Someone take pictures and video now of the area’s condition so we can compare it to a year or two in the future so we can see what happens when it is turned over to public use with the trash, damage, abandoned cars and homeless. Everyone remembers what happened at Bellows when the military had to take it back after the land and beaches were destroyed the public.
To everyone complaining about the plans for the area and saying there should be affordable housing built.. the area is not zoned for residential so they can’t build homes there. Legally the “state” is supposed to keep an equal amount of land distributed as residential, industrial, agriculture etc. You can’t just build homes wherever you want, whenever you want, you can only build homes in residential zones. They could rezone the area to make it residential, but if they do that they’re supposed to rezone an existing residential zone to industrial etc. So in other words, imagine it’s a pie cut up into 4 pieces… one piece is residential, one is industrial, one is business and one is agriculture… they have to make sure that all slices are always the same equal sizes. If they cut a piece of the industrial slice to make it residential, they have to cut off a piece of the residential slice somewhere else and make it industrial, so each slice is always 25% of the whole pie.
The navy should take back barbers and put all of its personal back on the base.that would help lower the housing problem we have.before the navy opened barbers to the public they kept that place nice, now it looks run down and crappy.
I have said this many times to friends and family that when the military owned Barbers point the grass was always green and cut nicely plus the place looked very clean. when the land was returned to the residents there was dumping of trash and the grass got super tall and suspicious people living in the bushes which makes it a sketchy place to camp.
in my state, nj, we used to have loads of racetracks... until people started building too close and complaining about the noise.... from tracks that were there for decades before the houses and residents were.... they going to keep enough space around that racetrack free of housing nearby so there are no complaints?

If you give wide spread access to locals, the bathrooms will be trashed and left unusable, there will be bbq debris and plate lunch boxes not in receptacles and drinking and vaping (if not worse) is assured. AND I’M LOCAL. Limit access.
Did the military own the land. Absolutely not. They have never owned anything in Hawaii to this day. Theft can never be transferred to ownership. People are idiots
Land that the military is on is typically so called “ceded lands” (aka crown lands) or Hawaiian Kingdom government lands, not māhele lands. So no maka’āinana should hold a patent or grant to the lands.
Navy should keep White Plains Beach under their care. The State does a lousy job👎maintaining the upkeep. Take Nimitz beach as an example. Before the Navy gave up Nimitz beach. It was well maintained - always kept clean, bathrooms were functional with running water, and there were NO gates! The MP's did their job. Nimitz beach was one of the best beaches on the West of Oahu for camp or just to hang out. But since the State took over years back. Nimitz beach is literally a dump site. Trash everywhere. Bathrooms are rundown. The roads are wrecked. This proves why Federal does a better job than State. It's sad because you would expect our own State would care to maintain its beauty or does a good job as Federal, but totally opposite. I use to love going to Nimitz beach because it was always clean and the MP's made it feel safe. Now the State got the gates up I mean what for? So for that reason is why I believe the Navy should NOT give White Plains beach. As matter of fact take back Nimitz beach! The State don't deserve it at all🚫

ummmm.....affordable housing is much more important than a racetrack.
There's no such thing as affordable housing in hawaii.
you cant build affordable housing if theres forever chemicals already in the ground
You mean slums
My Porsche says "NEINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!"
Affordable housing right like other places on Oahu, dreaming 😴 about it.
Who is addressing the housing crisis? Follow the money who’s got the contracts? Racing over Housing?
Make housing affordable and prioritize it!!
The only way to make people love their country is to give them a place to call home.
Are they going to move the homeless further west?
Like they've already been doing for years now?

cant zone housing....too close to the airport
Racetrack? How about fixing the potholes, first?
The beach is already public access. The City and County would just let it go to hell...
Why not to the Native Hawaiians ?
They have Waianae Coast

Landback to native hawaiians, show me the annexation papers everything is a lie
They’ll probably lease it, not give it outright. They’d be dumb to sell it.
@@charly3575 it's not considered selling when it didn't belong to them in the first place.
Stolen lands stolen again lol

Create greenways like in Texas. Low maintenance trails that incorporate the existing landscape.

"It smells like sunscreen a lot" means tourists love it there.
haha I was laughing lol waikiki smells like like a chemical sunscreen bay...its so gross
The question is who's kuleana or patented land is it? That's who it belongs to! The Millitary Corporations know this! Come on!
Its the Feds property - everybody knows that.

IMO they should turn Kalaeloa Airport into a second airport to help alleviate the HNL airport.
Racetrack is welcome and wanted
Raceway?
Careful
Why don’t they build farm lands for the natives and locals not things for tourists
The US military is leaving Hawaii?
Yup their lease is up and this is a fake State it really is its not a conspiracy or opinion
Not in a million years
Military beaches smell like sunscreen 😂

NOTHING WILL CHANGE, WILL REMAIN THE SAME FOR THE NEXT 30 YEARS.
No, it will get worse.
What??? We are in a neocon marxist US gov crisis ... kicking us all out of our homes and folks concerned about this???
can we create more affordable housing? 😢
When will people realize affordable is relative to the amount of land available. We live on a damn island not in the middle of a desert like Nevada.
Families need to pass down their land and return to living multi generational homes . Doesn't sound good ? Ok , keep renting and struggling
No!
Lol! Yes sistah! Too much toxic sunscreen users 😂
Race track is going in the wrong direction we need more shelters for the homeless people 😮
Make the track let’s race fuckers !
Racetrack, recreations center?! We need affordable homes that cost under $500000 to $1 Million dollars . !!
No need we need a track it’s been years since 2006 we had a track thank god !
racetrack
racetrack over affordable housing?
Both
Both
