I have a friend who has decided to move to Arizona, I asked about water shortages…… denied there is a problem…. Denial!!!!! People refuse to accept the reality, what happens to millions of people when the power and then the water stops??? I bet they think the government will save them?
Lake Mead is now below active pool. I'm told this means water can no longer enter the electric turbines. You'd think this would make the "news" but no we see Jan 6 nonsense.
I used to have a houseboat docked at Callville Bay. This video is heartbreaking! Some of the best days were spent at that marina on my boat with good friends. Thank you for posting and reminding all of us how important it is to conserve our natural resources.
i envy you having your own houseboat. i remember when me and my friends from los angeles brought 2 boats, 2 wave runners and rented 2 houseboats over there. the 2 coolers in the houseboats were filled with beers and the following day almost all gone. i guess i will never see lake mead back to where it was 20 years ago in my lifetime. sad!
I used to live in the American Southwest. Since I moved out 30+ years ago, the development in the southwest has been just unbelievable. You can go on Google earth and see all the golf courses, strip malls, and cookie-cutter housing developments. And all of them depending on water. I believe that Lake Mead and Lake Powell will meet their demise a lot quicker than people can contemplate. We may even see mass migration of millions of people out of the American southwest. And no, I am not joking.
In my town in Arizona we have plenty of water not only in Clear Creek where we use to get our water but underground there's enough to last for hundreds of years!!!

I did work in that area 2 years ago. The amount of construction going on is unbelievable. People are completely out of their minds. They will be ghost towns soon.
When I retired 10 years ago, I moved away from the Las Vegas area to another state. The drought was a consideration. There were water restrictions back then.
Florida is in trouble. It is getting bad. Too many new houses, apartments , more apartments , condos, car washes, Gyms and fast-food joints and Self Storage facilities on every bit of land on the main roads. A 15 minute trip to visit friends now takes 45 minutes to an hour and sometimes longer during Rush Hour. With more people it brings more pollution . More cars on the road and more boats on the water......... God forbid a huge hurricane 🌀 comes along and people have to evacuate. Over 10,000 people a day move to Florida . However, I do enjoy the few and far between days on No Humidity and Temps below 65 degrees!

In the mid 80's while living in vegas. I used to ride my friends moped to the lake and spend the day cliff diving & swimming. Everything everywhere is changing so fast these days.
I was born and raised in Las Vegas jumped off Cliff’s number one number two when I was a kid I can’t go to the lake it’s so sad Las Vegas made massive water conservation to control our issue with Lake Mead California has done nothing so if you want to do a video on why the water is receding so much It California. I have a little business mostly replacing lawns with drought-tolerant native plant landscapes and it is very hard to find work. I’m definitely just getting by. I have done a lot of jobs over the last few years but nothing like what I ever would have expected. I have to think that what I do will eventually become more popular. But still most people are so attached to their green lawns. While it’s 95-100 degrees every day in the summer.

At one point, Nevada offered to build, maintain and PAY for desalination plants on the Californian coast. They declined
The reason for refusal of desalination is that the concentration of salt that was put back into ocean might kill some fish. Israel has been doing this for years, without any problems. I guess people who live in the desert can die, but fish need more water to swim in the ocean.

California spent all the money on a railroad to nowhere they could have spent on desalination! I also heard a rather startling issue. LosAngeles allows as much as 80% of its usable water allotment to freely flow out to the ocean. And that figure was verified by the Dobrinich youtube channel. Check it out if you like. The guy really seems to know what he is talking about.
A few months ago we rented a small boat out of that same marina to go around Lake Mead. We decided to beach the boat on a nice beach by the inlet. A few hundred meters from the beach was a small hill. I decided to climb the hill to get a nicer view. What I found on the hill shocked me. It was a warning buoy still chained to the ground. The buoy was marked "DANGER: ROCK"
When I drove across hoover late 1979 I would never believe it would dry up to this . The water was at a all time high by lime marks showing up now on the canyon walls
When I was in school 10 years ago, I did a study for my statistics class of Lake Mead and what it provides for the southwest US, and what would happen if we entered an extended drought and nothing was done to limit the use of the water. It's sad to see the lake at emergency levels and receding 5 times faster than my worst-case scenario. For this to be sustainable, action would have had to be taken about 5 years ago. Unless I missed something, the only thing that can be done now is to pray for record snowfall in the Rockies. For 5 years straight.

