Seriously, as an anthropology hobbyist, I was horrified at how haphazardly and unscientifically this team blundered through the ruins without any kind of procedure.
The best explanation I've heard for this movie is that it's a parody, but Ridley Scott forgot to let everybody else in on the joke.

Yeah it's actually ridiculous how unscientific they are. It's more forgivable in Covenant because they're pretty much just a group of colonists - they're not scientists. But here it's completely stupid.
I'm a research biologist... and this movie hurt my brain.
The biologist and the geologist were on drugs for most of their overnight cave romp, which may explain what they later get up to with the suspiciously phallic snakes.
David constantly stating, with full confidence, that he can speak to the engineers gives off the exact same vibe as dory saying she can speak whale and honestly it's kind of hilarious

It makes the outtake that uses audio from Finding Nemo even funnier.

AS a biologist I can only say this: The movie _Prometheus_ is so full of absolutely braindead-stupid characters, plot devices, concepts, pseudoscience and cringyworthy let's-shoehorn-religion-in that is created a whole new category of stupid.

When the "engineer" woke up an snatched David head off his body an immediately went back to completing his mission was my favortie part of the whole movie.
Even he was like "Y'all really ARE stupid.."

The Prometheus school of running away from things sin was so egregious it became a full on meme mainstay
TBF the trope is way older, with countless people running away from cars in a straight line in the middle of the street instead of running to the side, behind a tree, down a small path between houses etc.
But it was this movie and UA-cam video that made the meme
a year later and I've yet to see ANYONE use this saying in or as a meme. +1 sin
23:52 i remember watching this with my dad, and i was literally yelling at the movie saying "GO TO THE SIDE! GO TO THE SIDE!" Over and over, and my dad was laughing so hard.
Fun Fact: the entire scene of David killing time en route was inspired by a similar scene that would have depicted Bishop doing the same thing during Aliens, but was ultimately cut from the movie to make Bishop's reveal as an android minutes later a surprise.
And Ridley Scott said he never saw Alien sequels. Is he a jealous liar cuz James Cameron took his movie and made it better?

@@SuperFlawless2010 I think it's a huge stretch to say Cameron "made his movie better". Besides the fundamental reality that Aliens is a vastly different sort of movie than Alien, Alien covered all the fundamental groundwork in terms of design, aesthetic, casting aim, etc. Alien is a magnificent film; I'd never diminish Aliens in terms of being a terrific sequel, but a sequel it was and I don't think anyone is going to successfully pitch that it more action-oriented focus is objectively superior to the horror film that is the first.
You'd have a better shot at pitching T2 over T1, but again their tone and aims are different enough that I'd pitch appreciating each rather than trying to force-claim one as better than the other.
Alien is much better than Aliens.
Aliens wasn't better, just a different kind of movie.
However, Promethus is unequivocally terrible.
I was riding my mountain bike one day when a rabbit suddenly jumped out in front of me and proceeded to run straight down the trail ahead of my bike for about 10 yards before finally veering off to the side. The first thing that popped into my head was, "The _Prometheus_ school of running away from things."
The rabbit is still smarter than these characters. It believes you are chasing it, and therefore veering off is less advantageous than running at full speed.
Ten yards isn't that far. The characters in this turd of a movie went far longer than that.

I was completely befuddled by the flashlights.

I just love the fact that Prometheus and the resinning of Prometheus are the only two CinemaSins videos that Jeremy hasn't narrated (that I recall anyway and I have seen them all).

I've heard the "Prometheus School for Running Away From Things" used in many other movie reviews. So you guys definitely started it.
I've never understood why Guy was old or why he hid himself. Neither made any sense. When I saw that he was buried under tons of make up, I literally said "Oh, they are going to turn him young again by the end of the movie." ...Nope!
And I hated the flip flops.
There’s a bunch of unused footage and extra content with him in it. But yeah, as it was released….it was confusing
Also at the time they painted the map in the cave, the Isle of Man was covered by a huge shield of ice glacier. But that's probably too much of a nerd issue to check in a multi million dollar movie...
An alien ritually sacrificed itself to seed a planet with life, it evolves to the point where humans (who are physiologically nearly identical to engineers and are somehow genetically identical) become the dominant form of life, and you're worried about sketchy cave dating? Obviously it's a movie which requires a fair amount of suspension of disbelief, that being said, it really seems like they actively tried to irritate the viewers with the scientific aspect of the movie. I mean if you don't wanna put the effort in to make believable or consistent explanations you could just insert some technobable and get on with it, why spend half the movie explaining the scientific reasoning behind everything, if you're just gonna call it in?

