
I would like you play I HATE THE BLUES by Atlanta Rhythm Section, Great Job , Thums up.
Oh, great song ... but "Let's Get Stoned" then too! :)
Love it!! How many people thought this was Skynyrd? Forgot all about this song until the local classic rock station played it!
Yes, definitely fooled me early on. Great riff and cool song. Thanks for watching!

Thanks Sir. Love the handle ... but I thought Texas was more of a "beef barbecue" state. I eat 'em both, so I'm covered!
More beef yeah, but we have Texas style ribs :) cant say I am a big fan of brisket.