I am just flabbergasted that these people STILL haven't pulled their boats out!!! This is nuts, watching this!!!! People are still denying this is a problem. I was there in 2019 for EDC, and knew it was a problem. I talked to one of the workers at the dam, and at that time he said they were 50 feet above minimum. Then I came back in October 2021, and is was much worse. And now.... Holy Crap!!!! Never thought I'd see this happening! GREAT VIDEO!

I lived in California... moved to Vegas...saw that and made me sick to see the lakes drying up...so I live in Oregon the green part...and love the sound of running water makes me calm it's hard to think about living without Water.
Ouch! Looks really bad. Calville bay was once upon a time beautiful. I know. I was there in June of 1978! Lots of water for many miles. A desert paradise oasis back then. No crowds, plenty of parking and room to breath. How sad what it has become. I lived in Las Vegas Nevada from January 1978 to September 2011. Left for that same reason knowing it was gonna go dry by 2024! Good luck all with water in a very hot dry desert. No water equals no life.

Thanks for the update. Watching with much interest from Western Canada. Many years ago I went Hover Dam and could see from there the vast amount of water in lake Mead. Sure is different now I am sad to say.
I was raised in Vegas for most of my life all my children were born in Vegas and this just breaks my heart. I grew up with fun memories of going to the lake on the weekends and having so Much fun.
I live in Henderson and we were just out there a couple of days ago and it Sickens me.. Calville was our boat launch.. We sold our boat last year.. Last summer the lines at the Marina there were 3 and 4 hours just to get in or out.. The desert is taking back its land..
You do know the lake is at inactive status.. That is the 2nd of 3 stages.. stage 3 deadpool.. That means the lake is stagnant like an half empty pool in a backyard.. Deadpool means they cannot release water.. And everything will die..

I am so glad we sold our Vegas house in 2019 for a hefty profit. We gave Vegas 12 years and never once did the water come back...so we saw the red flag and left while we still had equity. I suggest if you live there...sell your house and relocate while you still have value in hour home. If you don't have a home....move asap!!!!
Never let a good crisis go to waste. The solution that stands to make billions has already been figured out. It’s laughable to think the billion dollar corporations in Southern Nevada will up and close their doors because the lake dried up. Everyone else will be cut off from the water supply once we reach critical levels. Southern Nevada is not the problem
I've been obsessed with this problem. It's amazing to me how little National attention this is getting. Living in Buffalo, NY ,in between two of the Great Lakes ,water is not a problem here. Unfortunately the water of Lake mead supplies drinking water, power and most importantly irrigation for crops in the southwestern US. Those crops eventually come to the Northeast when our short growing season comes to an end. This is a truly scary problem. It will affect our whole country sooner than later. I fear it already is with increasing food prices. I applaud your Videos. They are well thought out and you're articulate with your message. Please keep showing what is going on out west. Thank you for showing the rest of the country what's going on our there!
I can’t agree more with what you said. Overpopulated areas in these drought stricken regions are draining the precious resources that are left. Toppled with climate change we are in trouble. I used to think clients change was a political issue which in a lot of ways certain parties run on it. The sad realty is no one actually addresses why were are experiencing climate change so rapidly. They talk about cars, planes and fossil fuels but did you know Cattle Ranching is the leading cause to greenhouse gasses. It heats up the earths core like a heat getting trapped in a car that can’t get out. I always thought it was BS tell I watched a documentary with hard research and statistics no one what’s to talk about. Because if that did it would involve telling people they would need to change their eating habits and I guess you can’t do that. Don’t get me wrong I am no Vegan myself and cheese burgers and steaks as much as anyone but do you know how much water and corn it takes to feed a cow to then raise it kill and feed it to humans? I encourage everyone who reads this to go and watch Cowspiracy on Netflix. It will change the way you look at things. I am not giving up meat because we are conditioned to eat it sense we were young but going to eat a little less of it and grow my own garden to feed my family. Time for everyone to get smart grow a Victory garden and stick up on non perishables.