If you want to transfer from the star trooper school for shooting at things, to the Prometheus school for running from things, do you keep your class rank? And do all the credits transfer?
It also has its own School of Physics. The Juggernaut is heading away from Shaw, the Prometheus rams it from behind, according to Sir Isaac Newton the wreckage should start falling on ballistic trajectories and land further down range. Instead according to Scott’s Laws of Motion, the Juggernaut falls backwards and then starts rolling towards them.

Vickers actually changed the original crew to find some dumber ones coz she wanted the mission to fail. Apart from learning to veer off to the right when a mothership is falling on you she got what she wanted.🤪

This movie holds some special memories for me.
It was the first movie in the aliens series I ever saw, It was the first horror movie I ever saw, and the first movie I fell asleep during as a teen.
Those three should not be the same movie!

I remember renting this from Redbox back after it released. I read the plot description, not knowing it’s an Alien prequel, and thought “wow, an interesting story for the origins of human kind.” It was about forty minutes into the film when I actually realized it was an Alien move. Lol
The original script and deleted scenes where so good it made no sense that those scenes where deleted

The surgery scene was everything- the closest any of the sequels have come to touching upon pregnancy, the horror of unwanted pregnancies (like in the original Alien) and a subtle nod towards reproductive rights. Definitely worth a few sins off.
It's been 10 years and I've still only seen the sins videos for this movie but not the movie itself

This is still the most beautiful movie I've ever wanted to punch in the face.
Prometheus is 10 years old, but looks better than 90% of today's movies. Look at the effects and everything, it is beautiful.

This movie is absolutely terrible, covenant was even worse but I'd take Resurrection over this trash heap where Scott wanted to create his own moronic origin story for the xenomorphs.
I know one thing when David unleashed the black spores on the Engineers that look he had on his face was one of the best villain faces I've ever seen.

Crazy how UA-cam won’t let people respond to this comment
Stanford and Yale have conducted large scale randomized studies on mask effectiveness.
They found that there is about a 10% reduction in Covid infections if masks are worn. So, if 20 out of 100 people get Covid without masks, then with masks only 18 would.
But wait, there's more! This was for surgical masks. With cloth masks (which 99% of people wore during the pandemic, the effecacy was only 5%. Meaning, if say, 20 out of 100 people got Covid normally, then with masks, 19 of out the 20 still would.
Cloth masks basically did very little to combat Covid. The mental health effects of isolation and never seeing people face to face probably outweigh the minimal improvement in infection rates provided by cloth masks.
Again. These are studies by Yale and Stanford. Aside from Harvard, they are the most prestigious colleges in the world.

I can't believe you didn't sin the fact that they're debrief about the mission after months or years of traveling. And here I am convinced to not move a single muscle to go out with friends until they tell me where we're actually having dinner.
They started the conversation just before hopping in the stasis pods and 1000 years later continue it as if no time has passed.
They're being briefed, not debriefed. Debriefs happen after the mission or project is complete.

God damn, this re-sin was fucking savage. This is the first sins video I've seen since the F9 video that I can't be mad at. That is, you took the time with the sins and pointed out legitimate ones pretty much the entire way through.

When this movie was announce to be released I was so excited. My son in law took me to the theater, ( my daughter didn't like Alien) I was so happy to be seeing this. When we left the theater I felt robbed. This was a huge piece of shit. The visuals was great but the storyline sucked. When will writers understand there will never be an answer for the unexplained?

Fifteen billion square acres around and swear I shouted this at my cat just last week refusing to get out of wheelbarrow path AND SURE I shouted this at everything from Ring Necked Pheasants to rabbits to cattle, all honorable graduates! Was nature long before CinemaSins but damn if youse didn't define it and forever turn frustration into a laugh. "JUST GO TO THE SIDE!"

Crazy how I’ve been on a rewatch of the alien / Prometheus movies and now this comes out
You sinned Shaw saying “we were wrong, we were so wrong.” However, she was right. The reason why she said that was because she thought the mural was an invitation which it wasn’t.
i mean we still dont know if it wasn't an invitation. maybe the alien that invited them was doing it as a dare or a prank or because his parents took away his xbox that weekend. "I'll show you mom and dad, i'll invite a bunch of people over!"
Or maybe it was a trap in order to invite people to get news on good old Earth whether it has enough easy preys on it yet 😅
I think you should sin Jason and the Argonauts (1963) as it is the predecessor to the Prometheus school of running away from things.
