Dirt Bike Magazine tests the 2021 KTM 350EXC-F on some local trails in Southern California. Here are some of the details below.
• UPDATED WP XPLOR forks now feature an external preload adjuster as standard, making spring preload adjustments for terrain and rider preference quick and easy.
• WP XPLOR rear shock with PDS (Progressive Damping System) technology features a second damping piston in combination with a closed cup towards the end of the stroke, supported by a progressive shock spring, to produce unmatched dual-sport performance.
• High-tech, lightweight chrome-moly steel frame with carefully calculated flex parameters provides a great blend of comfort, stability and precision.
• Single-piece cast aluminum swingarm is manufactured using a gravity die-cast production process, offering exceptional strength at the lowest possible weight.
• Light engine cases with a centralized shaft configuration move the crankshaft closer to the bike’s center of gravity for light handling and quick responsiveness.
• Reinforced clutch cover for improved resistance against impacts in rocky terrain.
• 6-speed wide ratio transmission is perfectly suited for road and offroad duty.
• Bodywork features a slim design for excellent comfort and freedom of movement, putting the rider in complete control.
• Air box and air boot designed to provide maximum protection of the air filter against soiling and better airflow for increased performance. Air filter can be accessed without tools for quick servicing.
• Hydraulic Brembo clutch system offers highly controllable modulation of the clutch and light operation, minimizing fatigue on demanding rides.
• High-tech Brembo brakes have always been standard equipment on KTM offroad machines and are combined with lightweight Wave discs to offer incredible braking power and feel.

The footage of the 350 was well shot ,the PDS is also a lot simpler to maintain ( no linKage bearings and seals) plus you can remove the rear shock in a couple of mins with a bit of wriggle jiggle 👍
We need an east coast dirtbike mag. These smooth soft rolling trails are NOTHING like the abuse we put bikes through on the east coast rocks and roots and super tight trails
Warner, I’ve ridden ALL over the U.S. during my career in the U.S. Army and there is a reason no east coast magazine of any substantce exists as I see it-real mountains with huge loose rocks which can tear apart a motorcycle and kill the rider in seconds if you don’t watch what you are doing-or don’t have the skills to be riding there. Moreover, there are local trails which intertwine between conifers at altitudes which make picking up a bike a real exercise after several hours. I found riding out east to be truly enjoyable and challenging. However, the truly hairy life threatening enduro riding of the Rockies and Alaska SIMPLY DO NOT PHYSICALLY EXIST back East. This is not to say there isn’t challenging , fun, beautiful riding back east because there is! However, there are A LOT of incredibly dangerous rocky steep trails west of the Mississippi which gain in altitude far above anything the east could remotely offer to rider’s! I recall a ride with a “kind local” on a local trail where we were on the spine of a 10,000+ foot mountain, it was single track with huge loose rocks, others which had to be dodged, the climb was extremely steep but the most challenging part was the drop off on the right. It was approximately 4,000+ feet down a 70 plus degree slope with cliffs mixed in. The left was a paltry drop at roughly the same angle but it only dropped 500-700 feet. On this trail, if the rider lost it and started down either side, the prospect of continuing to live was nil! I think they do these magazines out west because as fun, challenging and beautiful as east coast riding is, it has nothing which western and Alaskan riding don’t have in larger numbers and far more serious conditions-including riding between trees. I’ve never understood after what I experienced, why west coast reviews are only in the desert or somewhere in southern Utah. I can personally testify there are a lot of very hairy hard to access trails which western locals don’t freely share with outsiders and their difficulty level simply cannot be attained back east. Having said all this I agree with you. Something which highlights the best of eastern riding would be a nice appreciated addition in some form of a riding publication. Safe trails and have fun!

I bought a 350 5 months ago. It’s my first dual sport. I thought I maybe paid too much but it’s not becoming apparent I got the right bike. The bike is freakin awesome on single track or putting around with my kids on the trail
How does this compare with the much heavier (but cheaper), Honda 300 CRF-L?

