maybe it'l take another 3 years till you swallow the red pill. and digestion of it may take way more adaption-time. little help: google 'hypergamy'. u were the perfect provider having done his job (implying an 18year continuous payment), I guess.
The sound of lightning can travel 15 miles and upwards of 30 miles! Crazy
@@toltacoatl they do this from time to time. Healthy I think.
Did you say Svalbard? If so that's really interesting I've always wanted to go but of course it's cold
Thunder can be heard around 10 miles from the Lightning. That’s not nautical just regular 10 miles land wise. Hope that helps!!
I think what Lenny meant when he said there'd be more space when he got back on Vagabond is that he'd again be surrounded by the big wide ocean. Such a sweet child. Keep doing such a great job of raising him. He's not even a tiny bit self-absorbed and that's almost unknown in this day and age.
so true about the ocean wideness🐬
I thought exactly the same thing! :))
👍
Lenny loves Ocean life already 💞💞💞
I had the same thought! The way that he looked around at the water when they got to the dock reminds me of me as a kid🥲💜
Long-time watcher. First-time Commenter. After watching that lightning storm, I was thinking how I wouldn't mind watching a few hours of lightning on La Vagabond. Maybe You guys should make like hour long La Vagabonde ambiance videos, things like lightning storms, rain storms, fair winds and following seas. Something to have on in the background while working, or just chilling. With some chill music.
Anyways, it's not like you guys are busy making videos, sailing, raising kids, building a boat, moving to Vietnam, running a swimsuit company, starting a charter company, you guys have tons of time to make more videos 😅😅😅.
Love what you guys are doing, keep it up. Aloha.
I was thinking this too!! 😄
YES to this!! I put on the hour long recent ep because the background music and footage helps me sleep! I would LOVE La Vagabonde Ambience!
I would love that.
Me too!!!
you wouldn't even need music.. just the sound of the water would be enough
Incredibly excited to see the Svalbard content! My wife and I just returned from 2 weeks in Norway including the Lofoten Islands. It was beautiful and the northern lights were mind blowing. Can’t wait to see your journey north!
Thunder generally can be heard 15 miles (13 nautical miles) from the lightning strike and although sound depending on the air temperature, etc travels at about 13 (11.3 nautical) miles per minute (767 mph) in air the sound of thunder can cover the first 10 miles in 30 seconds.
I AM SO JEALOUS! I started following UA-camr Cecilia Blomdahl, who lives in Svalbard/Longyearbyen, a while ago. I fell in love with the polar night and the northern lights. I added visiting that area to my bucket list.
Your family will surely have great fun and experience many things for the first time.
I look very forward to your videos from Slvalbard!
yes i hope they meet up...
I’ve been watching her channel for a while now too- Great content!!
I too watch Cecilia and was enchanted by Svalbard and the polar night. So jealous.
Svalbard!! How exciting!!!
Sweet Lenny misses the open space of the beautiful ocean. ❤️ Me too kiddo 🤣
I started by just giving a thumbs up. Because I know you guys dont have time to read all of these replies. But I couldn't help but say that this was an extra special episode. LETS FACE IT, ALL EPISODES ARE! But there were points in this one that touched my heart strings. I simply want to say thanks to you guys for showing the real REALITY of your unique lifestyle. Its that simple fact, that keeps me coming back for more. Im really enjoying this - thank you La Vagabonde and her fantastic family and crew. LONG LIVE LA VAGABONDE - one of the most amazing, exciting, sailing vessel ladies to sail the ocean blue!
Hello Riley and Elayna! I am a student in Svalbard right now studying Arctic Biology! I can't wait to see your videos of the area, it is absolutely stunning. Maybe I will see you around town! (: We just had our first snow in the valley as well!
they are most likely there now, or on the way there now. so keep an eye out
Have you connected with Cecelia?
