WeeLC is unironically one of my favourite matches to take place at Extreme Rules, some of the spots are insane considering it was a pre-show match.
I credit it almost entirely to Mascarita Dorada (El Torito), one of the best minis in history. Which makes it particularly frustrating that in all the years he worked for WWE they only booked him in one semi-serious match.
Ah, Adam's lists. The highest point of every Sunday. The thing I most look forward to each weekend. Thanks, Adam.
Perfectly listed, and to think that there are still some amazing matches that were left out goes to show about the match quality this PPV brings out:
- Wee-LC in 2014
- The Hardys vs The Bar in 2017
- Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre vs Roman Reigns and The Undertaker in 2019 (Underrated classic)
- John Cena vs The Miz vs John Morrison in 2011
- Punk vs Jericho in 2012
Surprise Punk vs Jericho wasn’t there and they should’ve gave an honorable mention at least to Wee-LC, that match is so iconic and fun
There’s a lot of stuff from 2019 that get overlooked honestly. Shane & Drew/Roman & Taker, the Lacey & Corbin/Becky & Seth main event, Aleister Black/Cesaro, Strowman/Lashley Last Man Standing, there was even a FTR/Usos match on there.
Wee-LC is unironically one of my favourite matches of all time, just because I consider it THE gold standard in wrestling's ability to take an idea that's stupid, inane, ridiculous and in this case borderline offensive, and make it awesomely entertaining thanks to the talents of the wrestlers involved. Yes, it's still a comedy match, but it's so much more than just "ha ha ha midgets!" like Vince intended. That Doomsday Device Jinder took off the apron was _apocalyptic._
Shane and Drew vs Taker and Roman wtf lol, I can recite Tugboat promos from 1991 but I can't remember this tag match
Jeff vs Edge was such a fun match, Tbf all their matches were great. The build up and the fact that sick puppies you're going down was the song of that show made this even more special to me.
Sick Puppies was and is still the best theme song for Extreme Rules when it came first in 2009.
I think CM Punk vs Chris Jericho in 2012 should've made this list.
The Big 3 Matches in 2012, made Extreme Rules 2012 one of WWE's best PPVs of the Decade
Punk vs Jericho Chicago Street Fight from 2012 is an underrated banger. That whole ppv ruled, the two matches that made this list and a really fun falls count anywhere opener with Orton and Kane featuring Zack Ryder interference
I was at Extreme Rules 2014. That SHIELD/Evolution match was absolutely killer. At one point seeing them disappear into the crowd and glancing a few sections to our left and seeing bodies flying around was pretty extr- it was pretty ext- it was pretty ext...raordinary. heh.
I know most don’t count it since it isn’t in the “Extreme Rules” show canon, but you could throw on a lot of matches from 2008’s One Night Stand on here.
Jeff Hardy/Umaga, Edge/Undertaker, Melina/Beth Phoenix just to name a few.
2007 even has a Hardy Boyz/World’s Greatest Tag Team Ladder match on it as well.
One thing you left out about the AJ/Roman match is that the post match saw the return of Seth Rollins after his ACL tear.
Yep, the pop he got was HUGE.
Extreme Rules 2012 had three top tier matches.
I don't know about Vince, but that match made AJ the man in my eyes.
At the next ppv AJ defeated john Cena as his first wwe ppv win I think that answers your question
That extreme rules match between John Cena and brock was one of the reasons that made me watch wwe regularly. I might gave started watching wwe after this.
I can’t be the only one who thinks Punk-Jericho in 2012 is ridiculously underrated
I always really loved the last man standing match between braun strowman and bobby lashley at extreme rules 2019. The final moment where braun breaks down the wall as the ref counts 10 is bloody amazing.
Extreme Rules had great and terrible matches, but it can't be denied most of them are talked about even in the 2022. Roman Reigns with the Usos vs A.J Styles with the Good Brothers was fantastic and the Fatal 5 Way in 2017 is the perfect chaos with unpredictability. And The Shield vs Evolution...enough said.
Assuming I'm not the only one who wondered why Adam has beef with Del Rio, a quick google shows it's probably at least in part to him no-showing two WCPW events because he was busy getting drunk with Saraya.

As a younger WWE fan, 2016 was the best year in the era since I started watching, That Extreme Rules PPV ruled.
It was a great time for me to get back in. There's a whole lot to really like about 2016, particularly SmackDown when the brand split got fully in the rhythm.
2016 was a good year in general for WWE, especially once the brand split kicked in; List of Jericho is still my favourite version of Jericho
People always forgot the Bryan/Sheamus Mania match was just an angle in their feud and that the Extreme Rules match was the payoff. Glad to see that 2 out of 3 falls match get its flowers.
Matches like this prove that while WWE did go PG and tone things down, their Extremeness wasn't completely locked away

Both matches styles and roman had were brilliant, personally it was the first time I enjoyed a roman match I really hope they run that feud again since romanis champion and aj can still work a phenomenal match

Completely fine with the Top 2 being the 2016 MOTY-candidate matches in the IC Title 4-Way and Roman/AJ
But darn this year will have some serious competition for those two with matches like Riddle/Seth in Fight Pit or Imperium/Brawling Brutes
Don't forget about Balor vs Edge. Could very well be the showstopper of all showstoppers.
Belair/Bayley could also be a sleeper hit as well; this year's Extreme Rules is looking to be another good card!
Honourable mention big show vs roman reigns in a last man standing match 2015 . Oddly brilliant
It was a miracle honestly, I don't think I'd go so far as brilliant but considering how slow Big Show was and how much he was sweating that match had no right being as good as it was.

