your song made me laugh.👍
It is not your viewers you need to ask (unless they are Vietnamese) ask the Vietnamese people if they mind you wearing them. Personally if you are wearing something because it is practical there should not be a problem.
Riley,
Go listen to Anthony Keidis's comments on cultural appropriation from Joe Rogan's show a few months back. If done respectfully, there's not much in modern Western culture that couldn't be looked at as "appropriation." We all borrow a little bit from here and there to shape our own tastes. As Media says, there's no bigger sign of love and respect than appropriation.
Also I've been in bali 35 years... Can help you guys out with info and contacts
So in this new woke world…no one but Italians can eat Italian food? And only baseball players can wear baseball hats? And only cowboys can wear cowboy boots? Or are they now called cow person boots? Please please for the love of all things great and good stop the madness already.
As someone who is Asian, specifically born and raised in here, there's nothing wrong with the thumbnail 😊. Its a hat that is commonly used in this part of the world by locals or visitors since that particular type of hat works really well in the type of weather that we have here since it's breathable. As for cultural appropriation in terms of Asian culture, I think Riley is right that respect really is the key when exposing one's self to new culture, especially one that's completely different than your own. As long as what you do is with respect and comes from a place of learning, everything will be fine ☺. Also, i guess what's best really is to talk to a local and ask them about their culture! Enjoy your stay here in South East Asia!
💯
Well said!
very well said!!
Instead of asking the people who don't live there about cultural appropriation of that culture, ask the local people's opinion and see their reactions. As rnkl is. Here in the states it seems the majority of people who are offended by something like that have no ties or association to the culture.
As fellow southeast asian (malaysian here!), i agree with you! Nothing wrong with the thumbnail, just look like any Bali tourist 😂
I think it's a sign of respect to wear locally made products, especially when they are so functionally efficient like the hats and also ecologically friendly. Darwin's Zepp tee slaps, too!
I have to be honest with you; your personal levels of respect for your surroundings have always been completely appropriate. You have a wonderful level of multi-culturalism because of your extensive travels. I cannot imagine that purchasing and wearing cultural/local clothing is anything but respectful and, most of all, supportive of the people.
You become an asset to the community with your purchases.
The fact that you even felt like you needed to address Is so telling. Respect goes a long way 😊
As an Indonesian and a fan of your channel, your thumbnail is absolutely gorgeous... love it 💞. Enjoy our culture and hospitality.. and welcome to Bali.. hope you have the opportunity to visit other parts of Indonesia too.
Lenny’s face when he pulled his hand away from the boat.. priceless 😂
Congratulations you guys! What an exciting time for your family ❤
Thinking the same thing!! I remember making that look lol 😅😅😂😂
@@UAPology ooooops!
I spent the better part of 20 years in International Business, I learned that the smallest act of immersing yourself in another culture would pay off every time. I think it is wonderful that your boy's are learning all this so much faster than we as adults can. While others may not agree or like your lifestyle, don't pay them any mind. I am so grateful to watch your adventures , thank you for sharing them with us.
@@FetaLovingGreek exactly....the more we learn about each other, the more understanding grows.
This is why your wife left you man
I must say I truly do love hearing Elayna singing.
As an Indonesian born and raised, your thumbnail is perfectly fine. Your video mentions respect for the culture, and that is all we ask.
I think it’s a beautifully appropriate thumbnail showing a lovely family in tradition hats.I’m sure the person you bought them from was very happy too. Also you make Bali look like a lovely place to visit so very good for tourism. You’ve certainly made me think about going there it looks amazing.
Loved Elayna singing....her voice is beautiful.....I am so glad you think outside the box and take time to make decisions. Doing what is best for the boys and for your family makes you a special couple. Both of you are always respectful of people no matter their socioeconomic, religious or racial classes. That is what I have seen over the years. My family with teenagers enjoys every show. Thanks and God bless. It would be so much fun to hang out with you all, especially the little ones.
That was awesome
Such a pretty voice !
Thinking the same thing... Elayna I hope you keep singing you seem to enjoy it and are quite talented. It's important to have that creative outlet you love. Maybe someday you can do a duet with Sailing Zingaro?!
