- William Nylander, Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews all had there media day today. It seems that the leafs still have confidence in the group, however, I still think a retool is necessary to move around pieces and free up cap space. William Nylander expressed today how great of a person Mitch Marner is and how he is loved in the locker room. Toronto Media can be tough on players at times and was great to see how all the players handled the questions today. I have seen in comments of some fans asking for a mock trade including Calgary Flames fans. Comment below if you would like me to do one and share it with you all.

I get it but look how close the puck was to samsonov. Everybody made mistakes. He couldve poked when pasta switched to backhand because tbh with that much speed its 1 move and done . Second when he noticed his team was sleeping and the dump went towards his dive on the puck. Reillys effort also was mind boggling. Get your Fuckin legs moving
Blame Marner is the usual excuse for those who don’t see the whole play. From the crease out, it’s Samsonov, then Reilly. Blame Marner (who covers the point man), blame Nylander for not covering the Center of the ice where Pasta was allowed to skate in without pressure.

@@guyh.4121 I get it, you want to blame Samsonov and Reilly. Again, this is OT in a game 7 and Marner lets Pastrnak go, untouched. Marner was in front of Pastrnak near the Bruins blue line but doesn’t even keep his legs moving. The effort is mind boggling.
You need 4 lines in the playoffs.
The Toronto media is not hard on players “sometimes” they literally destroy careers! It’s the toughest market to play in. Many players do much better when they get traded to another team.

There are players with similar cap hits that produce way more so you can win. JT got 65 pts this year. He should be a 100pt player making that much money. If he had 7pts in the series instead. They win the series. A player with that cap hit should be producing way more. And they would have won.

Yeah definitely agree. If the leafs had Mackinnon who is clearly a game changer, they would be in a different position right now. However the core 4 the leafs have right now takes more than half of there salary cap. There are some overpaid contracts…

Replacing Jt with an elite producer could have meant a few more points. A few more pp goals. And that would have been enough to tilt the series.

Wrong! You can't win without puck movers on the blueline. Sure Mack can go coast to coast, but how many times do you think that will actually work? The leafs blueline is the (not defensively) is their fatal flaw.

I believe that all four players would perform well if they had a strong and capable blueline supporting them. Their current struggle lies in the fact that they take a long time to set up their breakout, which gives the opposing team ample time to set up their forecheck. Consequently, the core 4 doesn't work in the current cap system. However, if they have enough cap space to support two or three of them, they could potentially work well together.
To be honest, I think the team should take a good look at trading JT, Marner, and maybe even Rielly. I mean, what's Rielly doing as an "offensive defensemen"? He's not generating any offense from the point, he's not good defensively and he's not even a good pp qb. He's just a guy who can skate and make some tape to tape passes.
Moving on, I think they need to focus on re-signing Domi and Bert, and try to snag players like Montour, Tanev, and Pesce in the offseason. They also need a veteran backup or starter to play alongside Woll. And depending on how Minten develops, they might need to find a second-line center who's got a strong two-way game with scoring upside to play with Willy. Willy plays well with physical "grinder-types", which allows Willy can concentrate on creating offense. I think a center like Trocheck would be perfect.
But hey, all this depends on how the trades go. Next year might need to be a reset year, but it should only last for one season. Despite the team's recent playoff setbacks, there is still hope for their future. This was evident in games 5-7, despite the "absences" of JT, Rielly, and Marner.

You need 20 goal scorers with size and a 30 goal scorer with size. You see Toronto drafted for skill over size with Dubas that was a mistake. Playoffs takes some size throughout the lineup. Hopefully woll being payed 750 tho keeps getting better. Peace ✌️ 😎.