Thanks for the update. When lived in California, I often visited Las Vegas and the Lake Mead. It was about 20 years ago. I am so sad to see what is going on in and around the lake. I hope the rain comes back and refill the lake and the Hoover Dam, so the people live there will be safe.
You have a very pleasing voice. When I was 10 yrs old I spent a month during the summer at my aunt's home in Boulder City. I learned how to swim there at the local community pool. Almost everyday me and my cousin would to go the Hoover Dam visitor center in Boulder to watch the free movie of the construction of the dam. My Uncle was a tour guide at the dam so we got to walk through side alleys in the dam, walk on the generator floor, stand at the exit of the by-pass tunnel on the down stream side. I live near the Flaming Gorge Dam on the upper Colorado river basin. Before 9/11 you could take a self guided tour through the dam and no one was any where to be seen. The only thing between you and the generators at the bottom was a pony wall with a 4' plex-e glass that any able bodied person could climb over it they wanted to. And now you are saying "what has that got to do with anything?" Ramble -on

This is the first time for me watching your channel. Your voice is very soothing. Thank you for mentioning that some people would be challenged walking that far to the marina (someone like me). In the 60's we used to live in Vegas, and the heat didn't bother me as a kid. Lots of memories with our Lone Star boat on Lake Mead. Its occuring all over the SW united State. The REAL reason why migrants were moving up from South Central south america was the drought is impacting that country. The entire Pacific Ocean is ina veery very serios Lanina driven by ever increasing heat uptake from the atmphere. The drought will be perment with some minor changes in the next cycle but the SW is turning into another Abu Debia.
The minimum surface elevation needed to generate power at the Hoover Dam is 1,050 feet. Below that is an "inactive pool" where no power can be geneated. The "dead pool" happens at 895 feet when no water can flow out of the reservoir. . . We shall see soon eough, but it doesn't look good.
They have increased the water flow of the dam for yrs to keep up with Southern calif energy consumption. California has cut back coal and nuclear energy and the dam is trying to keep up. Its not global warming. Why doesnt the news report this. Hmmmm..... I wonder

Rain won't do anything. The water source is the snopack on the Rockies which is vanishing due to a warming climate. Unless that changes and we have mulitple good years of snowpack rebuilding Meade is finished.
The water shuttle takes people and supplies from the dock to the houseboats and back that are anchored out or too far to walk to. The big blocks are the mooring stations to which the docks and Marina are anchored. The lady that told you they will keep moving the Marina as far as needed was wrong. They will move it as far as possible. There will be a point (coming soon) that they will NOT be able to move the Marina anymore. When that day comes you will be telling the last of the story of a dying lake. RIP Lake Mead!
@@rayd.5088 Constantly buying dock has to be expensive. After the lake dries up, it would be worth it to load that up on rail cars and use the sections here on the lakes in Michigan.
I'm watching from Australia, so I was oblivious to what's happening at lake Meade. I've just been looking at Google Earth and the historical images and it's frightening how far the water level has dropped recent years.

A woman in a grocery store the other day told me she was kind of shocked by how high the price of almonds has gotten. I said, "Wait until they tell the almond growers they have to take half their acreage out of production due to water restrictions. You'll think today's price was a bargain."
Almonds are a crop that should have NEVER been farmed in the regions of the central valley to start with,,they are a heavy cause of water depletion.. awwww you will have to pay more for an exotic nut..
Nevada does not see rain in the summer. most of its moisture comes in the form of snow melt and as Global Climate Change warms the planet, snow levels are dropping FAST. Global water scarcity and Global famine is next.
I grew up in Henderson 9 miles from Vegas Wash. Loved the lake we had a boat spent countless hours there. Later as an adult living in California I would take my family and our boat to Lake Mead so my kids could see this spectacular lake.
What we are actually watching here is the very start of the end as it relates to highly public areas and the effects of global warming and the drought caused by global warming. It's sad but not unexpected. Just imagine how empty that lake will be in the coming years. BTW, for those of you thinking a good rain will help the situation, no. California weathermen have already pubically stated it would take several years of constant rain to refill that lake to past levels. That lake is dead and will remain dead until the next ice age. Thank you for sharing. Before long, this lake will be closed to the public so it's great you were able to get some last minute footage.
I've also been watching Sin City Outdoors on this subject and they were showing how dangerous it is boating out on the lake now. Many areas of the lake (even in the middle) have gotten so shallow that boats are bottoming out! Just crazy to see this!