SVALBARD! WOW! That will be SUPER exciting! 🙂
I think it’s always good to have a little break from each other, it just makes the reunion that much sweeter. You certainly got some wonderful photos of the lightening storms.
Just wow - Svalbard! This is going to be epic - Looking forward to some great adventure, filmmaking, nature, and some reallly-off-the-beaten-path. Take us all along!
WE CANNOT WAIT 🥹☃️🦭
Svalbard in autumn. Are you sure you know what you're getting yourself into?
Been following Cecelia in Svalbard, beautiful . Quite a big change in weather. Enjoy!!!!!
Should be awesome to see the kids ( Riley too😁) enjoy the Svalbard adventure!
Can’t wait for that adventure!!!!!❤️
Great vid as always - a touch sad for me until you met up again! Glad you ended the video that way- and FUN reveal at the end! Hello Alex- I can't wait to meet you on a charter!
"I haven't been kicked at all on this trip and it's been amazing" nothing like appreciating the simple things in life😉 u guys r legends 💜
Svalbard, Norway is going to be cold real soon! Guess you guys will be (or were, actually) there in the middle to the later part of the summer. It's beautiful up there! Looked up how far the sound of thunder can travel on the ocean - 25 miles. That's quite a distance. Svalbard has the Bryggeri micro brewery and there was a distillery as well, but it's not coming up on Google Search. And when you go out sightseeing, bring a rifle, you'll need it. Good luck!
SO EXCITED FOR YOUR SVALBARD VIDEOS!!!! I watch Cecilia Blomdahl, she is amazing.
Yes I watch her as well, she is fantastic and a great story teller.
Thunder sound travels about 10-25 miles, depending which Google search you believe!...Have a great, safe trip, all of you!
Safe travels!! Excited for your upcoming adventures!! Thank you so much for taking us all along for the ride!
Love seeing Svalbard videos! So excited yall are going there. Say hi to Cecilia if you see that UA-camr there!
I love seeing the difference in filming styles between Riley & Elayna :)
Your family is so Cute!❤️💋
How u live on the boat w/ 2 children is beyond Wild!
Riley glad u got some rest!
It will be another 20 yrs before u sleep all night!
Love watching you enjoy ur Sail & explaining the journey!
Kudos to you all for Rock’en the Sea! 🌊🌊🌊🌊
Good to see you all getting excited about the new boat. OMG i cant wait. E when you were sitting next to Riles and you smiled at him it was soo cool. And, Riley singing Vagabond adventures. The excitement builds. The kids look great. Growing fast. God bless
This was a fun and much anticipated episode to watch. We were in Charleston at the same time and sailing the little J 22s you filmed at the CoC boat house just up the dock from you guys. It was surreal seeing La Vagabond all buttoned up, and ready to head to Annapolis with you guys heading off on your next boat adventure. Looking forward to the christening of La Vagabond III, and seeing what the future holds.
Just love how excited you both are to see each other after only a few days apart. So sweet.
aww im already sad and the video hasnt even started but safe travels and cant wait to see whats next with the new boat!
Exciting times ahead! Elayna, if the boys are used to the taste of Chamomile tea (with a little honey), maybe try some in their drink bottles. It calms an upset tummy very quickly and definitely can calm anxiety, travel jitters, etc. It’s my fav drink when something soothing is needed. Wishing you safe travels; stay well!
That lightning show was awesome!
So glad you guys made it safely to Charleston !
Can’t wait to see the next episode!!!
Love all of them 😊
Omgggg Svalbard!! I’m SO EXCITED!! Def on my bucket list!! Have a blast!
Sound of thunder is about 10 miles. Much love from the coast of Maine 🤙🤙
What?! Ending it on ‘we’re going to Svalbard’ 😱 I can’t freakin wait to see what you’re up to! Love this episode, thanks for all the hard work you put into sharing your lives and adventures. Xx
What a terrific passage! Great crew there in Alex, clearly a dude right at home on the water.