I believe there is a difference between dressing up to joke on a culture, then there're those that dress to compliment a culture. Many cultures welcome teaching others to participate in the way they live. Sharing the experience. I truly believe it's got more to do with intention. Is you intention to uplift and educate said culture, or to look down on and judge. I love the thumb nail!
I love you guys and your channel. I appreciate that you have thought about this.
This. Partaking and showing respect to a diff culture =/= mocking and profiting off of a diff culture.
@@lookhowshegobbledthatit’s a hat
Darwin in that Led Zeppelin T-shirt was about the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. Congrats on everything ❤
It was definitely time for some new clothes for the boys 😂
i kid you not, my wife is wearing the same shirt today, but a little bigger. when i met her back in the mid 80s i used to play my guitar and sing zeppelin songs to her when we were teens, been together for 36 years, thanks led zeppelin, thought id never get a girl lol.
Yes and with the hair and the shirt looks classic 💞 love both kids becoming little boys so fast ❤❤
Just to say we did 'Ubud' 30 or so yrs ago and thought it was oovercommercialized claptrap even then. We took solice and flew onto the next island and parked ourselves at Senggigi Beach. Then stayed over at the Gili islands. You couldn't stay overnight then but maybe has changed. Great place to park a boat.
Lombok was the next island.
Welcome to Bali! So glad to hear you've decided on this magical place as your home base - good choice. Bali has been my home for 4 years so please feel free to hit me up next time you guys come through if you need resources, recommendations, or connection with the community here. Happy to help in any way.
As for the thumbnail: I'm not Balinese but I will say they LOVE IT when you take time to learn about their culture, participate in their ceremonies, and wear their traditional garb. They love new people coming to the island, to learn about their culture, and to teach about theirs. From what I know of their kind hearts, it would make them happy to see you wear the hat the farmers wear as they tend to the rice fields. The culture here is more inclusive, not as judgemental as in other places around the world (especially in Ubud) and we all look out for one another. As for cultural appropriation - maybe a lesson about the hats and the culture will show appreciation for these kind people.
I don't think there is anything wrong with the hats. The hats provide a function, and you were using it appropriately. On the other hand, what have you done to that tank top? How do you know what hole to put your head or arms in! 😂. Good to see you all starting to settle down again and I look forward to seeing the family out on the water. ✌❤
Hahaha the top is actually Rachel’s. It somehow ended up in my pile of fresh washing on the last day we all stayed together in Annapolis. I think she cut it 😄 (she knows I have her shirt and said I could keep it, seeing as it would cost 10 times more than the actual value of the shirt to ship it back to her lol)
That is cultural appreciation!
I believe culture should be shared, exchanged, and borrowed freely so that humanity can grow; and so that we can connect with one another. After all, imitation and appropriation belies the affinity one has for another. Having said that, are you from a dominant culture? Yes. Is that problematic? Somewhat. However by acknowledging that you are doing it, and most importantly that that piece of culture belongs to someone else, in the video goes a long way towards mitigating it. You are being responsible. So, I judge you to be correct.
@@SailingLaVagabonde I liked what Riley said about the scale, and I think the scale is between appreciation and appropriation, the two can look the same sometimes, but everyone wants to their culture to be respected. There are areas in the world where it is generally considered rude not dress and conform to the culture you are visiting. Communicate, empathy and being open goes a long way, especially to those that do not share our views.
That last shot of Lenny was hilarious! Touching your new boat, looking at his hands and finding the white paint - that look says it all
😳
Lenny's face at the end 🤣❤ so happy for you guys! Can't wait to see her in the water!!! Congratulations!!! Also, I think the thumbnail is fine as is. Very respectfully done. 🍻
Lenny's looks at the dust on his hand and says to his dad: "You paid how much for this boat?"
Honesty you guys are such pros, and so respectful of the world and it’s cultures, I don’t think you ever need to worry about miss appropriating or disrespecting any culture. Just loved the last 5 seconds of this vid with Lenny. Great editing… and a hook!
So pro, especially the part where she plays another band's music and doesn't credit them at all LOL
What a beautiful video the singing, seeing the boys grow up, the new culture, everything was very nice to watch. Also, loved the cliffhanger! Can't wait for the next episode.
The hats are fine. Super happy y’all love Bali- what an absolute paradise💛 We spent a month there and the Balinese people are the KINDEST people we have ever met. Enjoy!