I used to snowbird to lake Las Vegas to get away from the Canadian winters. I am so saddened to see how bad the drop in water level of lake mead has gotten. It’s a somber sight to see such a beautiful oasis meet this kind of end. I lived at “The V” community on the north shore and I was so sad to sell and leave. I miss it terribly!
I study Anthropocentric Climate Change. Earth is over heating! Its causing the jet stream to shift north. The Jet stream helps to pull moisture off the Pacitic and bring it inland during a ELNINO. Right now the Pacific is in a LANINA so..that ALWAYS denies some moisture away from the South Pacific and diverts the Jet streams and pacific moisture into Washignton. Our state was slammed with LOTS of moisture and one horrific Atmospheric River that did horrible amount of flooding and damage.
That walk of the last leg looked Long, hot and impactful when you see life preservers in great condition maybe 200 yards+ or more from the water's edge. It needs to be seen by many people.
If you have kids now, you'll be telling your grandkids that there used to be a huge lake in that desert, and they'll think you were trying to trick them.
If you look at a timelapse satelite view of Lake Mead from 1980 to 2000 there is barely any change. But from 2000 to the present day it look as if somebody flick a switch; or perhaps pull out a plug. It's terrifiying how fast the water level is dropping!!!
All they have to do is close the dam until it recovers. They could do it but they are creating a shortage of EVERYTHING right now. It will be interesting to see how crazy people go before the psychological torture becomes boring to the powers that be at the moment.
They have. Multiple times over a decade now but no one believed or listened. People have been screaming about getting water usage under control since the '90's and people just pointed at the '80's and said it would be fine. Then the '00's happened and people said it again and once again they were told to stop being hysterical. Then the 10's came along and some people listened but others said things would turn around "any day now." Now we're sitting here in the muck of a dried lake bed being reclaimed by a desert and NOW people are seeing the issue. The levels are only going to drop faster and faster from here on out... What you're looking at is basically a microcosm of climate change and no one is going to take that seriously either until things look just as bad as this.
This is absolutely insane. I visited Lake Mead last year and thought that the water level then was already very low compared to what I saw the very first time I went in 2014. This is so sad yet mindboggling to see. I did my own little research and found that this drought is caused by a condition called La Nina, so for now we can only hope that rain will return in the rainy seasons. So insane to see this though; I never took into account how much the lake dried up until this video..

ASTOUNDING!! I used to live in Vegas, and I returned for the first time in December 2020, and was amazed at how low the lake was then!!! I would consider moving back to Vegas, but I would never buy a house there. That city is going dry!! And as low as that lake is getting, I don't even want to think about the drinking water quality.
Wow! I lived in Henderson, NV in 2008 and owned a boat. I remember launching at Calville bay--I cannot believe how far the water levels have fallen--My mind it totally blown honestly. Ive seen pics of sunken boats now out of the water but had no idea it was this bad.
June 22nd the water level dropped below 1,044 feet above sea level. 6 feet below the 'active pool' level. 6 feet below the level needed to keep water going through the Hoover Dam generators.
Isn't there a certain point when the evaporation of lake Mead becomes a like a runaway train and it's expedited and it happens faster and faster because of some sort of laws of physics that I don't understand totally? I just wanted to say that for many of us who have never been to this lake before it is an amazing testimony of the changes our planet is experiencing. But to those who have grown up seeing such a beautiful lake at this stage of it's life it is definitely devistating and heart breaking.

This has been predicted for years. Back in the 1980's there were warnings about over populating the desert and the scientists were laughed at. No one wanted to hear it.
Las Vegas is the most water efficient city in the entire United States. It maybe surprising to hear but LV is actually not the reason for all of the lack of water.

WOW! Shocking, absolutely shocking....yet I never knew any of this was happening. It is not mentioned in any news or news forum in my area (Tennessee). I learned about it by stumbling on another channel that was showing before and current water levels. I'm dumbstruck!
It's sad to see even though I've been to most of the 50 states I've never had the desire to go to a desert. I'm happy when the weather is in the 40 F to 70 F degree range, once we hit the 80's I stay in my basement until October lol.

This is absolutely devastating for the US south west, i live in Lethbridge Alberta. The main water source here is the "Old Man River" it originates in the Rocky Mountains and end up draining in to Hudson's Bay in Ontario. many cities are dependant on this river, it is very fast moving and long. This year the River quite high and doing fine, but what will the future bring? Thank you for the informative video.
We've been told for the past 15 years to stop building and developing, but we didn't listen. Its our own fault that we are low on water. I've been in Vegas since 1980, and I have no sympathy because this could have been avoided.

It is entirely the states fault for letting the Colorado River be plundered into oblivion and allowing their cities to grow uncontested for decades. My guess is that in the next 15-20 years, massive parts of the SW region will become unlivable.