Awesome video once again! Love seeing the kids have fun and Lenny and Darwin grow up into young great boys! ❤️
All the best kids ~ in solid relationships time apart is always positive 💃 in my opinion
My eyes went 😳 at your news at the end! I’m endlessly fascinated at that place I can’t wait to see it from your guy’s perspective!
Where did they say they were going? We rewatched it a few times and couldn’t understand them 😂
@@kendalludewig8075 Iceland?
Sending prayers that everyone is okay with the recent hurricane.
Super excited for you guys! Praying/wishing for a safe, stress free flight for the boys (sleepy time hopefully) and a safe, calm trip for Riley on LV2. If y’all are attending the Annapolis boat show, we’re hoping to maybe see you there!
See you at the boat show Jen 🤞🌻
Super side note and random but awesome to see another LVT who’s a fan of the channel too! :)
Yay! Welcome to Norway! I hope you will enjoy Svalbard! ❤
Wow, that was an amazing light show, but I agree, glad it was far away from y'all! And as always, it was great seeing my home sweet home, Chas. SC 💙 Those boys are getting so big!
Wow can’t wait to see the next episode in Svalbard!
I did an Arctic expedition there (Longyearbyen) 4 years ago. The most exciting and memorable thing I’ve ever done next to giving birth to my 2 lovely sons.
You will love it. Xx🇨🇦
I have been to svalbaed several times, dont want to go there again! But i hope you enjoy it.
Distance of Thunder travels.... wait for it.... 10 miles is the correct answer. I think humidity is a big factor in how far it'll go.
The end with Riley walking down the dock holding a trash bag and 2 blocks of cheese had me cracking up lol. So random. Also died when he said Elayna started talking like a Ninja Turtle 🤣🤣 Lenny is so cute. I love how just go with the flow he's learned to be cuz of the life you guys have given him. Alot of children act out when they experience some kind of change. Maybe you just didn't show it. But I find it hard to believe he would. He seems like he's just cool with whatever. Such sweet little guys yall are raising 💜💚 can't wait for the next video!!
Omg .Lenny talks now.wow I been really busy and haven't watched in 20 months ..now I get to catch up..you guys are amazing.
It has rained a lot this year and an incredible amount of lightning, but no worthwhile rotations from Africa. And thankfully we are already in September. I'm in Puerto Rico Have been for 50 years and have seen really bad hurricanes hit and obliterate the island on several occasions. I would not want to see one at sea. Seeing one on the shore was enough for me (Hugo). Praying for you all and sending love happy adventures. S
i'm east coast florida and have been in and around 6 storms in my life (many other close calls). i would not want to be on any island in the caribbean during a close call. PR is a magical island, stay safe my friend, october is coming.
Love when love show the rest of the boat his water bottle when he got it back! Please come up to sail or visit Eamon and Bec in Canada 🇨🇦🇨🇦🫰🏻love you guys!
OH MY GOODNESS! What a fun announcement 👏❤️
Being in Oklahoma with Tornadoes 🌪 and such cloud watching is mandatory. Loved the explanation for currents and weather patterns. We also have a network of local watchers.
Svelvard, this will be interesting. Glad the Bahamas is now behind you, onwards and forwards. Can't wait. BRRRRRR
I remember seeing an episode like this before. I hope you don't have to head back again. I'm looking forward to seeing the new boat.
Welcome to Florida thunderstorms. We have them almost every night around Orlando along the Interstate 4 corridor and up and down the coast lines. They can get VERY intense sometimes. Not a good time to be around a fifty foot mast. :)
According to Google the speed of sound can change due to things like air pressure but generally it's around 1100 ft per second. Depending on wind direction thunder can normally be heard from up to 10 miles away. There are 5280 ft/mile so as a rough guide count the number of seconds from seeing the lightening to hearing the thunder and multiply it by 5 for the distance in miles.