I don't think they are kind
Riley...I must admit that when I stumbled upon your channel I had mixed feeling about you. Over the last few months I have gained super respect and admiration. Your better half is one funny gal who also deserve much respect. As for the kids...handsome beyond their years and the world is their education. Hopefully, someday our paths will cross and I owe you a beer for jumping to conclusions. Can't wait to see the new boat.
What you guys have built is a community. One that transcends all the other stuff going in the world. I'm sure there are people here who vastly differ with me on my beliefs, political leanings, and viewpoints on topics. But, there is respect there in the community to just enjoy the show and appreciate what you bring for us. Though we all may be different, we all share a love of this channel and view you all as welcome friends into our lives.
Exactly... I feel the same... We were made different to learn an love our differences an learn from each other!!
I live by "kindness is free daily!" So I try to meet everyone where they stand .. an I love this family for the core motivation is always love!! ✌🏼💗😊
Sure, many good people letting you be how you want. But along comes the government and threatens a no sex before marriage law, based on their religion. This sounds a lot like the thinking of Pol Pot.
As a dad, I pack all three of my kids lunches every day and I vividly remember how excited I was to start. It's something special that I get to do for them and I really enjoy it. I'm also the cook of the family, so it comes with the territory. Cheers!
Awwe that is so sweet of you. You sound like a good dad :) Cheers!
I think genuine interest and appreciation for the culture and history of where you are is enough to represent yourself well
Lenny just steals my heart every dang time. When he said he was Italy then changed to Australia was so cute. Such a smart little dude. So happy for you guys and look forward to future videos. I live in Maryland and planned on coming to meet you in Annapolis. Maybe next time. Safe travels! ❤
Honoured to work with you guys on this one! Enjoy Vietnam and hope to see you around Bali in the future ✌😁
Thanks so much Ryan!!!
Give this gentleman some love guys!!!
It's amazing to see the kids getting older! How lucky they are to travel and see lots of different cultures and peoples. I can't wait to see the new catamaran!!!! 👀!
OOpps "Trimaran" LOL
You guys are so sweet. The hats are not offensive because you and your family are not offensive people. You’re beautiful and respectful. Thank you for being so wonderful!
Hi Friends (I think of ya'll as friends). I'm in the Tokyo Airport waiting for our flight to Bangkok watching your latest adventure. I wanted to say your videos have inspired my wife and I to travel as much as possible with our family (19 yr old daughter and 16 yr old son). We started in Dallas, (14 hrs later we were in Shibuya crossing). We've had the best time laughing at how awkward we are with communicating, new foods, vending machines and my sons first experience with an asian toilet (he's changed forever). Anyway. Thank you Riley and Elayna, Lenny and Darwin for all you've done to make these moments with my family a reality!
I’m living vicariously through your family, I know it’s not as easy and wonderful at times but it’s epic
Awesome singing Elayna!! You guys had me laughing and smiling this whole video!! Thank you so much for bringing us all along on your adventures!! Such a beautiful life but so REAL! Love that you share all the not so perfect moments!! Makes it so relatable! Wish nothing but the very best for your lovely family!!!
I do not think your thumbnail is cultural appropriation one bit. I think it’s beautiful that your family is experiencing that culture. Your children are so lucky! Your family is absolutely darling. Xoxo from NV, USA ❤
OMG that look on Lenny`s face at the end when he had white (paint?) on his hand after touching the boat. PRICELESS. Can`t wait for your next adventure!
Hi! Thank you.
Today is a good day.
I always support you.
Fighting!
Bravo your life !!!
Have a nice day !!!!
Thank you.
Always love it with Elayna sings ❤ It's wonderful the boys are so adapted to change, this will be a great life skill.
I heard a great quote, to learn the difference between appropriation and appreciation. You are appreciating their culture and embracing it. I went to a high school there the schools symbol was a Native American chief. We worked hand and hand with the tribe to educate the community about their tribe and history. We appreciated their culture.
I commend your vulnerability asking those questions and opening yourselves to the answers. I don't have any answers. I'm so excited for you with the new boat and can't wait to see it. This is going to be a fun adventure. Thanks for bringing us along.
Looked like Lenny got white paint on his hand from the boat at the end there! It hit me as hilarious! T^he look on his face as he looked at his white hand! Too Precious!!!!!