Lake Mead is now below active pool. I'm told this means water can no longer enter the electric turbines. You'd think this would make the "news" but no we see Jan 6 nonsense.
I used to have a houseboat docked at Callville Bay. This video is heartbreaking! Some of the best days were spent at that marina on my boat with good friends. Thank you for posting and reminding all of us how important it is to conserve our natural resources.
i envy you having your own houseboat. i remember when me and my friends from los angeles brought 2 boats, 2 wave runners and rented 2 houseboats over there. the 2 coolers in the houseboats were filled with beers and the following day almost all gone. i guess i will never see lake mead back to where it was 20 years ago in my lifetime. sad!
I used to live in the American Southwest. Since I moved out 30+ years ago, the development in the southwest has been just unbelievable. You can go on Google earth and see all the golf courses, strip malls, and cookie-cutter housing developments. And all of them depending on water. I believe that Lake Mead and Lake Powell will meet their demise a lot quicker than people can contemplate. We may even see mass migration of millions of people out of the American southwest. And no, I am not joking.
In my town in Arizona we have plenty of water not only in Clear Creek where we use to get our water but underground there's enough to last for hundreds of years!!!
Not to mention how peoples waste water.

I did work in that area 2 years ago. The amount of construction going on is unbelievable. People are completely out of their minds. They will be ghost towns soon.
When I retired 10 years ago, I moved away from the Las Vegas area to another state. The drought was a consideration. There were water restrictions back then.
Moved to Florida last year after 20 years in Vegas. I loved it and it WAS such an amazing place. Those days are gone. Glad I made it out.
Florida is in trouble. It is getting bad. Too many new houses, apartments , more apartments , condos, car washes, Gyms and fast-food joints and Self Storage facilities on every bit of land on the main roads. A 15 minute trip to visit friends now takes 45 minutes to an hour and sometimes longer during Rush Hour. With more people it brings more pollution . More cars on the road and more boats on the water......... God forbid a huge hurricane 🌀 comes along and people have to evacuate. Over 10,000 people a day move to Florida . However, I do enjoy the few and far between days on No Humidity and Temps below 65 degrees!

In the mid 80's while living in vegas. I used to ride my friends moped to the lake and spend the day cliff diving & swimming. Everything everywhere is changing so fast these days.
I was born and raised in Las Vegas jumped off Cliff’s number one number two when I was a kid I can’t go to the lake it’s so sad Las Vegas made massive water conservation to control our issue with Lake Mead California has done nothing so if you want to do a video on why the water is receding so much It California. I have a little business mostly replacing lawns with drought-tolerant native plant landscapes and it is very hard to find work. I’m definitely just getting by. I have done a lot of jobs over the last few years but nothing like what I ever would have expected. I have to think that what I do will eventually become more popular. But still most people are so attached to their green lawns. While it’s 95-100 degrees every day in the summer.

At one point, Nevada offered to build, maintain and PAY for desalination plants on the Californian coast. They declined

Sea buckthorn maybe the choice, but I did not see people in US like sea buckthorn.
The reason for refusal of desalination is that the concentration of salt that was put back into ocean might kill some fish. Israel has been doing this for years, without any problems. I guess people who live in the desert can die, but fish need more water to swim in the ocean.
@@LQQK49 with the technology that we have nowadays, they could probably remedy that. But, you're probably right.... the fish have more rights than we have.
California spent all the money on a railroad to nowhere they could have spent on desalination! I also heard a rather startling issue. LosAngeles allows as much as 80% of its usable water allotment to freely flow out to the ocean. And that figure was verified by the Dobrinich youtube channel. Check it out if you like. The guy really seems to know what he is talking about.
A few months ago we rented a small boat out of that same marina to go around Lake Mead. We decided to beach the boat on a nice beach by the inlet. A few hundred meters from the beach was a small hill. I decided to climb the hill to get a nicer view. What I found on the hill shocked me. It was a warning buoy still chained to the ground. The buoy was marked "DANGER: ROCK"
When I drove across hoover late 1979 I would never believe it would dry up to this . The water was at a all time high by lime marks showing up now on the canyon walls

When I was in school 10 years ago, I did a study for my statistics class of Lake Mead and what it provides for the southwest US, and what would happen if we entered an extended drought and nothing was done to limit the use of the water. It's sad to see the lake at emergency levels and receding 5 times faster than my worst-case scenario. For this to be sustainable, action would have had to be taken about 5 years ago. Unless I missed something, the only thing that can be done now is to pray for record snowfall in the Rockies. For 5 years straight.
Funny how students, so young innocent and honest, can see the truth. That the water was going to become a huge issue.