Excited that you are going to Svalbard
Svalbard!!! Fantastic. I was there 3 years ago. Enjoy
I just have to tell you I just love you guys I can't wait to see The Next episode that's every week I look forward to every week I just love your family
Welcome to our beautiful City. Lord bless ❤️ you and your family. We are glad to have you again in the Holy City. Charleston SC. Much love. You are rich with children. Wish we had met yall. Happy Sails!!
Wishing you wonderful folks safe passage.
Thunder generally travels 10 miles, this is dependent on wind direction and whether over land or water. Lightning bolts can also travel 10 miles from the storm hence " A bolt out of the blue ". Safe travels mate
I so love watching all your adventures! You guys were in my neck of the woods. South Carolina. I hope you enjoyed Charleston as it is a wonderful place. Safe travels!
I follow several youtube families/couples and you're the third vlogger, in less than 2 months time, that is traveling to Svalbard! Maybe it's a sign I need to visit Svalbard too! It will be great to see it from La Vagabond's perspective! Can't wait!
Beautiful sailing ⛵️ ❤️ glad you guys came back to Charleston, my home town!! I Just packed it up and moved to Panama 🇵🇦, good luck on the Canal 👍👍💙💙
Charleston...one of our favorite places ever! Enjoy tour time there.
I’m a local in Mount Pleasant, and understand for personal security reasons not giving advance notice of your ports of call, but wish I could have bought you and the crew dinner at one of the many outstanding restaurants Charleston/Mount Pleasant has to offer. This is an amazing city! Safe travels to all!
Why am I emotional in the first 20 seconds??? LOL Amazing run, thank you for all of the incredible content! Cannot wait to see where you go from here! Safe travels everyone 💜💜
Because you need to build a life of your own. Matty, your life means just as much as theirs. Get out there, Mate!
As a pilot, the explanation of the cloud "elevation" was very entertaining 😆
That lightning is soooo incredibly dropdead gorgeous!!! Absolutely love it!!! (Might be biased being a vfx artist, but still)
All the best to the Vegabond crew.
I’m just finishing up A Journey For Madmen, which you recommended. I can’t even imagine sailing solo, no electronics, no global positioning, etc. I don’t know if it’s bravado or insanity! Some of the descriptions of rogue waves knocking the trimaran over was crazy!
Great book! 👍📚
Ok, hoping to see you guys at the boat show!!
This episode was a sweet sail an a crazy airplane ride... ☯️.. Elaina your an amazing Mummy to your boys.. An Riley your just an amazing Dad an Captain.... I learn so much from you both... That says a lot cuz I'm an old fart..!
Thanks again for sharing your lives with us... Really grateful for the lessons an wisdom shared ✌🏼💗😊❣️
Cute family. Brave parents. Brilliant and diligent navigating. 🌺
Welcome to Charleston! Hope you enjoy your time here. We consider coastal South Carolina our slice of paradise and call it home.
Awesome vid, and a ripper lighting show mate
Todays my birthday! Great video to watch today ❤️
Lightening... Welcome to the East Coast! Sound of thunder can travel well over 50 miles. Depends upon the intensity of the lightening strike, which can vary by many orders of magnitude.
I’ve missed the sailing aspect on your channel. Great stuff Riley!
If that’s Svalbard in the North Pole, I can’t imagine anyone wanting to go stay there. I visited on a cruise ship and was pleased to have the comforts of living on it. In Svalbard there was nothing but ice, snow and a few huts for researchers. Lots of signs warning of bears, beautiful but wild - a long way off sunny Bahamas!
The lightning storm was so awesome to watch! I'd honestly watch 3 hours of ocean and lightning 😉 Also, seeing Riley and Elayna reunite even after just a few days is so sweet; I love how animated you both were in sharing your stories with each other. Riley's lightning sound effects and Elayna's ninja turtle action was too much 😂
You two are such a beautiful couple. Always the funniest content to me when you two are being silly and goofing around.