Oh my gosh, I'm blown away at Melly's vigilance! Did you see her grab that oat milk Lenny knocked at the same time as being distracted by the camera and Elayna?! Wow and so amazing with the kids. She's going to be a bloody super nanny she is...move over Mary Poppins that's for sure ha. Hi Melly! 👋 You're going to be a wonderful addition for this time spent.
I am not from Asia but I certainly would assume there is absolutely nothing wrong with embracing one's culture by wearing what they wear. When in Rome.
Plus when political leaders go to summits in other countries they don said countries local attire. Nothing wrong with it, totally appropriate.
It's annoys me how sensitive the world has become.
Thanks for another epic video guys, really happy for you to be on the next chapter of your lives and even more grateful that you've brought us along.
I can just tell the trimaran looks fantastic, haha Lenny's face touching the wet paint 😂
Cannot wait to see her glide the oceans with grace and lighting speed.
Ps, Elayna that song was hilarious 😆
all while she was being interrogated on camera for vlog content.
Commendable !
Loved this video, the hats are a sign of appreciation and respect, in my opinion. we all need to learn to embrace the cultures of others with curiosity and kindness.. and you 4 are a beautiful example of a travelling family doing just that around the world 🌎 ⛵️
The last shot of Lenny 😂 as a waisan the hats are truly fine. I think properly immersing and engaging in different cultures is such a beautiful thing.
You’ve built a truly beautiful life for your family. Your boys are lucky to have you ❤
Man, love y’all’s journey… so stinking cool. You guys inspired my wife and I to sell everything we owned and move across the country and next month we will be moving onto our sailboat and excited for the adventure.
Ps. Think the thumbnail is great! Nothing wrong with taking part in the culture you’re in. In fact, I’m sure most of the locals enjoy seeing people partake in their lifestyle!
agree, in any part of the world we all take little things we like and make it part of us.
The beauty of travel and experiencing the different cultures around the the world is that they are for all to share and most appreciate when you immerse yourselves in their ways and customs. What is the saying? Mimicry is the sincerest form of flattery!
I’ve been following you off and on since the beginning! My teenage daughter found you just before Covid and became obsessed and I said, “hey! I know them!”
I’ve loved seeing you and your crew grow. And I love that you have chosen Asia as your home base. My husband and I lived in Taiwan after we were married and then moved back with our three little kids because we loved it so much. The people, the food, the healthcare, and the cost of living were just so amazing compared to the states!
We moved back to the states to be close to family after a couple years, but those years in Asia were my fave. Enjoy the journey!
Sidra❤
You have quite the talent for writing lyrics! That was so fun and you did a great job painting us the picture of just how challenging that trip was!
I just wanted to express my gratitude for the amazing content you consistently produce. Your videos always manage to educate, entertain, and inspire me, and I am so grateful for the time and effort you put into creating them. Thank you for sharing your talents and insights with the world, and for being such a valuable source of information and inspiration. Keep up the great work!
THANK YOU David 😊
Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. Your hats are cool.
I love that you are documenting this!! We traveled fulltime last year, and quickly realized the importance of a home base! You are making me rethink the idea that a home base needs to be in your home country.
Lenny literally grew up between these last two videos. Such a big boy now and Darwin wobbling along. So to your question Riley. I'm white born and raised in Canada and my husband is black, born and raised in Kenya. When I was there recently I had a dress made for me from traditional fabric. It's not often that I have an opportunity to wear it back home but when I do I feel like I'm representing a culture that I love personally and because it is half of our children's DNA. Some would say I shouldn't wear it. I think we're pretty close on that sliding scale. You too are representing a community a culture with, as you said, love, appreciation and respect. When in doubt, ask the locals. :)
It really feels like you guys have mastered your profession. When it comes to making quality content, I feel this is on par with some of the best video producers out there. Though a completely different scope of focus, the quality and flow reminds me of MKBHD.
You have chosen a beautiful island to call your home base. I have been visiting their for 35 years. Both Seminyak & Canngu were still palm trees and Bali bush. The people are beautiful, the food variety and quality has never been better and always always respect the locals and give back wherever you can. #BaliLove
Brilliant cliffhanger!