The Leafs were never built as a Playoff team. They were built as a Puck Possession team which only worked with the Bowman Red Wings, because they also had gritty guys to play the Cycle game which happens in the playoffs. The Leafs built by Dubas don’t have Cycle players. In his likely Last presser(thank God) Keefe said Boston had “Structure” which is code for “Coaching”, and they just waited for the Leafs to make mistakes. Boston has the players needed for that type of game including the Cycle game which you’ll see in all the remaining teams. The real problem isn’t the so called Core 4. It’s the piss poor Management that led to that Cores existence.
1) Dubas as his first act makes a splash, signs Tavares even thought the Leafs were #3 in scoring in the NHL (he’s done the very same in Pitt with Karlsson)
2) Fall of 2018 he had the chance to get a true #1 D man from Carolina but resigned Nylander instead( Leafs were Top 5 in scoring). Pesce, or Slavin we’re available.
3) Gets rid of Gritty Kahdri because of Media Pressure only to see him be gritty and win a Cup.
4) overpays Mathews and Marner, never getting a #1 D man and relying on a defensive liability Reilly.
There’s lots more but in the end, I don’t blame players for getting their money But the Management caved and gave it to them. Now Mathews is making bank for many years and Nylander is Really making bank for 8 yrs. Marner is a whipping boy mainly because he’s on the ice so much. People say get rid of him. Well without Marner, Mathews doesn’t win all those trophies because look at Mathews career goals number and Marner’s assisting on those goals. Mathews has something like 370, and Marner’s assisted on almost 340 of those goals. So yes by all means get rid of Marner and replace him with Domi who’s also a defensive liability.

567I have many questions and thoughts about the Leaf's. Their loses , their attitude and their performance over the last (2024-1967=) 57years. But what sadly comes to mind is my years of playing street hockey for fun! After 82 games per season, Millions of dollars in costs, salaries, maintenance, travel charges, food costs, equipment replacement. 2023-2024 season came down to a line I have use many many a time playing street hockey for fun. NEXT GOAL WINS. Good thing playing is still fun, but than as a fan we aren't playing are we, nor are we getting paid. We are just the poor saps that are paying to watch these "Gold Diggers" bankrupt us while we wait for some miracle to happen.567

Forget Junior Hockey, the Leafs are stuck in high school. The NHL is a business. There aren't six teams anymore. Vegas didn't win a cup by being loyal to their players and giving them 'a chance'. They got the players they needed to win, even if it meant dumping the Face of the Franchise.
Nylander and Matthews together aren’t enough. They aren’t built for playoffs. Neither player is gritty and will do the hard things in the corners. Nylanders goals this series were either lucky or he was in the right place, right time. I say get rid of all 4 of them and get a crap ton of depth.

There was only two, real major issues that the Leafs encountered.. 1. Our Lack of Team defense was an issue in the first few games vs Bruins.. (that is a coaching issue) he has not been able to get this team to play proper defense the entire time he has been here.. That difference, could have gotten us one or two more games before our back was to the wall.. This is a FACT...... 2, Our Powerplay.. Not adjusting our powerplay to an entirely new zone entry and attack is again ( COACHING )... This team should have raced to the blue line with speed and chased a dump in,,,, then force point shots while crashing the net... They failed to adjust and we missed out on maybe, 15 more goals which would have ended this series... In Every other area, the Leafs matched or exceeded Bruins play... How do we know this --(((we went to game Seven OT)))... DEFENSE & A PP ADJUSTMENT was the difference.... OVERTIME IN GAME SEVEN.... Only because we played two very bad defensive games!! Thats what killed us and that is COACHING... No One player could change that... Period This Team Is Close.. THis is NOT AN EASY DIVISON.. The Finals have come from our division every season for how Long????? TEAM DEFENSE would have been the difference the entire time but weve never seen it until the last 3 games this series!!! FINALLY THE LEAFS PLAYED SOLID TEAM DEFENSE.... WE SEEN IT MATTERS but then again (coaching failed to adjust the PP).. that is your difference Folks.
Babcock tried to teach them def when they were kids. They didnt learn and still havent. DUBASS gave away the farm before they proved themselves in the playoffs. Too late now. Never found a goalie to carry the team, Andrrson was much better then what they have had since. And they have never gotten the stud def man.
