  • Today at Ewetopia Farms, we answer questions put forth by a viewer requesting that we talk about the sheep breeds we have and why we chose them. We talk about our foray into using a Texel ram and investing in a Rideau Arcott flock and how that graduated into focusing on Suffolk and Poll Dorset sheep over time.
    Sheep and sheep farming is our passion and we hope that the love we have for what we do is obvious to you the viewers. Our operation is a large scale, registered Suffolk and Poll Dorset sheep farm combining the best of pasture and confinement to manage the flock for maximum comfort, minimal stress, and producing a consistent, very high quality product. Our focus is on providing breeding stock for sale to other sheep producers. All our sheep are treated with the utmost compassion which I think will become evident as you join us on our daily rounds on our working sheep farm in eastern Ontario, Canada.
    I hope you enjoy this video. If you would like to follow along with us and experience life on a real live sheep farm on a daily basis, please subscribe so that you don't miss a single episode!
    Thank you for taking the time to watch! We love to hear from you so be sure to leave a comment as well.
    Thank you!

    Good evening Arnie and Lynn. It was school today on the farm and I have always liked school. The new mama in the jug looks quite proud of her ram lamb as she should be. Very cool that the stragglers have produced some beauties and that ram lamb has such a handsome face. He looks perfect like a postcard. And he was a big boy at 15 pounds. And our regal mama has done a wonderful job feeding her babies. They are right on schedule. Very interesting to hear about the reasons for your past choices in sheep. Meat qualities size etc. I can definitely understand getting overwhelmed with too many lambs especially if the lambs were out of the Ying Yang. 🤣🤣. How exhausting. I had to laugh at the comment about chickens who liked to sit on your lap as opposed to the egg layers. I agree let me have the time to enjoy the animals. And Lambert is a perfect example.The small gates Arnie made with the initials are beautiful. Such nice work. You two had a good conversation at the end of the video. When Arnie said size of carcass I remember him comparing the Suffolk ewes to king size beds for the lambs I loved that analogy. Thanks for the lessons. Big hugs to you both. 🥰🥰🥰🥰

      I like school days too. I feel they are important in letting people understand why we do the things we do. We all have our varying reasons which make more sense when explained.🥰🥰🥰🥰

    This is a fantastic educational vlog resulting from a viewer query. For me there were a number of big lightbulb moments including the differing developmental rates of the quality of your 2breeds, the polled/poll issue, the texel influence (texels are big in UK) and the big difference between our Dorset stock bought from a stud that. Was quality not a production line. Thank you Lynn for linking the points altogether and thank you Arnie for the rapid fire Q and A review to sum up the issues. (And Andre for the mystery and humour regarding the $11 000 offer for Gladiator. I think your used rams would be good value as they have lived well but have been used likely. Would have been humorous to string Andre along!)

      Thanks Susan. Andre is quite the character! He bought a Gladiator son from us and despite haggling over the price with us, lol, I think he was very pleased with the results. So he is a big Gladiator fan 🙂.

    Lamb death is such a real thing, I went from not losing any to bringing in a flock where I lost 20% and holy heck the emotional toll isn’t something you can be prepared for. I spent so many nights in the barn crying along side a grieving mom

    • @EwetopiaFarms
      @EwetopiaFarms  Рік тому +1

      Yes, lamb death is devastating for everyone involved. But so is a ewe or ram dying or anything for that matter. Unfortunately, in farming, you see more death than anyone should have to see. It can be very upsetting and hard to deal with at times.