I love your content. Keep the thumbnail. I think showing appreciation for local culture and customs as a foreigner is showing respect.
PS, Melly clearly has "kid reactions" she reached for that milk before Lenny even thought of knocking it down :-)
Jip dit het my ook opgeval. Sy gaan ñ GROOT wenner wees vir die pad vorentoe. Beslis vir die lang termyn. 🤝🤣🤠🇿🇦
I’m so excited you guys are having Bali as your home base, it feels like a second home to us as well. Where ever you end up there you can’t go wrong and will soon be immersed in a culture that is both spiritual and community minded. Happy days for you ahead, both with this venture and your trimaran 😊
Omg! Cliffhanger ending!! And Lenny's face 😅 It's been quiet a journey with you guys coming up with this goal and fighting your way to achieve it despite everything. Well done and congratulations!
From what I've seen, most people are extremely happy to share their cultures and have you adopt elements of them.
The next time to go to Bali you should definitely go to Amed. It is a 4 hour drive from the airport (Denpasar) but it’s so beautiful. The biggest volcano in Bali is there and they have the prettiest mountains, it looks like something out of Jurassic park. The water is amazing and perfect for snorkelling. We stayed at life in Amed and it was great. It’s not a touristy place and there are many villages on the way. It’s beautiful altogether and I highly recommend🤍🤍
Imitation is a high form of flattery. Celebrating another culture other than your own is a sign of respect. Greatly satisfying and tremendously safe travels to you and your family. The stupid behavior of a ‘goose frat boy’ should not be the scale on which to measure appropriation, yet it can be a scale to measure education. Bigotry and hatred are learned responses to differences in all humans (who literally are 99.98% identical at the cellular level). I love this vlog! Happy Christmas!
What a beautiful soul is Melly! You guys rock, the best is yet to come!🤗😘
I've really been looking forward to these SE Asia videos! Can't wait to see the boat come together!
I don't see anything wrong with the hats, but I'm also not the type of person who would take offense to such things.
I think it's great your implementing swimming lessons and school that is all part of being a child and learning and growing
I love how Elayna sings and plays and changes the lyrics of the songs ! just perfect! it is nice to watch you play guitar Elayna!!! I can't wait to explore more of Bali with you!
Love the aesthetic coffee making
Personally, I love learning and embracing other cultures. I’ve always enjoyed your videos and love “traveling” through you all!
Bali is such an incredible place to live. Happy you get to spend time there!!!
I got my wife watching your videos and we love you guys! The boys are such cute guys and we love their personalities. Can’t wait to see the new boat, we loved the old one but think this trimaran will be awesome!
I personally believe the thumbnail is perfect. Respect is key with everything and I always feel you are always respectful...so all good✌️💜
I'm beyond happy for you all so excited to share in your new adventure as for the boys lost my heart to them long time ago I just hope I get to see them grow up . Love respects from cold wet London
I have a half Asian daughter and 2 grandsons who are also Asian. I think the hats are beautiful and necessary for the climate. I think embracing other cultures with love and respect are key. Bali is one of my bucket list dream adventures! I loved all of the great insights! Have safe and happy travels and enjoy your Holiday season! We are getting lot's of snow in 2 days! It's very nice to enjoy tropical views as I bundle up! LOL 🌴🌺☃️❄☃️🌺🌴🎄🎅🎉
You guys are such unique individuals epically the insight Elayna has to share. Good for you guys!
Can’t wait for the new boat. Have a great Christmas kids. No issue with the culture stuff. The Balinese will have no issue either.
I want a still photo of the look on Lenny’s face at the end with the white palm after touching the hull.
Great to hear Elayna sing and play. Great job on that original piece… wish you did more.
My son has lived in Thailand for the past 15 years .. when I go to visit I really appreciate their culture and find the people so kind and accepting of other cultures… He has been married for 23 years to my beautiful Thai daughter in law, and they have a beautiful son who is now 7 years old… who speaks 4 languages and is so adorable and smart..
