77 year old from Australia, though back in the 1950s I was still living in Britain. And yes, we developed our own routines from Jive, Jitterbug and whatever else came along. Arthur Murray Studios started losing big money because few people were interested in learning the waltz, foxtrot etc, so he introduced the one-two-rockback routine. To this day new people believe you need his steps before you can rock 'n' roll. I still teach rock 'n' roll and I tell everyone to forget it. Concentrate on feeling the rhythm just go with the flow. Like we did in the 1950s.
YOU GUYS & GALS KNOW HOW MUCH I LOVE DANCING!!!!! THIS VIDEO IS RIGHT DOWN MY LINE!!! I LOVE MUSIC & DANCING. MUSIC REALLY LIFTS MY SPIRIT!!!!! TONEY M
During WW2, our city was heaving with US G.I's and airmen at the weekends. My mum told me she and her friends would Jitterbug at the local dance halls, and no, my dad isn't American ! Fantastic times !!
As a 75 year old Swing Dancer, I encourage you to get out on the floor and learn to dance this way, it is tons of fun and will keep you young and fit for life!!
In the early 1950's we teens took some of the moves from Jive Dancing and the Jitterbug and adopted them into the Bebop, which mainly was a bit slower, as Boogie Woogie is 6 X 6 Beat, and OTR&R is 4 X 4 Beat. and we didnt do much throwing or dipping of partners either, but, if you were good enough most dancers would clear a space on the sock hop floor and let me and my gal, now my wife, go at it!! I can still do all the moves at 76, just only once though, for every go round. This dancing routine will keep you young at heart and soul, and fit too!!
prebooomer we meet again! Everything is as you say. Throwing your partner involved in dare I say the weight of her! We can still dance a bit though. Ain't memories wonderful.
@@colinbryan8903 Hello Again. My wife weighed only 131 pounds, back in the day, I was 253 and very strong, as a farm boy I could buck 175 pound bales of hay with ease, so my wife was quite easy to do all the moves with, and she was a good dancer in her own right, had the moves and locations down pat. One thing most people do not realize about Swing Dancing is that you have to know exactly where your partner is at all times on the dance floor, and what she is doing. Miss a hand while doing these routines will get you seriously hurt!!
Prebloomer, it was so good to read your statement. I am 77, 2 more years over you, and I first heard R & R in 1954, at age 13, in the back seat my dad's 1954 Chevrolet, on our way back home in Hinton, Oklahoma, from Chickashas at my grandmother's, when, Dad was scanning the dial on the radio, as I set in the back seat, leaning over the front seat to hear what he would finally come up with, like "The Shadow Knows," or "Amos and Andy," or whatever stupid radio show put out, I yelled 'Stop,' as he briefly paused on a station with a new song I had never heard, but more that that was a new sound that grabbed my very soul. "Dad, please go back to that station," which he politely did, thank God, for my life changed, once again, that night, with that song, "Rock Around the Clock," by non other than Bill Haley and the Comets, whom I had never heard before. I was never the same again. I could go on for hours, but I stop here for the night. Again, thanks for your remarks. BobSims2018@GMail.com Love to hear from you.
man o man,, jitter bug, lindy dance,,, what ever its called i soooooooooo wanna learn and dance this way,, dug it since i was little and still do to this day,, love it
They are a great group, love their interpretation of early American Rock and Roll! Which now belongs to the whole World, and is played by talented singers and bands from all over the Planet, keeping the Sacred Music alive, may it never die!!
Sweet to see the evolution of the Lindy Hop/Jitterbug contemporaneously taken to a new, high resolution level with a much greater pixel density down by the feets where hells a'poppin
Yes they are. You cannot do this kind of dancing without knowing your partners exact moves and when they are employed. My wife and I have danced this way for 45 years, and cannot do hardly any of the moves with another partner!!
I was in Weymouth Pavillion back in the early seventies. rock and rolling the night away with a chick, I was gone man given it my all when the dancing stopped the music went quiet and stood next to me was a well-known DJ. he said I have been calling you for ten minutes. you have won tonights best dancer. and presented me with 5 LP`s of classical music. that's the one and only time I won. Lol.
What would you rather listen to? a song full of energy like boogie woogie. or the shite they call music today where you have to be brain dead to appreciate it. LONG LIVE ROCK AND ROLL!!!!!!
try these songs when you havent clean your apartment for a month .. and you decide to do it now.. corner to corner 8 hours work.. yeah baby.. dancing at the same time!!!
The music is great!! the dancing is even greater!!! but, they do not go together, the dancers are doing the Lindy Hop which is a 6 x 6 beat, the music is OTR&R which is a 4 X 4 beat and is a bit too slow for this type of dance. which, is why they appear out of sync with the music at times!!
@@prebooomer The later upcoming dancers are dancing at RTSF Collegiate Shag-Show dance from 2013, but the underlying music here is boogie. That doesn't go together! Here is the original video with the corresponding music: ua-cam.com/video/uUGsLoZYXb4/v-deo.html

Love the song. Upset that at 0:46 that dude walked in front of the camera as the girl was doing a fantastic move, he ruined it, it's on film forever. She is prob crushed.

I had to come out of this video, tears of joy clouded my 79 year old eyes, as was said of swing music, sheer pleasure.
This was written by the Lennerockers, which proves OTR&R is still alive and well! thanks guys!! for keepin it alive!!!
Замечательно сделали буги-вуги! Настроение выше крыши! Спасибо!
I lived the American dream and had my fair share of boogie woogie queens, and loved them all.
James Prince you probably had my share as well😋
Saw the Lennerockers at Birchwood in Lancashire a few years ago at a new year dance and they were brill, never stopped dancing!!
Wow, those swing couples were terrific.
You gotta love these guys. It is hard to sit still when they are playing.
Fantastico! Great dancing. Don't see that anymore. Thanks for posting.

Bellissimo!!!!Grazie infinite per averlo condiviso!!!!Un bacione grosso grosso carissimo Gianfreddi!
This is unbelievable!! Fantastic!
The words to this are profound and actually touching. Oh, to be able to dance to this!! "Thin is the line between pleasure and pain."
If you were not tapping your feet to this you have a serious problem! Awesome!
Waste of time resisting this vibe .... and there it is 😊
Great stompin' tune & fantastic videos! Thanks!
I'm glad you liked it. Greetings from Italy. Ciao.

Even some New Orleans slide steps done in this by the two Shag Dancers towards the end.
this was big in school in early 60s cant get enough
...mi sbagliero', ma un ballo piu' gioioso del Boogie non esiste ancora...
Просто кайф. Ноги, сцена, композиция.. И просто любил вот так улетать балдя за кулисами. Потом паркет плавил.
If I could dance like that! Und wunderbar to our German brothers for the tunes.