Can someone who just got their MC license enjoy the 350? There are no deals on the Honda, but I may be able to get one on the Beta.
Good stuff about the sprockets and speeds..I have a husky Fe350s and they are spot on about the high rpm's at 60mph with stock 52 tooth rear, but the bike is amazing!

Only as fast as a 125 motocrosser . Once finished a national enduro back in 1978 on 125 penton , last year before KTM took over. Finished 5th overall and cleaned one tight section faster than any other rider in the event. So the speed of a 125 motocross even back in 1978 could kick ass if the rider had good skill set.

@@stmboat Penton was the pre curser to KTM . The dual sports today the higher level ones like KTM and Husqvarna are much more sensitively suspended than the regular motocrossers from the 70's. You would moto cross the same bike you ran an enduro with back then , just put a plate on it . It was no where near as refined and discerned into segments like dual sport, motocrosser , enduro bikes, adventure bikes , as it is today.

The map switch is news to me... I thought that was only on the XCF-W models?
It was on all the European models but didn't get a pass in the US for any of the plated bikes due to emissions. Looks like they finally solved that for '21

@@Dashriprock4 the issue is wage stagnation and increased cost of living. Us younger people have less disposable income due to the sheer cost of existing these days. Adjusted for inflation the bikes are actually on track with what they were charging back in the 80's and 90's
Ha.... it’s a BARGAIN compared to high end Mountain bikes ESPECIALLY the new Specialized e-bikes. I am getting this KTM probably this week....

I just bout one not even a week ago all ready had a few problems I received the bike on the 4 28 and the bike had engine problem. So KTM sent me the last motor they could find I'm n florida and it shipped from California.they had my bike back togather and at my house in less than 30 hours. Bike runs so smooth but I think I'm missing the map switch if they come on all models

For the extra cost, is this worth it over the Honda CRF 300L?
This is a completely different class of bike. There really is no comparison.

Don't worry about service on these or that they are fragile......my Bro has 14K and nothing but 2 valve checks. Tuner and a FMF muffler and it hauls like a 450.
what did he find each time, regarding the clearances?

How about the maintenance?...
16 hour oil changes, valves, top end at 100-200 hours, they are intense
why would someone get a 350 instead of the 500.. they are almost identical in weight.. 12 lb difference for an extra 150 cc

@@tieoneon1614 good response but if you only needed the bike for tight technical trails you wouldn't get an EXC. The whole purpose of the dual sport is to do both on and off road. The 350 doesn't have enough power for on road imo. If there was a significant price difference between the two it would make more sense to go for the 350... however.. might as well just get the 500
@@Legacyyyyyyyyyyyyyy U need plated bikes to ride a lot of areas. Especially Jeep Trails like this video and throughout the Rockies and Southwest. Dirt bikes are not comfortable riding over 65mph on pavement anyway, but IF u are then yeah the 500 is better option. But 450/500cc bikes are not as fun as smaller cc when trail riding cuz of the characteristics of the motor. Big motors want to spin, loop or stall at slow speeds. Iv had a ton of dirt bikes, my 250's were always the most fun and didnt need giant desert tanks to ride 100 miles in a day. What I prefer now is trucking to an area, off load on backroads and explore with a smaller dual sport. Saves all your energy for the fun riding and can bring everything with u via truck. Just my opinion, hope it helps.
@@tieoneon1614 appreciate the response. Honestly, I ride a 230f so don't get me wrong if I could afford the 350 I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Just feel like I'd end up kicking myself down the road once I got comfortable with the powerband of the 350
Weight difference on the 2021 is only 2.7lbs

Pretty sure dual sport means it’s capable of both road (road register-able) and dirt travel, don’t quote me on that though
I didn’t see a map switch all I saw was the kill and start switch and the turn high beam and horn switch

I have been riding street bikes for ever. Just moved to southern Idaho and now I want to move into off-road biking. Is this bike going to be able to handle my fatass?! Lol.

I just sold my L, great durable and looking bike, the extra lb’s of the L kill it off road. Although on road the L is great .
The 450L is a great bike for desert/southwest US. Its not great for tight trails and single track only. It doesnt need a tuner, just an experienced rider.