I can’t wait to go back to visit.. I’m from Annapolis Maryland USA… I really enjoy watching your channel and can’t wait to see your new vessel… and watch as your children have many wonderful adventures… you as a family are making such amazing memories… take care and I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas 🎄🎁♥️
Poor Lenny :( He probably caught the sickness in the planes - they are the worst for that. Hope he feels better soon! Question: Does he have pumps? My daughter was a bit like Lenny and her doctor prescribed two kinds of pumps (one blue and one orange) and it saved her many times. The blue one opens the bronchi, wait 5 minutes and give the orange pumps (which is the medication). It was magical! I'm sure you have medication that helps him
I’ve never heard of pumps Caroline, but I’ll Google it ❤. He has prednisone which has been incredible for him!! Without that it would have been a bit of a scary situation..
@@SailingLaVagabonde Maybe get a portable nebuliser with mask too? There’s ones that are powered via USB so it wouldn’t use much power & wouldn’t matter where you are. It’s easy to get the nebules of prednisone, ventolin or atrovent (for example) prescribed worldwide to help with Lenny’s breathing. And even use as a preventative.
@@SailingLaVagabonde Yes, prednisone is very powerful. Your doctor must know best! My daughter uses asthma pumps. The really help her when she get a respiratory sickness and she coughs and coughs and coughs. It's really helps her fix it. Much love
I just wanna shout you two out as amazing parents…. Honestly it kind of makes me sick that families who are “vlogging together” ALWAYS share that and use their kids injuries as thumbnails, and just ewwww 🤮
I love how you handled that, just quickly explained what y’all were up to that day instead of filming…. I have so much respect for you both! Your boys are so lucky! ❤
Can’t wait to watch them grow up on the new TRI!!! ❤
Also you don’t even ever need to explain it either, I just thought the way you did share it was presented in a classier, more private way, for Lenny’s sake ❤😊
Bravo Elena Riley Lanny and Darwin, terrific episode and so many variations. There are so many different kind of cultures all over the world but we humans all have the same basic needs and giving and respect are a top priority! What a beautiful place, Bali.
Love how Lenny clearly knew what he was expressing when he asked/said "that's our boat" and reached out to touch it. ❤Sweet.
It’s been like 2 years since I watched your videos and so much has changed. Feels like I’ve missed so much! 😯😯😯
I can’t believe I have to wait another week to see the boat 😊. You guys are always so respectful of All that is surrounding you. Thank you for taking me along on your adventures.
That indicates good editing to get you to come back for the next episode. Can't remember the term for that🤔.
I think you’ve made very respectful decisions regarding culture appropriation and not just in Bali, I remember a an episode of you talking about Bahamas (I think) and even though you explained there were rough areas as such that everywhere has places with not the most stand up people. When it comes to outfits, the language you use and the information you learn about the places to make accurate statement and give us all a little bit more insight I personally think you all do an amazing job. After watching you and keeping up with you every week I think it’s safe to say that both of you are doing your best to show all of your viewers a look at an alternative lifestyle and without showing the things that could be classed as cultural appropriation but the way you do it is definitely just a respectful way of enjoying, experiencing and sharing in other country and religions cultures 😂 also just to add, your boys are so lucky to have you both! You spoil them with adventure and in this day and age that is usually looked over compared to an iPad or something expensive to buy
As a Native American, cultural appropriation has done immeasurable damage to my people, even by the most well meaning.
With that said, the only people that should be asked whether or not this is or isn’t cultural appropriation are the people from that particular culture. No one else’s opinions matter.
Thank you for your concern and thank you, Riley, for reading every comment.
Elayna is such a champ! My My mom was a military spouse and she had to get us across the ocean so many times. I don’t know how she did it!
Exactly, this is what i have posted as well.
I have no ties with the Asian culture so it isn't up to me to say whether this is cultural appropriation or not, neither should anyone who doesn't have any ties with the Asian culture.
We have no clue, even though a lot of people seem to think they do.
@@rdk7010 Yeah nobody cares but americans. So if youre in another country then do your thing. they dont care
agreed fellow native person here. the difference between wearing something sacred or ceremonial like a headdress has literally nothing to do with wearing a common hat, hairstyle, etc. of another culture. I don't think you can even compare the two.
Agree !
Love how you’ve switched up the shots and filming angles. Great experimentation.
Lenny's expression at the end is precious. Smart boy knows that is not supposed to happen.