This is nuts, watching this!!!! People are still denying this is a problem. I was there in 2019 for EDC, and knew it was a problem. I talked to one of the workers at the dam, and at that time he said they were 50 feet above minimum. Then I came back in October 2021, and is was much worse. And now.... Holy Crap!!!! Never thought I'd see this happening!

Ouch! Looks really bad. Calville bay was once upon a time beautiful. I know. I was there in June of 1978! Lots of water for many miles. A desert paradise oasis back then. No crowds, plenty of parking and room to breath. How sad what it has become. I lived in Las Vegas Nevada from January 1978 to September 2011. Left for that same reason knowing it was gonna go dry by 2024! Good luck all with water in a very hot dry desert. No water equals no life.

Thanks for the update. Watching with much interest from Western Canada. Many years ago I went Hover Dam and could see from there the vast amount of water in lake Mead. Sure is different now I am sad to say.
I was raised in Vegas for most of my life all my children were born in Vegas and this just breaks my heart. I grew up with fun memories of going to the lake on the weekends and having so Much fun.
I live in Henderson and we were just out there a couple of days ago and it Sickens me.. Calville was our boat launch.. We sold our boat last year.. Last summer the lines at the Marina there were 3 and 4 hours just to get in or out.. The desert is taking back its land..
You do know the lake is at inactive status.. That is the 2nd of 3 stages.. stage 3 deadpool.. That means the lake is stagnant like an half empty pool in a backyard.. Deadpool means they cannot release water.. And everything will die..

I am so glad we sold our Vegas house in 2019 for a hefty profit. We gave Vegas 12 years and never once did the water come back...so we saw the red flag and left while we still had equity.
I suggest if you live there...sell your house and relocate while you still have value in hour home.

I've been obsessed with this problem. It's amazing to me how little National attention this is getting. Living in Buffalo, NY ,in between two of the Great Lakes ,water is not a problem here. Unfortunately the water of Lake mead supplies drinking water, power and most importantly irrigation for crops in the southwestern US. Those crops eventually come to the Northeast when our short growing season comes to an end. This is a truly scary problem. It will affect our whole country sooner than later. I fear it already is with increasing food prices. I applaud your Videos. They are well thought out and you're articulate with your message. Please keep showing what is going on out west. Thank you for showing the rest of the country what's going on our there!
I can’t agree more with what you said. Overpopulated areas in these drought stricken regions are draining the precious resources that are left. Toppled with climate change we are in trouble. I used to think clients change was a political issue which in a lot of ways certain parties run on it. The sad realty is no one actually addresses why were are experiencing climate change so rapidly. They talk about cars, planes and fossil fuels but did you know Cattle Ranching is the leading cause to greenhouse gasses. It heats up the earths core like a heat getting trapped in a car that can’t get out. I always thought it was BS tell I watched a documentary with hard research and statistics no one what’s to talk about. Because if that did it would involve telling people they would need to change their eating habits and I guess you can’t do that. Don’t get me wrong I am no Vegan myself and cheese burgers and steaks as much as anyone but do you know how much water and corn it takes to feed a cow to then raise it kill and feed it to humans? I encourage everyone who reads this to go and watch Cowspiracy on Netflix. It will change the way you look at things. I am not giving up meat because we are conditioned to eat it sense we were young but going to eat a little less of it and grow my own garden to feed my family. Time for everyone to get smart grow a Victory garden and stick up on non perishables.

Thanks for the update. When lived in California, I often visited Las Vegas and the Lake Mead. It was about 20 years ago. I am so sad to see what is going on in and around the lake. I hope the rain comes back and refill the lake and the Hoover Dam, so the people live there will be safe.
Snow, snow is required to refill the lake. Rain would be nice however and the monsoons over past decade have been a bit short.

When I was 10 yrs old I spent a month during the summer at my aunt's home in Boulder City. I learned how to swim there at the local community pool. Almost everyday me and my cousin would to go the Hoover Dam visitor center in Boulder to watch the free movie of the construction of the dam. My Uncle was a tour guide at the dam so we got to walk through side alleys in the dam, walk on the generator floor, stand at the exit of the by-pass tunnel on the down stream side.
I live near the Flaming Gorge Dam on the upper Colorado river basin. Before 9/11 you could take a self guided tour through the dam and no one was any where to be seen. The only thing between you and the generators at the bottom was a pony wall with a 4' plex-e glass that any able bodied person could climb over it they wanted to.