Awesome video guys, am I the only one that wants to see 3 hours of lightning out on the ocean!?
safe trip to you all!!! godspeed and good vibes
xoxo
The water was such a rich blue and the weather was exciting. I love thunder and lightning, especially when it makes the massive deep rumble buildup to the big boom. I was wondering how much of the day you are able to just relax and not be cranking and yanking ropes. Elayna is looking very pretty in this video.
Time from the lightening flash to hearing the thunder will give you the distance: 3 sec/km, 5 sec/mile and just under 6 sec/nautical mile
OMGOMG SVALBARD I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE THE KIDS REACTIONS!!!
Here in the southern US we count it from the lightening strike, each second from flash to thunder clap equals one mile
Great post my friends. I love this family / team / channel
🌞🌴⛵️
I have a motor home and twice a year I drive from Brighton Sussex to Lagos Portugal on my own or with friends and my wife goes with her friend to we’re ever she wants to ‘ 16 days apart then I pick her up from Lisbon the we have six weeks holiday together, the best part is meeting her at the airport ‘ we have three sons , six grand kids and one on the way , (that’s a grand kid ) and we have been married for forty three years . Great channel thank you 🙏👍🍺❤️
So exited for you that you are off to Svalbard. Living in Renmark, SA, our cruise up to there pre-Covid was one of our most memorable experiences. You will love it. Cheers.
Waaaait whaaaat!!! I had to rewatch the ending twice when you two said you that you were going to Svalbard🥹❣️💃🏻
Thanks for the video. So glad you had a safe and enjoyable sail. Stay well and happy. ⛵
You guys put a smile on my face. Wishing the best for you all. Let’s get that tri in the water and do some getting use to speed. Can’t wait.
OMG, I have not followed the two of you lately but I am glad to see you're still going strong! I really love the two of you and always have a smile on my face when I watch your videos.
Can't wait to see your new boat! One day when I have my own boat, I will meet you somewhere on the ocean and we'll have a beer! ...or two...
Going to Norway! I guess you can hook up with Cecilia Blomdahl well in Svalbard or depending on how old the video is, been a lot of other youtubers in that area.
Got it! Never heard of it.
Svalbard is a Norwegian archipelago between mainland Norway and the North Pole. One of the world’s northernmost inhabited areas, it's known for its rugged, remote terrain of glaciers and frozen tundra sheltering polar bears, Svalbard reindeer and Arctic foxes. The Northern Lights are visible during winter, and summer brings the “midnight sun”-sunlight 24 hours a day.
You all are really hitting your stride in quality and quantity of production values. I don't really know what a production value is but you do; suffice to say, great work! It is a joy to share in your adventure.
Hi LaVagabonde, I live on the Plains in the middle of USA in Oklahoma. It is a lot like the ocean flat and stormy in the spring. When it is storming with lighting in the distance and thunder we determine the distance by looking at the flash and counting the seconds off until we hear the thunder. Each second is equal to one mile. Example: 8 seconds equal 8 miles from the storm. If the next one is only 6 seconds the storm is moving toward you and so on. It has always been pretty accurate. Should work on the ocean. You have a great UA-cam show that I have followed from your beginning. Keep up the great work.
I'm so excited for you! I can't wait to follow along with your next adventure.
Your passing the lightning capital of the USA, those storms are routine during the summer, almost always afternoon/evening then tapering off. Used to live there and get the daily entertainment/terror, you see a lot of weird bolts. I saw one go sideways out of the cloud 5-10 miles then down to the ground in an area of clear blue sky! Really freaky, your not "safe" even 10 miles away. Then at times it will go continuous strikes, kinda like a giant brain in the sky. The sound travels as far as it wants to, depends a lot on conditions.
I would totally watch three hours worth of lightning strikes with the waves in the background
Safe Travels. Loved the lightning storm!!!
Opening music brought a tear.
Good luck with the move to your new home and I'm sure new Destinations
I can't wait to see the first adventure!! Safe travels to everyone!