Elaynas happy dance always makes me laugh with smiles
Thank you for singing again Elayna! You are simply awesome! About the cultural appropriation question, I think if wearing local garb, especially that which is marketed specifically to tourists is done with respectful intentions, any unintended misstep can be easily forgiven. I think the thumbnail is fine as is. If you went to Disneyland and bought the mouse ears and took a picture would that be cultural appropriation? Not in my view. I think you are both legends as you are. Cheers!
Spot on! Hilarious
My wife and I have been toying with the idea of doing an extended trip to Bali with our kids. We have two boys pretty much the same age as Lenny and Darwin. Seeing how much you guys enjoyed it really pushes me to want to set up a trip there ASAP. Can't wait for the upcoming adventures ya'll have planned. Much love.
You should definitely make the trip guys. It’s paradise, really 🥲 and super kid friendly, so many fun things to do! (Just obviously keep them far far away from the crazy roads lol)
We have flown a bunch of time across the pond with our kids (ages 4 and 2 currently) and the key is buying them a seat and bringing a car seat to keep them contained.
I think the intent and being respectful is most important
I’m so happy to see you finally made it to Vietnam. You all look great. Wokeness, sucks!😂 as far as the thumbnail, it’s perfect! You are not appropriating culture, your simply being a family in a foreign land. And yes, there is a scale because some people may take it to far one way or the other. Let’s just all be happy and enjoy life for what it is! An adventure!😂Adventure on Vagabond family!❤
Cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation both exist and the distinction is like Riley mentioned, RESPECT. When care and respect are applied you are giving credit to the people and the culture they've created and been born into, that's cultural apppreciation. I'm not southeast Asian so in this case specifically I can't give proper advice but I hope southeast Asian people watching your channel can give you the council you're seeking. 💛💛💛
Cultural appreciation is about respect, cultural appropriation and video blogging is more about you and the meeting with the culture. As long as the respect is there, the rest is all about you and how perceive and feel that culture.
@@GustafB agreed, and can really only be determined by the groups directly affected because different cultures have different sensitivities that may have deeper roots connected to those cultural ties
Loved the episode as usual. Great content. Lenny’s “oh snap” face when he got white paint on his hand, was hysterical.
I am born and raised in Mexico by a French mother and unless you are obviously disrespecting my culture, you won’t hear a peep out of me. Dressing or looking like someone from a different culture, for the most part, means you like the look and want to copy it for yourself and that’s great. Don’t get me started on the whole ridiculous wokeness topic.
The shot of Lenny's face at the end after he touched the boat...priceless.
Well done all of you, wow what a trip, all the years I have followed you, I have a grate deal of respect for the way that you both just fit in to the culture that you are in, love the thumb nail, it’s very appropriate, and because you both love people you respect them, good on ya mate well done for everything your doing cheers,
Thank y’all for sharing your lives, including all of the hard parts. Of course it seems super glamorous when you only get a glimpse but it’s actually more expansive and encouraging to see the low parts too. Congratulations on your new journey! As some one who comes from many cultural backgrounds I’d say it means a lot when other people engage and admire and learn about the many things that make different cultures so special. But besides just blatantly disrespecting cultures, I’d say another harmful thing is when people take on those cultures and use them for their own financial gain and never give credit to or barely mention the origins.
I generally believe that the political correctness movement has gone too far in regards of cultural appropriation, the exchange , sharing , and merging different aspects of culture such as clothing , music , foods , hairstyles is in my opinion one of the most beautiful things of humanity , and it makes us human . We should it embrace it instead of cancelling people for it
I find typically the people who are most offended by cultural appropriation, are not even people of that culture and more often are just trying to be woke! I'm not some red pill chad, nor a woke culture advocate. I just sit in the middle. Do what you feel is correct and that's all that counts, we all know the last thing you are trying to do is make fun of a culture or mock it! Enjoy it and embrace it! thanks for the video! Making me miss Manila PH!
My parents built a house when I was three. Point out to Lenny that ten years from now he will remember what the boat looks like with no paint. 60 years from now he will still remember the hidden details of that hull. I have a small bench built by the carpenters that built the house, I got to drive some of the nails. Even if you sell that boat in 10 years, Lenny will remember it forever!!!
I built my nine meter trimaran twenty years ago, and have been sailing it all over the globe ever since. I have one piece of advise to offer.. If you can have a kick up rudder installed, do that. Will save you ten tons of trouble.