This is the first time for me watching your channel. Your voice is very soothing. Thank you for mentioning that some people would be challenged walking that far to the marina (someone like me). In the 60's we used to live in Vegas, and the heat didn't bother me as a kid. Lots of memories with our Lone Star boat on Lake Mead. Now retired and living in Portland, Oregon where it tends to be much cooler.

My family and I frequented Lake Mead for 25 years. I am so sorry this has happened to the Lake and its people. This is so very sad.
Its occuring all over the SW united State. The REAL reason why migrants were moving up from South Central south america was the drought is impacting that country. The entire Pacific Ocean is ina veery very serios Lanina driven by ever increasing heat uptake from the atmphere. The drought will be perment with some minor changes in the next cycle but the SW is turning into another Abu Debia.

The minimum surface elevation needed to generate power at the Hoover Dam is 1,050 feet. Below that is an "inactive pool" where no power can be geneated. The "dead pool" happens at 895 feet when no water can flow out of the reservoir. . . We shall see soon eough, but it doesn't look good.

Rain won't do anything. The water source is the snopack on the Rockies which is vanishing due to a warming climate. Unless that changes and we have mulitple good years of snowpack rebuilding Meade is finished.

The water shuttle takes people and supplies from the dock to the houseboats and back that are anchored out or too far to walk to. The big blocks are the mooring stations to which the docks and Marina are anchored. The lady that told you they will keep moving the Marina as far as needed was wrong. They will move it as far as possible. There will be a point (coming soon) that they will NOT be able to move the Marina anymore. When that day comes you will be telling the last of the story of a dying lake. RIP Lake Mead!

Yep each time they move the docks they have to extend power, fuel, sewer and walkways, it gets very costly!

I'm watching from Australia, so I was oblivious to what's happening at lake Meade. I've just been looking at Google Earth and the historical images and it's frightening how far the water level has dropped recent years.
Things are drying up on the Colorado river which actually provides water not just to Nevada, but California, Arizona, New Mexico and Utah!

A woman in a grocery store the other day told me she was kind of shocked by how high the price of almonds has gotten. I said, "Wait until they tell the almond growers they have to take half their acreage out of production due to water restrictions. You'll think today's price was a bargain."
Almonds are a crop that should have NEVER been farmed in the regions of the central valley to start with,,they are a heavy cause of water depletion.. awwww you will have to pay more for an exotic nut..

Nevada does not see rain in the summer. most of its moisture comes in the form of snow melt and as Global Climate Change warms the planet, snow levels are dropping FAST. Global water scarcity and Global famine is next.

I grew up in Henderson 9 miles from Vegas Wash. Loved the lake we had a boat spent countless hours there. Later as an adult living in California I would take my family and our boat to Lake Mead so my kids could see this spectacular lake.
What we are actually watching here is the very start of the end as it relates to highly public areas and the effects of global warming and the drought caused by global warming. It's sad but not unexpected. Just imagine how empty that lake will be in the coming years. BTW, for those of you thinking a good rain will help the situation, no. California weathermen have already pubically stated it would take several years of constant rain to refill that lake to past levels. That lake is dead and will remain dead until the next ice age. Thank you for sharing. Before long, this lake will be closed to the public so it's great you were able to get some last minute footage.

I've also been watching Sin City Outdoors on this subject and they were showing how dangerous it is boating out on the lake now. Many areas of the lake (even in the middle) have gotten so shallow that boats are bottoming out! Just crazy to see this!

I used to snowbird to lake Las Vegas to get away from the Canadian winters. I am so saddened to see how bad the drop in water level of lake mead has gotten. It’s a somber sight to see such a beautiful oasis meet this kind of end. I lived at “The V” community on the north shore and I was so sad to sell and leave. I miss it terribly!
Wow! This is crazy. I was out there in 2009 and never dreamed that Lake Mead could be this low.
I study Anthropocentric Climate Change. Earth is over heating! Its causing the jet stream to shift north. The Jet stream helps to pull moisture off the Pacitic and bring it inland during a ELNINO. Right now the Pacific is in a LANINA so..that ALWAYS denies some moisture away from the South Pacific and diverts the Jet streams and pacific moisture into Washignton. Our state was slammed with LOTS of moisture and one horrific Atmospheric River that did horrible amount of flooding and damage.

If you look at a timelapse satelite view of Lake Mead from 1980 to 2000 there is barely any change. But from 2000 to the present day it look as if somebody flick a switch; or perhaps pull out a plug. It's terrifiying how fast the water level is dropping!!!

