Jim Shooter knew how to create a larger world. When one event happens in one issue it affects everything else in the other issues of comics. This was the blueprint of what would be the Marvel cinematic universe of today.
Wow, the fact you got Jim Shooter shows that you are getting more and more well known.
This interview was so good and I'm so happy that Mr Shooter is doing well. He did alot for Transformers and for us❤❤
I appreciate that a lot! Thanks! Till all are one!
@@RodimusPrimal Till All Are 1
There will never be another time like the 80's, and Jim Shooter had his hand in some of the best parts of it. The amount of childhoods that man shaped is staggering and we thank him for it.
Half a million copies sold... those are the numbers today's comic book industry would kill for!
I wanna know what I did that made you block me on Twitter
Jim Shooter is probably *the* comic book guy, haha. Amazing that you got the chance to interview the man himself! So many neato stories we get to know now.
He'd certainly does, KAD3N!😄
Well, every single one of these stories is well known in the sense that Shooter has told and re-told them every single interview. Was sort of hoping the interview would ask some fresh and new question (Jim probably did too) but you could tell Rodimus wasn't too familiar and had only basically educated himself on the most basic bullet points of Shooter's career. That's fine, but I feel if you're going to interview someone of that stature, you should read every interview with the man you can possibly fine. It was cringe when he said to Jim he "must have invigorated DC" as it showed he knew nothing about the abuse from Weisinger- Shooter himself seemed to bristle a bit. Sigh.
Bo Derek as the Dazzler? GD that would've been hot.
Wow that man is sharp very much still has it
Indeed he does. Still has a passion for the industry too!
@@RodimusPrimal I'm glad you mentioned the X-O Manowar/Iron Man In Heavy Metal video game at 36:35. Some people forget that 2 tie-in issues were published on June 26th and July 3rd, 1996. They were both written by Fabian Nicieza.
"The Reality Alchemists" was drawn by Andy Smith and "The Interlock Crunch" was pencilled by Tom Grindberg. These were the last original Valiant Universe comics released before the VH-2 reboot was attempted on October 23rd, 1996.
Great interview. Really enjoyed Jim's perspective on storytelling. Not as much transformers talk but I didnt care. Really cool
I can't think of anyone in pop culture UA-cam who would give Mr Shooter the time of day much less a chance to tell his side of the story. This is an awesome video thank you
This was good interview but there are literally dozens of interviews with the Trouble-Shooter, including one last year on Comic Book Historians that was like 6 hours 🤤😂
Jim Shooter, to me, is second tallest giant in the comics industry of creators from any era, next to Jack Kirby (although, The King was short;-)) I have been and always will be a comics fan. When I was about 15 or 16, I sent in some terrible drawings to Marvel Comics and some time later, I get a beautiful rejection letter but encouraging to be sure from none other than BIG Jim Shooter telling me to keep it at but not there yet...I kept that letter and when I enlisted in the U.S. Army, my mom put all of my drawings and such papers in a large brown envelop which I did not see for the longest time...long story short, it was not summer of 2009, a few years after I had retired from the Army, when my mom gave me that brown envelope containing drawings from my high school days and as I went through all the contents of the envelope, there it was! Jim Shooter's envelope containing his letter address to me on the Spider-Man letterhead and Jim's signature. What a nostalgic moment for me. Fast forward about 5 years and much of my art from high school on, which I had stored in several boxes, were destroyed...including Jim Shooter's letter. I wish I had digitized it but never did. True story. Now, is time to realize my comics fan dream of creating comics and soon I will as I prepare my AGL COMICS debut on Kickstarter, soon... AGL
Thank you Rodimus for this great interview! Never has Marvel Comics needed someone like Jim to come back right now and raise it out of the toilet. I know he'd never be back in all likelihood, but he would be the one to turn things around.
Yeah,he'd never come back, creative people don't like someone like Shooter managing them like he did, they're kinda-WINY. LOL.
Another Legend!🥰
Absolutely fantastic interview! Thank you!
Great interview. Not a massive amount about Transformers and Shooter seemed most enthusiastic about Circuit Breaker but that's fine by me ... I loved Secret Wars and I loved Shooter's administration and always enjoy reading about his interactions with writers and artists. The Dazzler/Bo Derek movie thing was new to me as well.
BAM! TODAYS M Y BDAY!
Happy Birthday!
Wham blam !! Happy birthday !
Good stuff
It's so fascinating how different toy lines back in the day. Villains don't sell. The lack of girl characters in action toylines. It's something that I can't frankly couldn't imagine growing up. Props to the people who pushed for Hasbro to push their limits that ultimately strengthened the toy brands.
