Southside is right- the sample clearing is the artists labels responsibility, not the producers. 🙌🤝🏽

@@djkin5501if the label is putting the song out it’s on them. The label is the one that has to pay the artist the producer and the sample makers. If a producer has to clear the sample then he better get a better advance and contract

The labels are buying out the master. So they clear the sample and charge the producer’s account (to recoup the sample costs). If the labels were giving us equity in the master, then it would be different.

I agree. The label should take the bill when it comes to clearing samples, before the songs drop. It’s just business.
You can get a decent cost to clear the sample before the music releases, but once you risk clearing it after the song drops, the estate of who owns the sample will run your pockets when they find out the song has been doing CRAZY numbers 📈

The producer has to clear the sample to legally sell the beat.
The artist has to clear the sample to legally release the song.
The label has to clear the sample to legally distribute the song.
All 3 have to clear the sample....
Now does it happen like that no...and that's why niggas wonder why they have to pay triple or more then they can afford.

I wonder how sampling was handled during the rise of hip hop, cause that's all they did. That's literally what hip hop is lol. So it's weird seeing people say " everyone uses loops" when you chop up a sample, you creating a loop. I guess the process between going to a loop site or getting a nice song and chopping it up, is diff

how does it? all you're doing is asking for permission to distribute this song for revenue using a sample. It all comes down to how much of the sample you use, how it's use, how the copyright owner feels about it. But you've never had someone use your stuff to make millions so you wouldn't get it.
