I sterted with a mid-mount on a BX back in 2000. It was such a pain because I use the tractor for so many things including the FEL and BH and removing the mid-mount was a difficult task at the time. I sold the deck and bought a ZTR for mowing and never looked back. Now that was a larger 4 acre property, but even here on our half acer "downsize", I still use the BX22 and the SCAG ZTR. (because they are paid for. LOL)

We would never have a mid-mount mower...that just seems like an exercise in frustration. 3 pt hitches are frustrating enough. Thanks for watching.

Rear discharge finish mowers are great. Cleaner, safer, and more comfortable. However the turn around time and if upu have to avoid objects and obstacles might give the z-turn an edge.

Yes Lucas is spot on about the BX with mid-mount. Good in tight spots, good in the open.
I’d pick the your tractor set up with that size field and have the ZT for around the house, outbuildings and landscaping.

That was interesting. At one stage I was looking closely at the zero turn, until I spoke to my mower supplier. He knew my property and said the steep hills would be scary for the zero turn, especially after rain. I've gone with the tractor and a slasher.

I have a lawn tractor that I use most of the time as I only have an acre, by the time I mess around with taking off the loader on my BX2680 and putting the mid mount mower on, I'd have the lawn just about mowed as I only mow about 1/2 an acre most of the year as I can't get water on the other half, so once the warm weather hits 1/2 the yard isn't mowed anyways....however, mowing with either my BX or my lawn tractor is the same result....the 3 point finish mower would be great in large open areas, or for mowing an orchard, which a lot of people in my area do, occasionally they'll just use a rotary cutter (bush hog).
More or less depends on what you already have. If I didn't have my lawn tractor already, I'd just put the mid mount mower on the BX once a week to mow with, not a huge chore, its mainly time consuming for me because of storage location and having to take the bucket off put the pallet forks on, move my car out of the way, bring the mower deck over tot he carport, then go remove the loader, then install the mower deck....if the deck was stored where I could just drive up and install it, it wouldn't take much time at all...and I don't have the drive over deck, its really not that hard to install the deck, a couple pins, and a front mount bracket, that's it, other than the PTO shaft.
I've found though, mowing with my BX I don't get nearly as much debris thrown all over me as I do the lawn tractor, maybe because with the BX you sit up higher than a typical lawn tractor, keeping the operator out of the flying debris better by sitting up higher on a tractor.
Nice thing with even the sub-compact tractors, you can run a 4 or maybe even a 5 foot 3 point finish mower, and given the mid mount mower on my BX2680 is a 5 foot (60"), mower, you'd get by with a 5 foot 3 point finish mower I'd guess...maybe even a 6 foot if you have lighter duty mowing applications.
Never have used a zero turn mower, and really don't see the need for one, and besides that, I couldn't run my snow blower with a zero turn LOL. Yeah, should have waited until I got my BX before buying a snow blower, but its a PITA to install and remove from the lawn tractor so I really don't use it, and haven't had enough snow to really justify installing it the past couple years anyhow.
A zero turn, is just a mower, that's all it does....if you want something that can do other things look at a lawn tractor/garden tractor at a minimum, or a sub-compact tractor....cost is a huge factor though, for what a sub-compact tractor/mid mount mower or even a 3 point finish mower costs, you can buy several box store zero turn mowers LOL.

    Hi Brad,
Life is too short to spend a great deal of time mowing. I once knew a 70 yo lady who spent most of the day mowing her five acres once a week. She enjoyed mowing with her little Ford tractor and brush hog.
That being said, Courtney at Good Works Tractor, released a video about 1 hour before yours this morning. It also relates to lawn mowing but with some interesting twists and concepts.
    ua-cam.com/video/O5pAtRui9Us/v-deo.html
Note the 11' lawn mower. 15 mins long. As always, play at 1.25 or 1.5.
Best of luck, thanks to Piney Grove for great videos

Great comparison. Most videos comparing the two show how a zero turn is faster but don’t mention a field rattling your teeth. There are lots of new mowers with suspensions and smooth rides but still the point of actively trying to go straight takes work. I have a field and also lots of hills and slopes and some small wet spots. I’ve actually been considering a stand on mower instead of sit down zero turn for all my zigs and zags and theyre much better on slopes than sit downs. Some guys take a stand on upwards of 40 degrees because they have low center of gravity and you can lean.

A zero turn with mulching blades and a plug would cut down on the dust considerably but you would still have the poor ride quality. I would still probably go with the tractor and finish mower especially on a property that large.

This was a waste of time. Of course tractors are better for mowing a pasture. A zero turn is better for mowing a lawn and it's not even close.