All they have to do is close the dam until it recovers. They could do it but they are creating a shortage of EVERYTHING right now. It will be interesting to see how crazy people go before the psychological torture becomes boring to the powers that be at the moment.
They have. Multiple times over a decade now but no one believed or listened. People have been screaming about getting water usage under control since the '90's and people just pointed at the '80's and said it would be fine. Then the '00's happened and people said it again and once again they were told to stop being hysterical. Then the 10's came along and some people listened but others said things would turn around "any day now."
Now we're sitting here in the muck of a dried lake bed being reclaimed by a desert and NOW people are seeing the issue. The levels are only going to drop faster and faster from here on out... What you're looking at is basically a microcosm of climate change and no one is going to take that seriously either until things look just as bad as this.
This is absolutely insane. I visited Lake Mead last year and thought that the water level then was already very low compared to what I saw the very first time I went in 2014. This is so sad yet mindboggling to see. I did my own little research and found that this drought is caused by a condition called La Nina, so for now we can only hope that rain will return in the rainy seasons. So insane to see this though; I never took into account how much the lake dried up until this video..

Great video, I was able to visit Lake Mead and Hoover Dam in May. I was at the part of Lake closer to Boulder City.
I am so glad that I live in Portland Oregon. Plenty of water and cloud cover. Every lake and river is full. There is wildlife everywhere
ASTOUNDING!! I used to live in Vegas, and I returned for the first time in December 2020, and was amazed at how low the lake was then!!! I would consider moving back to Vegas, but I would never buy a house there. That city is going dry!! And as low as that lake is getting, I don't even want to think about the drinking water quality.
Wow! I lived in Henderson, NV in 2008 and owned a boat. I remember launching at Calville bay--I cannot believe how far the water levels have fallen--My mind it totally blown honestly. Ive seen pics of sunken boats now out of the water but had no idea it was this bad.
June 22nd the water level dropped below 1,044 feet above sea level. 6 feet below the 'active pool' level. 6 feet below the level needed to keep water going through the Hoover Dam generators.

Dead pool level is 950 feet, generators haven't stopped working yet but we will reach that level real soon

Isn't there a certain point when the evaporation of lake Mead becomes a like a runaway train and it's expedited and it happens faster and faster because of some sort of laws of physics that I don't understand totally? I just wanted to say that for many of us who have never been to this lake before it is an amazing testimony of the changes our planet is experiencing. But to those who have grown up seeing such a beautiful lake at this stage of it's life it is definitely devistating and heart breaking.

Las Vegas is the most water efficient city in the entire United States. It maybe surprising to hear but LV is actually not the reason for all of the lack of water.

WOW! Shocking, absolutely shocking....yet I never knew any of this was happening. It is not mentioned in any news or news forum in my area (Tennessee). I learned about it by stumbling on another channel that was showing before and current water levels. I'm dumbstruck!

It's sad to see even though I've been to most of the 50 states I've never had the desire to go to a desert. I'm happy when the weather is in the 40 F to 70 F degree range, once we hit the 80's I stay in my basement until October lol.

This is absolutely devastating for the US south west, i live in Lethbridge Alberta. The main water source here is the "Old Man River" it originates in the Rocky Mountains and end up draining in to Hudson's Bay in Ontario. many cities are dependant on this river, it is very fast moving and long. This year the River quite high and doing fine, but what will the future bring? Thank you for the informative video.

We've been told for the past 15 years to stop building and developing, but we didn't listen. Its our own fault that we are low on water. I've been in Vegas since 1980, and I have no sympathy because this could have been avoided.

Definitely agree. I personally think we should shut off any and all water to Mead and possibly even Powell. Don’t build where there are no natural resources.
The lake depends on snow melt from Utah and Colorado. Not much snow the past few years. Pray for snow this winter--and beyond.
@@lizzygraham748 Yeah I don't think Divine Intervention is going to pull the SW out of the aridification. It is entirely the states fault for letting the Colorado River be plundered into oblivion and allowing their cities to grow uncontested for decades. My guess is that in the next 15-20 years, massive parts of the SW region will become unlivable.

Great video and really like your content and channel. I'm wondering if they are speeding up the flow of water through the dam and storing some of that power for later use? It just seems like lake Mead is shrinking so fast. My guess is the drought is getting even worse. I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to see the progression here. Pretty sure it's going to turn into a Dead Pool in short order
A 'heads up' for you. You can't store up hydro power. It's produced and powers up the grid. Solar power can be stored in batteries.
They say that they are using mead to keep lake Powell up and running!