And oof that bit with the illegitimate child of Spider-Man...sounds like a Spanish telenovela and not a comic fr😭
Amazing interview! Extremely insightful for a newbie like me ^^
Fortunately that did not happen with Spider-Man, but some really bad things did after that.
Yeah, I find that line of thinking baffling. My favourite Transformers were always the Decepticons, and I wished an Arcee toy had been made back when the 1986 movie came out. Even to this day there are toy companies who insist that female characters don't sell, which is a complete lie.
@@Rocket1377 I think my first Transformers toy must've been Armada Skywarp, which I still think has a rad design.
Wow, you scored an interview with Jim Shooter! Cool 👍🏆
Took me too much time to get to watching this, but it was worth it. Absolute legend, great storyteller. Loved it. Great interview RP!
Wow, this was such an interesting interview! Everything that happened behind the scenes!
This was a great interview! Thank you to both of you!
Good interview!
Another great interview thank you !
Thanks!
What a great interview 👍🏻
Thanks!

John Byrne: *Going all Burning Godzilla when he hears about another Jim Shooter interview today*
Yeah I've heard he has a burning hatred for Jim. Shame but I guess it's to be expected when you have a stern boss.
@@RodimusPrimal And an almighty ass that earned a spot on Jack Kirby’s shitlist for subjecting one of his characters in an Action Comics storyline involving a porno. Was the worst Superman thing that had ever existed until Micheal Bendis came.
No, not like that.
Fuck John Byrne. He thinks he’s the smartest in the room and above reproach, granted the man is talented, but he’s an ass. Those old message boards of his showed me that.
@@rayvenkman2087 Yeah, I have this issue - he made Big Barda and Supes make a p*rno ( off-panel thankfully ).
@@RodimusPrimal Yeah, someone who makes you-HOLD-onto your deadlines, doesn't put up with prima-donas,divas or pouting creators. When I was in the army people hated, dispised &&&holes, demanding and sgts who didn't let you get away with anything. Hated,yes,but-RESPECTED. The sgts everyone liked were push overs, simps and wanted to be liked by everyone ( which is impossible ) so when I made sgt,I had to decide whether I wanted to be liked or respected.I chose-RESPECTED. LOL.
That's cool.
There’s a terrific 2 page article in Dark Dominion #2 (“Haunts Of The Very Rich Part Two: Let There Be Light!”) where Jim discusses the circumstances surrounding the Marvel lawsuit. It includes excerpts from the Honorable Michael B. Mukasey’s opinion on Marvel suing for a temporary injunction, claiming that WARRIORS OF PLASM was an infringement on their title Plasmer.
It’s important to emphasize Plasm began as a zero issue released as trading cards. I'm unaware of the specific date when the boxes were released but the debut DEFIANT issue was sold on August 3rd, 1993 while Plasmer was introduced on September 28th, 1993.
As he put it, Marvel’s real purpose was to cost DEFIANT more than $200,000 and waste literally hundreds of man-hours. If the judge hadn’t seen the obvious truth, those lying weasels would have put him out of business claiming triple damages.
The moral of this story about rising up and striving again is just as inspiring today as it was 30 years ago. By the way, the Dark Phoenix Saga technically begins at Uncanny X-Men #129 ("God Spare the Child...") which was edited by Roger Stern.
I can confirm Jim Salicrup was indeed Chris Claremont’s editor for all the pivotal Jean Grey corruption scenes from #132 ("And Hellfire Is Their Name") up to #137 (“The Fate of the Phoenix”). Louise Jones took over the following month as the new editor with issue 138 (“Elegy”) featuring Cyclops’ exit.
HEY Firebrothers got hacked!!!
Is *J. Jonah Jameson* made some sloppy slanderous report newspaper about #TransformersG1 Autobots & Decepticon, including #SpiderMan at *_Transformers_* marvel comic book, RodimusPrimal?
Just some constructive criticism said with respect, but I feel it's your responsibility Rodimus to be better educated/do better research when you have an interview like this. So many times you didn't know the trajectory or said something that was the complete opposite of what happened in Shooter's career... just glossing over a Wikipedia entry isn't enough. There are so so many Jim Shooter interviews and transcripts you should have crammed. I also feel referencing "The Dark Knight" is.... too fanboyish for someone trying to conduct an adult interview.
I love the female action figures, but let's be honest... they just don't sell that well. I always see female action figures left on the store shelves and often go to clearance.
Disney fixing Marvel?🤣
