I KNOW YOUR NAME IS COMMON IN SWEDEN...BUT, THAT WAS THE NAME OF MY 2XG-GRANDFATHER - THEY LIVED IN NARKE...NEAR THE LAKE VATTERN...I LIVE IN VANCOUVER, CANADA...GOD BLESS ;)
Thank you, Dusko, for sharing the best Larry Carlton recording ever----Michael Brecker, B.B. King, Jeff Porcaro, Jerry Hey and the great horn charts of Don Piestrup. Hard to believe this is over 30 years old! Great music remains great forever.
King sur "Blues For T.J." (3) !
Seen him in Concord Pavillon when this was first released .The whole concert sounded exactly like the album but better cause it was live of course ,Blew My Mind Away 🇺🇸✌🏾🌈
The only guitarist I have ever heard (on earth ?) who is abled to play such "edgy" notes with such .... accuracy. With all my greatest respect to other guitarists.
EXACTLY! That's what has amazed me since I first listened to Larry! 36 years ago, I first heard Larrys song, Midnight Parade from his "STRIKES TWICE" solo album, and................... BAM!!!!!!!!!
Ah yes Sonny even if high string bending may not be to the taste of many people we have to consider the perfection of Larry's play when comes the time to put thoses notes. I also like the way Larry alternates the use of high and lower strings..which brings so much harmony in his songs.
Yes! Also, remember,, that Larry is constantly sliding into, and out from target notes ...... and many times he's sliding into a note, and immediately bending that string up to the PERFECT pitch higher,, and using beautiful vibrato and then sliding out and away from that last note! String bending, sliding, vibrato, all of which makes up Mr. 335's style! Thank you ..... ~Larry Carl-Tone~ .............~!~
Je n'ai pas les mots pour décrire à quel point je suis admiratif de Larry Carlton. Cet album est juste fantastique ! C'est en écoutant des artistes comme eux que l'on trouve la détermination de toujours plus travailler son instrument... Merci du poste;)
Such a delight hearing this wonderful album again after so much time - when it came out I listened to it so intensely...! I absolutely love it - to me it remains a masterpiece in composing, arranging, playing and almost everything! A reference! Thank you Larry for all this wonderful playing and inspiration during all these years!
I've seen Larry a few times over the years including just before the shutdown, and, he doesn't do anything from this album anymore 😥 "Too much production..." He says.🤷♂️ I did get to see him do "South Town" (one of my favorites!!!🤩❤💖) years ago, when Carlos Vega was the drummer. 😊

beautiful music, i listened to larry Carlton thanks to Michael Frank . the album "art of tea" i realized the guitar was tremendous.. so instantly i began to search about this wonderful guitar player ,, then i bought some vinyls ,, and turned a big fan .. yeah ,,
Love this album! Takes me back to my sophomore year in college......I would go home for break and my father would play this album at least once a day. My favorite was always "Breaking Ground", his favorite was "South town". Thanks for posting Dusko! God bless!
The first album by Larry that i bought ! Just reading the credits on the back of the sleeve was enough to know this was gonna be good! The best musicians !Great cover of tequila featuring Al jarreau and Mike Brecker ! Great percussion by paulinho da costa!
We had listened to it and so we did on and on ... but we were boys. And now? We are still charmed due to the unreachable mastery. A little 'sadness: we did not make it to play like that but, of course, this is just to laugh..still so great dear Larry and a true gentleman indeed
I’ve got only three things to say about this beautiful blast from the past - Tequila, tequila.......TEQUILA! ..........surely one of the heaviest grooves ever recorded?
I love "Breaking Ground" too! Jeff Porcaro's dad, L.A. studio legend Joe Porcaro, played the timpani. When I had lunch with Papa Joe a few years ago, he remembered the session and the note he tuned the timpani to! 😲😊
@@andrewscher239 Thank you Andrew! What I'd really like to know is, how does Larry conceive such musical devices first, in it's primary beginnings,, and then to create the master works,,, and yes, they ARE master works! This entire album is so above most any/everything that was being put out back in 1983! Of course no disrespect to the other jazz/fusion greats! But till this day,, since before 1980 when he released his "Strikes Twice" album, I get the shivers every time I hear his lead guitar work! ~Larry Carl-Tone~ ................... he ~~delivers-the-shivers~~ !!!! Dayuuuuum!!!! Larry Carlton just crushes it!!! Some absolutely fine smooth jazz/ fusion with just enough funkiness to keep your toes tapping! Think Larry is one of the great west coast session musician alumnus isn't he?
Yeah he is a solid session player. Seen him in concert many times. At one show in San Diego's Humpreys in the 80's , he had, then popular, actor Jan- Michael Vincent and his dog, on stage to sing a song with him. Larry played on many movie soundtracks , television themes. For instance, when you listen to a TV show like Starsky and Hutch, or Beretta, The A-Team, or Wise Guy. Steven J. Cannell shows. You are hearing Larry Carlton doing many of the guitar licks throughout the show- the theme music. And of course, Larry Carlton played guitar for the Crusaders and many of Steely Dan's records.Becker and Fagan known to hire the BEST sidemen in the business to get the sound they like. Listen to intro on "Dont Take Me Alive" for a tasty L.C. solo. Superb ! But PLEASE dont call his music "smooth jazz" as that genre of "music" is one step above elevator muzak, at best. Larry's peers are Steve Khan, Lee Ritenour, Eric Gale, Robben Ford, Steve Lukather and others too many to mention. But NOT Kenny G. and the Rippingtons. That smooth jazz crap KILLED fusion.
Breaking grounds,South town,Song in the 5th grade , Cruisin, LA New York were master pieces in arrangement ,composition,Larry Carlton blend jazz blues ,fusion rhythm harmony..his solos are very melodic using altered notes to give the flavor of fusion ..Those recordings are the best ever done by Larry Carlton.until he went to smooth jazz..dont forget Terry Trotter ,keyboard .piano player he and L Carlton has been playing together for almost 50 years

Interesting that somewhere I read a description of LC that identified him as a "rock" artist? I never really thought of him that way at all. Always thought he was more clearly a Jazz or Jazz/Fusion guy with some blues influence. Is it just me?
I was a teenager in 1993 when I first bought and listened to his music: Anthem from Renegade Gentlemen, I was blown away and have been a fan ever since.
Could somebody PLEASE, upload this album in HQ audio. Although a great performance by LC, this upload has really poor sound quality, it's all mid range and too peaky/scratchy sounding. It doesn't do LC justice !!
almost 40 years old album and still so amazingly interesting.

The smoothest lead guitarist I have heard..I salute with high flying colors..
The kind of music that makes you forget about everything that is bad in the world...
Song in the 5th grade.. wow! LA, NY.. the whole album!

RIP Jeff Porcaro, Michael Brecker, BB King...

¿Quienes son los músicos que lo acompañan? ¿como puede ser que no aparezca un dato tan basico?