I was at the Smackdown where Christian lost the title to Orton. Wow, I really never expected that to happen and got to watch a championship change hands. Pretty cool.

I don't know exactly where I'd put it, but CM Punk vs Chris Jericho at Extreme Rules 2012 was the best match that those two bests in the world ever had.
Extreme Rules 2009 to me as a whole is an underrated ppv, that Extreme Rules and 2012 lived up to the name of the ppv
The Extreme Rules matches that simply have the most blood won't do. Creative spots, intense moments made all the better with weapons and how these matches impacted rivalries are big factors too.
The highlight of my weekend is hearing my dads voice even tho I have a playlist with all of his vids

The wee TLC match between Hornswoggle and el torrito should have been number 1. I was there live and it was the match I remembered most of the show
That 6 man tag match at Extreme Rules 2014 between the Shield and Evolution was one hell of a freaking banger and I've always loved that spot where Batista got basically wrecked by the Shield at the end 😂😅

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one that likes Sheamus's WHC run, also Taker's biker gimmick.
The problem with Sheamus's reign was his neverending feud with Del Rio.
Seriously I still don't remember any other opponent after Daniel Bryan before the loss against Big Show.
@@thediamondcutter9185 Yeah, I see your point, but I don't remember there being many legitimate heels on the roster back then, so they had to book Del Rio a lot, he had the most heel heat back then I guess.
I think that's one of the reasons they had to turn Bryan heel.

I mean, tbf it wasn't AWFUL. He had a great match with Daniel Bryan at Extreme Rules, a good match with the Big Show at Hell in a Cell, and a decent Fatal Four Way against Jericho, Orton, and Del Rio at Over the Limit. The big problem was that he was in an endless feud with Alberto Del Rio for the majority of the title reign from around May to September, and they never really had a good match together during that time.
@@aidanator8008 agreed, I hated how Del Rio got rematch after rematch, from 2011-2013 he was Roman Reigns levels of overpushed

First off, I forgot that rowan and Bryan were ever even champions let alone that that match existed.
Second, while I am upset they undid that great win for Christian, randy beating him on SD is my first definitive memory of watching wrestling so I'll always hold it in high regard anyway.
Lastly, that dude in the punk shirt top right at 9:19 is how we all felt when cena won that match
I think the shield evolution match was my favorite
This just goes to show that if WWE can care about their tag division then there can be some amazing bangers on the match card
Roman Reigns vs Big Show tables match in ER 2015 was fantastic too.
*Re: No.10* - If I recall correctly from one of Jericho's podcasts years ago, both he and Rey Mysterio had to fight to get that finish into the match. According to Jericho, Vince McMahon told them they couldn't do it because he thought it was physically impossible. However, when Jericho and Mysterio proved otherwise during rehearsals for the match, he gave them the all-clear to do the finish.

More adams list, Lets do this! And To me 2012 ER is probably the most memorable one, I know it's kind of forgotten for some people but Brock vs Cena was very solid match until the ending... John cena just cutting a promo after he is busted open.. Like Wha- ? Lol.
I personally consider Extreme Rules and One Night Stand to have the same lineage, so I am surprised RVD/Cena, Awesome/Tanaka, and Benoit/Jericho are not on the list.
However, I can see why, and don't blame you for making this exclusively an "Extreme Rules PPV" list.
I dunno about you guys, but I genuinely like Big Show vs Roman Reigns' Last Man Standing Match in 2015's Extreme Rules. Sure Roman was just jeered all year round but every body I know who was watching actually really had fun with the match. Roman didn't feel so bland to watch as he's trying use everything in his power and rach to bring down Show and we actually got some comedy in between(Show on the top rope and the moment Show reads JBL's notepad while clearing the table). Though not an immortal match by any means, it was surprisingly good and warmed me and I can safely say some others to Reigns as a performer. It only helped RR that he got to face AJ a year later.
Adam openly insults Alberto Del Rio (with good reason) but he has worked with the guy in the past.

To this day I maintain that 2012 extreme rules Cena vs. Brock was expertly booked given the circumstances. You can’t have the face you committed to the last decade undercut by two returning stars that left and made you pick Cena as the guy back to back. You can’t tell your audience the last decade means F all. It’s not fair to Cena or all the talent that helped make Cena.

the whole point of Brock Lesnar vs John Cena is to have Cena get a win after losing to the Rock not having another PPV lost at the next PPV, it's a reverse The Rock vs Goldberg, where Rock defeated Steve Austin, then Goldberg defeated The Rock at Payback
